They want us to be fully immersed in Zelda!

They will upload trailers for Rhythm Heaven, Color Splash etc. to the youtube channel then, in the same way they recently announced 5 new Splatoon amiibo outside of a Direct.

We knew that Zelda would be the only playable game on the showfloor, but that didn't mean they wouldn't release trailers and new info for other games. But apparently they really show Zelda and only Zelda.

It's quite weird, since they still have quite a few 3DS games to be released this year.
Sure, but how many other announced games do they have to show except pokemon and paper mario?

"If you don't like Zelda, then fuck off!" - Nintendo at E3 2016

It looks like Nintendo is either woefully unprepared or it's waving the white flag on 2016. Feels like a rudderless ship over there.

As somebody already stated, it is clear Nintendo was planning on unveiling NX at E3. Look at the massive amount of floor space Nintendo has rented. Look how they have literally no other games to talk about. They were clearly set for NX only, and they screwed themselves over by delaying.

Nintedo just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Zelda on either system, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel E3 for 2016 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

No Direct? Just one game for all of E3? Wow, they really must be hurting.

Explain to me how this is indicative of them 'hurting'? Hurting in the sense that they have nothing to show? They have a whole new platform that they'll show later this year and will be on store shelves next March. Hurting in terms of a lack of games? They have quite a few things coming this year (Paper Mario, #FE, Pokemon Sun/Moon, Kirby, Monster Hunter Generations, Dragon Quest etc and Zelda next year which evidently is enough on its own to hold a whole E3 if 2016 is anything to go by.) and that's not keeping in mind the inevitable NX games that they'll show later. Hurting in terms of financials? Nah they're doing alright, 10 billion in assets. Amiibo's are doing well and they have a bright future ahead with mobile. I just don't see it. Nintendo will have an E3, it'll just be later.

This feels like something purely for Nintendo fans. I can't understand why they're even attending E3 this year otherwise.

They're going to be pushing the NX version much, much harder than the Wii U game later this year.

Aren't all press conferences or digital events or whatever pretty much just for fans and the press?

I disagree. Nobody really gives a shit about e3 other than Press and enthusiasts like us, both of which are well connected enough to see their independent event later in the year anyways, and even know exactly why they skipped out on e3. Just Zelda is still better than the year we got Wii sports resort

I'm not sure that's true- I know it's anecdotal but I have at least 10 friends who don't frequent boards or other sites (besides like IGN) who know very well what E3 is and watch E3 streams. It's become a fairly mainstream event, regardless of how long left it has to live.

This isn't surprising at all after the previous announcement. Don't know why people are acting shocked.

Focusing on Zelda alone actually makes more sense than throwing some 3ds games in there too. An E3 direct would just have had expectations of NX game reveals even if the console wasn't there. We already had people assuming that after the last announcement. Clearly they aren't ready to show that stuff at all.

What they'll probably do is have a direct later in June or July to talk about all the 3DS stuff coming this year plus Paper Mario.

Then they'll have their NX event in September/October.

Seems really obvious.

Rhythm Heaven, third party stuff like Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest. There's a few games they need to announce the localization for like Style Savvy 3, and Kimishima has said that there are unnannounced 3DS titles releasing this year.

If this means launch won't just be New Super Nabbit Nx, Lego Dimensions Nx and Rayman Spin-off Nx, then its probably for the best.

If it' releasing in March then those games should be presentable at E3 with trailers. Skipping E3 doesn't indicate that there will be a large launch line-up. All this radio silence does is hurt them.

I really think that if they're really gonna skip giving major announcements on e3 they'll give them around autumn, to hype the NX release next year. It could be a major 2 hrs Nintendo Direct maybe, but that's just my whisful thinking.

Man, the response everywhere to this is going to be fierce. Someone should get the tissues, pitchforks, and popcorn ready!

Indeed. It's not going to be pretty. On the positive side, no overinflated hype and dreams crashing this year so that's a plus I guess lol.

They likely don't have much left to announce for 3DS/Wii U. They can just have their own direct in May/June/July window to announce any remaining news for 3DS games and Paper Marion, and not have to stand out as such a disappointing E3 event when compared to the other conferences.

That's my rationale anyways. Will be weird having such little E3 presence from Nintendo though.

This is not a healthy Nintendo. NX hopefuls should be worried.

Should EA fans be too, because they skip E3 for their own event? Nintendo would've had a big NX event at E3.. but they've moved it to the fall. What's the difference?

Hopefully the Treehouse folks don't get verbally abuse online, they should turn of chat they don't deserve this, no one does.

Also I'm actually fine with this because I'm in no hurry to know anything. But that's just me personally

Eh they'll earn it all back through a NX reveal event. They're wanting to stand out and E3 isn't the place to do it with so many competing companies being there. Smart move, this way the NX will get total attention when it's shown.

Hyped for zelda news.

NX will be at CES in January, Nintendo have already paid for the E3 booth so they'll show what they have rather than a no show.

This is such a weird E3.

And the NX is going to be out in March like? Just tell us what it is!

I don't get this at all.

On the other hand, so much pressure and expectations put on Zelda. I don't even want to spoil too much of the game, so I'm not sure I will watch too much from these 3 days. Because I like Zelda anyhow, I'm not super picky when it comes to it. And we already know that half of the people will hate something, the art style, the world, the map, the little butterfly in the grass. It will be simultaneously the best and the worst Zelda of all times in the GAF thread. So that's that with Nintendo's E3.

This pretty much reminds me of Konami. When they stopped doing live conferences and at one point had nothing to show other than MGSV in streams. Before they obviously left the market.

That sure... shouldn't be the image/connotation you want to convey in the position of clear market loser who wants to establish a new platform soon :lol

NX and it's development must be a disaster of epic proportions. There is literally no defense for having no E3 presence.
If it's not ready then it's not ready. How do you come up with your "epic" hyperbole? Relax

When Nintendo announces a NX reveal event everybody will be hyped and cheery lol

Sounds like they are really sweating blood to get NX ready if they aren't willing to spend any time doing traditional E3 stuff.

It depends on what you want NX to be. I'm hoping for a 1st party box with weak specs targeting the mobile crowd, not a Sony/MS competitor chasing the western AAA multiplat gamer, i.e. E3's main audience.

Distancing themselves from E3 is a good move because their games don't have much overlap with people who tune in to watch the show, in the same way showcasing Nintendogs and Wii Fit at E3 is ineffective.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Last E3: We won't show Zelda.
This E3: We'll only show Zelda.

How can you do this? I wish I had the strength

I'm already getting it. I'm already sold on it. I've bought and finished every zelda game made to date, nothing could stop me doing the same here.

I'll just unsub for anyone on youtube who would cover it, use twitter sparingly (and mute tons of zelda terms), and not click on zelda related gaf threads. I will, at least, attempt to not watch any zelda footage going forward, if possible. ESPECIALLY not since Nintendo E3 is basically going to ruin the first couple hours of the game, I'm sure.

I know I can't avoid: Title, ALL screenshots, and animated gifs people post randomly - as well as tangential conversations involving some mechanics, but the less I know, the more enjoyable it'll be, i'm sure. No prejudice or overhyping myself going in - I get to judge it on its own merits.

This makes me really excited for Nintendo's NX showcase. Fuck E3 they are going to really put everything they have into their own shit.

I fully expect them to announce a PS experience type yearly event in place of E3 presence from now on.

This actually makes a lot more sense to me than the original perception, which was that Nintendo was going to have the same presence they've had in the past, but that it would be nearly all Zelda. This more accurately reflects the apparent reality that Nintendo have nothing to show (or nothing they want to show) until the NX announcement.
The system is coming out in less than a year and they have nothing to show.

Yeah.... not a good sign.

They are absolutely killing their mind share, although it's pretty dead already.

At first I thought, "Wow, this is a terrible move. Digital Events are great..."

Then I thought about last year's total disaster and now I'm neutral about it. Last year's was a straight kick to the groin. "Hey look, HD Animal Crossing!!! Oh wait, IT'S A BOARD GAME!"

Okay so even within your anecdotal slice, would they really have anything to say or any sort of pressing opinion on Nintendo not attending e3? Like I'm sure they know about it and see and share videos on Facebook and Instagram and stuff but do they really give a shit ? Or is it more likely that we are a very small handful of gamers that like to analyze and pontificate upon the industry itself...

To normal people games are just games. Like movies and music. They don't follow the industry. E3 is for press, mainly, and also enthusiasts. One year they didn't even let fans in lol it was only press allowed iirc

I wonder if the Wii U Paper Mario Colour Splash has been quietly cancelled and moved to NX? Wasn't that announced as a 2016 game? Weird that it's not at E3 playable.

This tells me two possible things.

1. Nintendo is eventually going to drop E3 for good or just do the bare min to keep their booth space.

2. It looks more and more like there will be a big NX event after E3 similar to how Sony and Microsoft had their events for the PS4 and XBO. Similar to how EA is having it's own event right before E3. How Bethseda just has it's event and then shows up at presentations of other shows.

This doesn't hurt Nintendo I think in the end. Let's not get it twisted. This is really another nail in the coffin for E3 itself.

LOLOLOLOL!!!!! Stop lying to yourself. Millions of people will be paying attention to video games and Nintendo is not going to be present.

That's NEVER good.
