NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

This is just another death knell for E3. Hardly anyone actually wants to do it anymore. Nintendo not even doing their big console reveal at E3 is a sign of the times more than it is a mistake from Nintendo.

I'm disappointed, but only because I wanted to know more. C'est la vie. Guess I'll have to wait even longer. ):

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Does anyone think that Nintendo will actually have an E3 Direct then?

Trying to think about what they will do for E3 now.......Here is just some guessing on my part of possible layout of their E3 coverage.

Nintendo Championship:
-Nintendo has Smash, Mario Maker and some NES games playable. Maybe Federation Force is included.
-Announce Mother 3 (Re-named Earthbound something)

Main Direct Event:
-Go into detail about Zelda Wii U finally; story, world, gameplay, the works.
-Talk about Paper Mario Color Splash and #FE some more with hard release date for the former.
-Announce GC Remaster; either Mario Sunshine or Luigi's Mansion. Releases in August or September to pad-out game line up.
-Announced Pikmin 4 for Wii U; gets a November release (big holiday game).

3DS Announcements & Other 2016 Stuff:
-More SNES games landing on New 3DS VC
-Mega May gets the following for Nintendo Systems: Mega Man Soccer, Mega Man ZX and Mega Man Starforce
-More indie ports announced/released
-Release date for DQVII 3DS announced; Fall 2016

I think they may reveal shortly after e3 (ie within Q3). Although that's wishful thinking more than anything.

It actually equals April of 2017 with a launch window of Holiday 2017 which equals Spring 2018.

That's a legit concern!

The only think keeping my spirits up is that they have basically told investors it's coming this fiscal year. Now I know they can go back on that - but it would not be a smart move for Kimishima with his first major launch.

They could easily have said "2017" as they did with Zelda. But they have stuck their neck out with a month, and crucially it's a month which is within this fiscal year.

This will make two straight consoles that Nintendo has left to fester and die before the launch of a new one.

I can't help but think about why I care so much about them as a presence with consoles. They have fucked up so much that they are basically a non-factor. There is nothing to point at increased third party support. No rumors. No hints. So, this is yet another console they probably have to carry and they have shown that they can't. And hell, at this point, we're just assuming its a console.

Pretty much all we know about the system points to increased third party support from Japanese companies, at the very least. S-E announcing DQ 11 for the system, Serkan Toto saying Bandai Namco has several games in development, positive statements from Koei Tecmo, Spike Chunsoft, and Level 5, etc.

There's been other smoke about better Western third party support, but that's not as solid at this point.

I suppose it isn't too surprising there might be delays etc. It might take time to transition from Iwata's ideas to how Kimishima wants to structure the company.

I still can't wrap my head around a Mach 2017 launch tho (esp if they aren't going to show anything at E3). Did the want to get it out for Holiday 2016, but they hardware and/or software wouldn't be ready? If so, is 3 months really going to make a significant difference? Feels like they could have had a limited launch in Holiday 2016 and just released more games in March 2017.

Or is March 2017 literally the absolute earliest they can get the thing out? Which implies a rushed launch to me. Even though it would suck, I think it would be better for them to come out with a strong product they are confidant in Fall 2017. Rushing a console out, and then it being mistake would be as disastrous as the Wii U.

There is no way Pikmin will be sent to die on Wii U. Also there is no way they wouldn't have it playable at E3.

Pikmin isn't happening.

All is forgiven if Mario Sunshine is remastered. It won't though because of the way that game uses the gamecube's shoulder buttons. On the gamepad it's digital while the gamecube controller it's analog.

Pikmin isn't happening.

So the Wii U is just going to flounder this fall while Sony/Microsoft enjoy quality first & third party releases? Guess Nintendo really is tone deaf after all then :l.

Zelda in all likelyhood is nintendo largest, most expensive game of all time. I don't believe they'd launch it in March.

Crazy that they are considering releasing their system in march. But I'd believe that before launching Zelda in the middle of the year.

So Nintendo is going to have all that empty space at E3? That is bizarre.

No, they will just show off some of their "older" games (Smash, Super Mario Maker, Splatoon etc.) as they usually do at gamescom and other mass gaming events.

Don't worry, will slip to "Holiday 2017" in no time ;)

Can't not wait for the Tim Gettys reaction(s).

On the next Kinda Funny Gamescast:

Tim: "You know, I love Nintendo, but I can't say I understand what they're thinking with this. Not even at E3? Are they insane?"
Colin: "Nintendo should go third-party."
Greg: "To be honest, I can't say I'm too surprised. That Wii U-lineup is looking pretty slim, too, so yeah...wouldn't wanna be a Nintendo fan right now."
Colin: "Nintendo should go third-party."
Tim: "It sucks, that's for sure."

Why do people doubt Mother 3 getting localized? We got solid rumors of that being a thing early this year I believe from Emily Rogers and she is a strong source. Oh well I suppose, glad I don't care much about Nintendo this year outside of Kirby on the 3DS.

After digesting this news today. I am somewhat glad on March release, helps me saved a bit more and leaves me room during holiday to buy other things. Outside of that, Nintendo has slowly been moving away from E3 now that I think about it, still think is a bad idea not to show it at E3. It looks like they are taking more idea from other company having their own events to announce stuff (Occulus, Apple, Google, Facebook) instead of releasing all their information alongside everyone else.

Hope the March release does mean an ample supply of various games (including some third-party ones).

So this delay pretty much kills the chances that the NX will have at least a little better third party support than the Wii U right? I mean I always thought that was going to happen, but it still sucks. I juust can't see this thing be successful with just Nintendo games.

Wow. Well, if Nintendo wanted to sell me a PS4, they pretty much figured out how to do it. I don't think I can wait another year with next to no console game releases. I know everyone here is likely freaking the hell out right now, so I'm just adding another voice to the chorus, but this really smells like something is not going right behind the scenes at Nintendo. I doubt they were hoping for 2016 to be even more barren than the already lacking 2015, and yet here we are.

Missing the holiday season and launching in March after most people have completely drained their wallets on Christmas and big companies have just done their layoffs seems like pretty inopportune timing to get your console out to market.

Oh well, I really just wanted to learn more about this damn thing so that all the speculation can be put to rest, but I guess that's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Bet there will be a game or two revealed at E3 that nobody is ready for.
Has to be, Right? New IP? Hoping for less sequels, upon sequels, upon sequels.

Nintendo could release 10 games for the Wii U this fall and it would still flounder. It's dead. It's over. Nintendo would be wise to cut their losses and not spend resources that could go towards NX instead. What are the risking? Pissing off the minuscule Wii U userbase, who is mostly made up of hardcore Nintendo fans who will buy whatever they are selling anyway?

This is hilariously bad. Nintendo's E3 stuff last year was a 6/10 that people shit all over (I thought it was absolutely one of their weaker years, but not every year is insane, splatoon was good tho)

It'll be interesting to see how Nintendo spins only having ONE playable game releasing a year away into good thing. Clearly Color Splash must be a warm turd if they're not even making it playable.

Also, I can't really see Nintendo announcing much at all. The best case scenario is that they have trailers for NX launch games without making them playable. Or the Wii U is getting a massive price cut this winter and Nintendo doesn't want those six people to not buy it in favor of waiting for the NX.

Unless there's a ton of 3DS or Wii U games coming out for some reason, it seems like Nintendo will have next to nothing to show off this year. That could shake out alright, if March comes and the NX drops with a sick launch lineup and a kickass e3 shortly after. We'll see. I doubt that much at e3 could have topped my Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE hype

So, we're good for another year of rumours & speculations :]
Let's start right now.
Why hasn't this been posted?

http://kotaku.com/nintendo-new-nx-console-will-be-out-march-2017-1773312629

I know it's not much, but definitely sounds like they really want to make sure they have enough games ready to go and that's why it's not releasing this year.
Thanks.

What really caught my attention was this:
This will be hardware that’s been made with a new way of thinking. I’d like to announce more particulars regarding its specs and how it works another time this year.”
Not very "casual" Nintendo to emphasise this, and to put it first, before the "how it works" (concept).
