Play something else, it's all you can do. Guilty Gear is coming out soon? Even KoF14 and BBCF will be out well before T7 i imagine, and there's always SFV.

Tekken's just a largely asia/arcade only franchise for now and for the foreseeable future. That's not so unique a situation, it happens to a lot of anime fighters too. Well, used to happen at least.

Probably best to forget about Tekken for now. Sadly.

None of those other fighters hook me like Tekken. :/

I'm playing through the beginning of Dark Souls 3 and also finding it boring. And I've already reached King rank on the Patrick team for Splatoon yesterday so I have nothing else to play right now besides RE6 with AAK.

Well, correction: I have a lot of stuff I could be playing but most of it needs to hook me and nothing is right now.

That's how Scamco gets you, mang.. ! Ha ha. =D

I feel the same, largely. But if my options are
1) Nothing
2) Old Tekken against only rerankers with Tag mechanics i don't really like and intermittent server problems
3) Old Tekken with literally half your matches against lagswitchers or hackers and intermittent server problems
4) Guilty gear or Blazblue or KoF14 or something with some SF5 on the side

I'm picking option 4, especially if i can convince my pals to try some of those too. Can hardly tell them in good conscience to come play Tekken with me right now.

Dark Souls 3 has been a nice diversion too. I have been enjoying it a lot.

I'm in the early parts of Dark Souls 3. It's okay so far. Hoping it gets better though.

Also, KOFXIV releasing in August 2016. The game was announced in September last year. Tekken 7 announced in July 2014.. Release date?????

This was so me when I first popped in Tekken Hybrid onto my PS3 and experienced Tag Assault for the first time.

And then I had a very similar feeling when I first got Tag 2 in September 2012 and the netcode actually worked! I don't think I could've handled another Tekken 6 release. That TZ thread when the first impressions of T6's netcode started dropping was too depressing.

I'd be happier about this if it was also coming out in the EU. It's always one step forward and two steps back with fighting games, sigh.
EU still being treated like trash? smh.
Remember the PS1 days when "localization" meant cutting a game down to 50Hz to fit PAL TVs? 11 year old me trying to play Final Fantasy VI with my limited/non-existent English. JRPGs were my English teachers :p
I thought those times were over, but I think some Japanese publishers still haven't gotten that message.

loves Arcade Sticks
So Mark if you win a Tekken tour event can you still enter the other ones? I'm going to Wizard World in Minneapolis so I want to know.

As of now, no you can't. But we're working on updating the rules.

Atlus is publishing the new KOF right? Yeah, Europe is screwed of they're the ones handling it.

That's not how it works. ATLUS is handling it for North America. It's up to SNK to find a publishing partner for EU, not ATLUS.

Right. Atlus has said they're not doing it for EU in any case, and no one else has taken it up. Trailers are mentioning only JP and US regions, the product page has a suspiciously greyed out link for EU region. So it is looking grim.

On the upside, the older KoF14 updates -did- show up on the Playstation EU blog. Pqube, who is handling Xrd R so superbly, also might have an announcement this week.

So BELIEVE etc.

That's not how it works. ATLUS is handling it for North America. It's up to SNK to find a publishing partner for EU, not ATLUS.

Yeah. Now that they're owned by Sega i guess one could somewhat blame Sega Europe though.

Edit: Happy birthday, Markman!

Like any Tekken fan, I've been speculating about a console release date and I keep arriving to the conclusion that a 2016 date seems really unlikely, here's why I think so.

Fated Retribution is supposed to be at Evo 2016 and people are saying that the game has to be finished to be there. I don't know where people are getting this from, if you guys have like a quote or something, post a link.

Here's a post from last year regarding a MK patch. In this situation Mr. Wizard would accept any patch for the game up until July 8, which was one week before Evo started. Considering that Fated Retribution isn't a new game, but in other words "a patch", maybe it will be treated the same way, I don't know. Regardless, America won't be playing the game so the "give players a week to get used to the patch" situation would be relevant.

Regardless of this though, we'll just suggest that Fated Retribution will come out in July. That leaves 5 months until the end of the year. Remember, Tekken 7.0 came out March 2015, and it got updates after it came out. So, just because the game gets released in July, it doesn't mean that the game will be finished. It'll have to get patched and see updates in the arcades as people play it. Who knows how much stuff they'll add to the game after it comes out. It doesn't make sense for Namco to put Fated Retribution in arcades for let's say, 4 months. I don't think 4 months is enough time for them to release all of the new stuff, updates, patches and bugfixes, make enough money in arcades, and then port it to console.

Not to mention, the PS4K isn't even out or has been announced yet. Basically my conclusion is that it doesn't make sense for Namco to release the game this year, however, them announcing the game at Evo or E3, does kind of make sense. If you were wondering though, I don't think they'll be making any announcements regarding a console version anytime soon. Maybe during the winter they'll make an announcement. They could announce Lee in August, maybe they'll add Ryu. Maybe some of the characters will be extremely broken. Anything can happen, and this "anything" could make FR stay in arcades even longer. I doubt it's going to come out and play perfectly. Feel free to correct me on anything, or basically everything since I never said that I knew what I was talking about.

I honestly think T7FR will still go on ahead as an EVO tournament game even if its Arcade release gets delayed until after the tournament. It doesn't really make any difference to 99% of the people attending. Namco can still provide setups for it and I don't think Wizard&co. will backtrack and remove FR from the lineup in that scenario.

So yeah, I am fully prepared and expecting to see FR's Arcade release getting delayed till after EVO and having to wait another year after that for a console release. By then NX will be out, and it'll hopefully release on all 3 consoles + PC.

FR getting released in arcades after Evo is something that I didn't consider.

Same! Tag 2 was great all around. Perfectly reasonable time frame from the arcade to console transition, loaded with content and characters, and so much was still left to discover even though Asia had the game for one year already. Even 3+ years later now, the game still doesn't feel fully tapped.

Getting Tekken Tag 2 prologue made magnitudes of difference. It was an avenue to feel like the west still mattered within the franchise.

Nintendo delays NX to March 2017 along with Zelda. That's probably the month we'll get Tekken 7 as well. lmao.

It's increasingly sad to see Japanese companies losing their edge over the past decade. Capcom, Konami, and Sega already in the gutter.

Ni-oh doesn't disappoint.

The combat is something I always imagined how it worked in feudal Japan. Combination of Onimusha, Bushido Blade and Souls works.

Dat feeling when you pull off perfect parry and opponent gets turned backwards for brutal katana decapitation..

Only thing that worries is that they may focus on PS4Noe leaving the Righteous PS4 unoptimized.

Creaking

He touched the black heart of a mod
It was pretty good, though the later areas of the second level felt more grindy and less satisfying. Fighting the big demons just isn't as fun as fighting foot-soldiers.

Should get on it more
Tried alittle and got rekt. Love that

Yeah it's pretty hardcore. I played whole day and just now my character is buff enough to try to engage 2 enemy grunts at once. But 3 is just panic mode and running blindly into walls ending in cowardly death, haha.

I don't remember the last time I had to nervously take slowest steps possible with my weapon drawn in blocking stance because death was waiting on every corner.

Cool game.

Thought this ANN interview had a couple of good Q&A:

We've been seeing a bit of a trend lately, spearheaded by games like Street Fighter V and King of Fighters XIV, where new fighting games are skipping an arcade release entirely. Tekken, however, is still going strong in arcades. What are your thoughts on the situation?

Harada: For a lot of companies, it's not really a choice of being able to release first in the arcades or not. An arcade operator has to purchase a game for several thousand dollars, hoping that they'll be able to recoup their investment. Many fighting games couldn't have an arcade release even if they wanted to, because nobody would buy them at that sort of price. Tekken is one of the few still able to command that sort of premium. While Street Fighter IV had an arcade presence, Tekken had five times the amount of machines running - and Street Fighter is one of the stronger ones! If you compare it to other fighting games, we have ten times more machines in operation than them.

The arcade is also a very different business model because the player pays for each time they play a game. If the game isn't fun, then they don't put in more money. That allows us to create a game that's more polished - if people keep playing it, that means it's interesting. Also, it generates quite a bit more profit than many people might think. That, in turn, allows us to take that very polished fighting game and use the income from the arcade version to add bells and whistles like CG movies to the eventual console ports. It's a very good pattern for us that maybe isn't available to other fighting games.

Tekken arcade is making the monies. Enjoy your second class citizenship foreigners!

I've noticed that the number of 3D fighting games seems to be on the decline. There are a lot of 2D fighters using 3D visuals, but they still play on a side-scrolling plane. Why do you think 3D fighters have fallen out of favor, and what do you think can be done to reverse this?

This discussion doesn't happen very often, but we've actually been thinking about this very thing for a long time. It might not have so much to do with the “playing” aspect but the “watching” aspect. With 2D fighters, you tend to have a lot of over-the-top techniques like fireballs and energy blasts. Tekken is more like watching something like boxing or UFC grappling. Using boxing as an example, you have several different weight classes, and some of the weight classes are much quicker, but not as hard-hitting as the heavyweights.

In America, though, the heavyweights tend to be more popular—their punches are slower, but when they connect, they have a lot more impact. When you really get deep into boxing, though, you realize things like what jabs are for, the strategies they're employing against each other, and so on, but that can be hard to see if you're just watching on TV.

It's the same story with UFC and grappling. Someone might not be interested in what's going on, they just want to see a KO. If you don't know who's doing what, who's trying to get advantage, then it's not very exciting. Perhaps 3D fighters are similar—you don't have those flashy skills, and it's not always easy to understand why a person's doing a jab or similar technique. Unless you know these elements and understand what's going on, it's harder to be entertained compared to a 2D fighter.

I knew Tekken was way more popular in Japan than Street Fighter but I didn't know the ratio of arcade cabs was freakin 5 to 1. Holy shit LOL

I recall somewhere it was mentioned awhile ago that Tekken usually sells around one thousand machines and Street Fighter does a few hundred. The cabs also go for around $11,000 - $15,000 so that's already 11-15 million in profit just from selling the machines. Unless I've screwed up my math in some major way.

I do wish Namco would release their financials on how much revenue Tekken has made on both console and arcade since the Tekken 1 days.

So I pretty much cut soda out of my diet about two years and only drink water. I only craved soda/something flavored for two weeks after quitting, and now I never think about it. In fact, I feel disgusted whenever I see soda.

My next challenge is to lower my carb intake, but it's extremely difficult. All the food I love is all carbs (bread, rice, pasta, etc.), and I'm not a big meat eater. Think I'm gonna put myself in a one week, low carb challenge and then gradually make a habit of eating very few carbs. I need to find a low carb, vegetarian recipe book or something, but I also don't want all my protein to be from soy.

Fixing my sleep patterns is the other major thing, along with incorporating more exercise. What are you doing to improve your lifestyle?

In other news, Tekken 7 still hasn't released.

^^^Look at this hero being all healthy....

The place I'm working at right now has free chocolate bars for employees in the kitchen that's restocked every weekend. Everytime I go into the kitchen to the refill my water bottle I see that pile of kitkats, reese cups, and chocolate chip granola bars.... I'm too weak to resist and it's crumbling my diet. I'm trying to curb it by bringing grapes and dates with me to work to get my sugar intake from something more... natural? But I still end up faltering to those chocolate bars a couple times every week :( Today being one of them LOL.
I also had left-over cookies & cream ice cream that I couldn't help but finish after dinner today... curse my insatiable sweet tooth :(

I finally beat the first boss of the NiOh alpha.Had this one rally of pure zen where I was focused enough to parrry every attack... but I still get wrecked when facing more than one enemy at once. I hope I haven't spoiled myself of the entire combat tree that will be available in the final game and there will be more to explore. 60FPS combat is just unbeatable... Bloodborne eat your heart out!
