Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

Uncharted's story has never been good imo, so I'm not too worried. All I need are some nice looking set pieces and some decent banter between Drake and Sully.

The darker tone works for me. It's a tricky balancing act but I think the less happy-go-lucky feel is justified by the narrative. And it's not all that grim, just more grounded.

Read two reviews in German magazines (without score, because they played it without the Day-One-patch). But they were allowed to take their own screenshots.

One of them played it for 17 hours, he really loves it but Uncharted 2 is still his favorite in the series. The other said it's the best looking game on PS4 and also the best game on PS4 so far.

Going from a adventure fiction tone to something more dour (for example) isn't a step forward. It isn't a step back. It would just be a change in tone, which some people might dislike.

I'm not sure if framing a change in tone/focus as a evolution is the most successful argument here

I am arguing that the "tone shift" people are freaking out is just a refletion of a more mature take on characterization and story telling, which in no way devaluate the adventure lighthearted spirit of the series.

Well, looking less forward to tomorrow now. Alan Silvestri, Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman to pick from and Marvel gives me Henry Jackman. I'm coming to the conclusion he simply puts out passable work for a great price. That's the only reason that is logical. Hopefully Civil War as a film will drown out his score.

Considering that both films for MCU that Jackman has scored are from the Russo Bros more likely it was left to them to choose their composer. Matthew Vaughn clearly likes working with him as well.

Eh, Uncharted 3 already did that. I think it's a lot more dour tonally than people give it credit for.

What would someone be looking for there.

If there's any reference to
Activision owning the rights to Crash
. Typically they'd need to list them in the credits for licensing it. If there's no mention, it may have potentially
traded hands back to Sony
, which would be incredible news in itself.

Sorry for the "spoilers", but I don't want to upset anyone who doesn't want knowledge of *anything* actually in the game.

I guess I'm just kinda puzzled by the complaints.

If you've seen the official media, you kind of know the story beats that set the game up.

A tone like UC2 in that kinda setup would be a tonal disconnect. I think the vast majority of people will play it and find no issue.

I feel like I'm on my own here. It looks good, but I'm not seeing anything to warrant the omg holy crap best ever comments.

Shrug.

Oh man I knew it. The game was being praised due to early hype. I can just smell a 85 tonight.
That happens with every game though and it's why I never take early impressions from GAF members seriously. I just hope people are right about the shooting mechanics being a big step up from the previous ones. Tuesday needs to hurry up.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

One question for those who have played. Does this game still have a national treasure/Indiana jones vibe and does it feel original and compelling whereas Uncharted 3 sort of felt been there done that? In other words, if there is more focus on characters, is the plot and treasure hunting compelling?
