This does not look good at all. This is not a gen upgrade.

However if the multiplayer is as good as Gears 3 at 60 fps......I will be in...

i hope i get my code this monday!

and man im really glad i stuck with a Wii U most of this generation so far, every game on PS4 and Xbox One looks so gorgeus to me and yet there are a lot of people saying they look like garbage!

Can't wait for this. Looks to play just like Gears3. Who can complain, best TPS multiplayer ever. Don't care how it looks whatsoever.

I have a feeling a lot of people saying "it's pre-alpha footage" are gonna be disappointed.

My money is on it looking virtually unchanged in the final product

Yep....that's Gears of War alright.

Looks like gears 3 dlc

Seriously. It's like there was a giant neon sign in the studio with "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I don't care how it looks graphically but this looks exactly like what we played years ago, gameplay wise. I guess some people want that? I dunno, would have hoped it evolved a bit.

Looks great gameplay wise, but graphically looks subpar IMO.

I can't view the video as it's private (how are you guys watching it?), but I'm in the boat that values gameplay/60fps over pretty much all graphical things, so if the gameplay holds up and it's steady 60fps I'm in no matter the graphics (unless they have gone full 8-bit or something lol).

Man do you really think that gears 4 multiplayer is going to look a whole lot shittier then the actually campaign that they have shown. Also no shadows like come on bro

The problem with that statement though is that this is the multiplayer at 60 fps, there was going to be some cutoffs to that level especially with using the unreal 4 engine. However, we know that this is a legit beta, the game will obviously improve in visual quality come launch. Other things we have yet to see the single player running which is 30 fps and will showcase higher visuals being the the target frame rate is half allowing more resources for a better looking game.

So Halo pre-release got absolutely bashed and hated on for evolving its formula.

Gears stays true to its formula and also gets bashed on for doing so.

You can't win. Gears should stay true to its formula. If anything made the game not the cover, bouncing, gnasher fest that it is; it simply wouldn't be Gears.

Give me old school gears MP! This looks awesome, but I get why others would be kinda put off.

Problem is Gears is a lot better when a team is in-synch with one another with players using lancers and grenades to flush other players towards guys with gnashers (one example of the way things work). But people won't get that joy from playing as a lone Wolf.

Looking at Gears:UE I reckon the turnover time for newbies in MP was high, simply because they have groups of gnasher-wall bouncers with communication and are getting owned...

Basically, get a team with headsets and go in, you'll enjoy it a lot more.

If anything the game is getting bashed for not looking particularly graphically impressive, and that's largely down to it being 60fps, which is actually not true to its formula. Gears has traditionally always been a 30fps, graphical powerhouse.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Nah Horde should be 30fps. More Enemies and Eye Candy etc

I agree. They've said that MP is 60 and SP is 30, but I feel like Horde should be put in the latter. I hadn't even though of this before this post.

There are some posts in this thread just saying that it looks too similar to Gears 3. I'd say it isn't a fair comparison to Halo though since Halo has more entries in it and is an older franchise.

Don't listen to Jumper.

Campaign can be the cinematic blockbuster.

Multiplayer and Horde need to be a comfy 60FPS.

I'll play Campaign maybe twice, whereas Multiplayer and Horde I'll stock hundreds of hours. Fluidity and responsiveness are way more important here.

Dont listen to Viking.

Why do you need 60fps for Horde? Serious question... 30fps is comfy too.

It isn't though. The subjective argument is whether 60FPS is worth sacrifices in fidelity; the objective stance is while you can acclimatise, 60FPS is objectively better than 30. This is a debate I'm sure you've seen one million times over though.

Jumping from a 60FPS multi to a 30FPS horde mode would be awful.

I agree with your first statement, but virtually unchanged? That's unlikely. It would be the jankiest/muddiest looking game on the platform if it did.

But I'll put money on it ending up looking like a up-res'd Gears 3. Because that's exactly what it looks like right now, minus some shadows and missing textures. Could have just hired Bluepoint for a Gears 3 remaster, honestly.

Even with just added touches to make how it is currently up to par, it would look worse than Halo 5. Which would be weird considering it is coming out a year later.

But 60fps also lends to objectively (usually far) worse graphics. And potentially hampers other things like number of NPC's, size of the game world etc. So its not really that simple. Personally it irritates me that Microsoft is pushing this 60fps angle with both Halo and Gears, games that were both traditionally 30fps, and in many cases graphical showpieces. The system is already underpowered as it is, so the decision to stick to 60fps seems even more superfluous.

All this negativity is a shame and we'll just have to wait and see if there was a good reason to be negative. It would be a pretty big disappointment if it doesn't impress graphically. Both SP and MP have always looked really damn good. Gears 3 MP actually looked damn close to SP, probably the same. This is all the price of 60fps?

why do you need eye candy etc for horde? serious question

I rather have nice looking environments, graphics and tons of Ai, than lackluster downgraded graphics and less AI.

Not everything has to be 60fps. This obsession for 60fps got really annoying with this gen.

Jumping from a 60FPS multi to a 30FPS horde mode would be awful.

Why is it, that i always read this...

Im switching around ton of games with different framerate targets. And getting used to a different framerate doesnt take much time. You make it a bigger issue as it really is.

And i really dont see why it would be awful.

I'm not saying it wasn't getting bashed for that. I'm just referring to something else.

People did bitch and moan about H5 a lot but once you played it you realized how good all those changes were.
Definitely, I personally did the same.

I don't want anything to change the formula of Gears away from cover, power weapons and the Gnasher online. Anything else and it wouldn't be Gears.

Gears of War 4 looks kind of the same...

I get that the original Gear of War did the whole cover based shooter thing in 2006 and it was great, but games have moved on.

We've since then seen games like Max Payne 3, Vanquish and Resident Evil 6 all do interesting things with it's mechanics. Games like Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Last of Us have me wondering if we even need "sticky cover" anymore.

Titanfall showed us the importance of mobilty and Halo 5 wasn't afraid take some chances either. Hell, even Uncharted 4 is doing cool things with the grappling hook.

I look at the Gears of War 4 leaked beta footage and can't help but feel I've played this game before... like 4 times already.

The graphics don't bother me. Running at 60 FPS is the right call and I'm glad it's becoming more common in competitive multi-player games.

With that said, I am sat here wondering why active reload hasn't been stolen by every other shooter. SUCH a good gameplay mechanic.

So you're going with the "where's the innovation" argument then we point out Judgement exists and nobody wants that shit.

Play any Rainbow Six Siege by chance? Going from MP (60fps) to Terro hunt (30fps) is jarring and borderline headache inducing. It's like playing a game and then it's better sequel back to back...feels awful.

I'm perfectly happy with them going back to Gears 3 as a base. It's what we need. Innovation is a suckers game when your base formula is so good.

I dont care about the graphics even if they most defently is going to improve it, the thing that bothers me is that the gameplay is excatly the same as the first game. Why dont the use the extra power to improve the animations and fluidity. This just looks like just copy/paste from what they released in 2006 with Gears 1.

I enjoyed Judgement's campaign with modifiers enabled more than Gears of War 3's campaign...

As for the multi-player, I actually don't remember the changes. All I remember was the grenade had it's own button or something.

If Judgement brought something new to the series, I must of missed it.
