Reposting from another thread:
Even the new map sprites that people hate are based on official artwork from the time...
I've always thought this art style was terrible.
The tragic thing about the mobile/PC version is that they went to a high-resolution art style but in a way that actually shows less detail than the SNES version.
Here's the patch to fix the translations for the SNES versions:

And here's the graphics and sound fixes for the GBA version:

If you were trapped in a room with only about 50 hours worth of air, and a PC that only had the PC/Mobile version of FFVI and Catfight for DOS installed, I'd recommend spending all of that time playing the latter.
SNES emulated with romhacks
I'm 99% sure this line (or a near identical one) was used in both the mobile and GBA ports. It's like Spoony Bard in FF4, you just can't remove the classics.
Any suggestions on mods that improve the experience?
The next time someone says "graphics don't matter" I'll make sure to point them to this thread, since that is literally the only thing keeping this version from being the best version of the best final fantasy game.
What about Brave New World?
How is it, anyway? I don't think I've ever actually finished VI, but BNW sounds intriguing.
A fan translation exists?! How good is it?Dig out your SNES or play it on an emulator with a fan translation.

Isn't the Snes translation really crappy and full of errors?
It was the best they could do with the files size restrictions at the time. Not full of errors per se. More like full of compromises.
The best version of FFVI doesn't actually exist- The original JP version on SFC/SNES (i.e. uncensored graphics) with the GBA version localization patched it.
You can also make the case that the blurring does more damage than good...
What was censored?
I know Nintendo was very censor happy at the time. (and still is to some degree)
It is a damn shame there is no 'definitive' version of FFVI.
Every version has downsides in their original form.

Yeah. I do have a certain fondness for the Woolsey translations of FFVI and Chrono Trigger. There's a bit of charm to the goof.
