Would you buy NEO if it featured full PlayStation backwards compatibility?

Think about it. Wanna play a PS2 game? Pop it in! The PS3 is Sony's worst selling console, with some of the best games of all time. So many people never bought a PS3 and missed out on great games. If NEO had a PS3, a PS2, and a PS1 baked in, that would be a fantastic selling point!

But is it even possible?

I'll buy it for two reasons:

1) PS1 emulation
2) Blatantly improved PSVR performance

If those are involved, I'm in.

It would NEVER happen but if it did I absolutely would. Hell, I'd probably buy two just because of how amazing that would be.

I will probably buy it anyway, but it would definitely be awesome

I feel like it's extremely cost-prohibitive and would drive the price of the Neo way up. But if it were to happen, I'd definitely consider buying a Neo. My PS3 is an old fat one that can't have too much time left so I'd like to be able to play my PS3 games in the future without buying a 2nd PS3

It would be a nice gesture, but their sights are set on downloads, remasters and cloud streaming.

They reduced the cell processor down considerably for their cloud servers a couple years ago. I imagine it could be shrunk even farther now.

Yeah probably. But I doubt very much it will have PS3 support. I couldn't care less about PS1/2 in the grand scheme of things.

Hell yes. All these PS+ PS3 games I've been racking up, but I just can't take my PS3 out of my closet and use that dualshock 3 to play them. Its the only thing holding me back from playing Spec Ops The Line and Dishonored

I'm somewhat hoping, in vain I know, that this happens. I still have an old fat PS3 that I don't play mostly becuse it's too annoyingly LOUD! I haven't bought a PS4 at all yet so it'll likely be worth waiting for either way.

It wouldn't be much of a factor, I've let old games go. I don't have the time to play PS1 games man. Or space to keep the boxes.

Keep the entry price low and make it PS4 only. All the worthwhile old games should be available digitally anyway.

I'd rather PSNow got a reasonable decrease on its subscription plan because 'Pfft' to £120 to stream games I could play on another box.

I'm thinking they should either do this, or perhaps release a new PS3 with more functionality. Or maybe I should just go buy a PS3 super slim?

I definitely would but there's no way it's happening.
Also, inb4 lock.
why lock? It's just an idea, and one that obviously has legs.

I'm way past ps1 games, and I have about 4 ways to play them. I have two ps3's that has backwards compatibility, and a ps2 still. A pc that can play ps1 and 2 games also.

Neo for GT Sport though

No. That'd make the wound even deeper for those not happy about the existence of this thing already.

With the PS2 re-releases like GTA and such on PS4 and remasters galore, I honestly think backwards compatibility would be a waste currently.

It may be possible and yes, I would buy it ;). 2.1 GHz modern OOOE cores are quite quite close to the 3.2 GHz in order PPE and SPU's.

This is a dream of mine that will sadly never happen

Put a cell inside and start selling PS1 classics and I'd be happy

Shit I'd just settle for PS1 classics as I dont like playing on my PS3 anymore

When I first made the thread, it was just PS3 BC. But the more I thought about it, why stop there? I think they could emulate a cell processor if the new GPU were powerful enough.

This is fantastic! I really hope Sony persues something like this. I'd sell my PS4 in a heartbeat if they did so, and buy a shitload of PS3/PS2/PS1 games. They could literally reprint new copies of all the classics. I'm a digital guy usually, but the thought of a PlayStation that can play all PlayStation games has me salivating.

An ultimate Playstation system that plays all console games? Sounds too good to be true. I would get it. Heck how about sweetening the deal and making it region free across all generations of games.

If you think it could happen, you're in for disappointment.
