Hope they at least have a big Zelda celebration on the Treehouse stream. Maybe play a bunch of the games, speedruns, interviews, etc.

The way things seem to be going with Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if NX ends up delayed until Holiday 2017.

What a colossal disappointment :(

I mean, they HAVE unannounced 3DS games. Why not announce them in a Direct here?
Going by the Trev leak, we only really have one other major 3DS game left to be revealed (though keep in mind, the new Kirby game counted as a major game on the leaked schedule), which is the rumored N-Stars game. And Kimishima did say that there were both unannounced first & third party 3DS games on the way.

NX and it's development must be a disaster of epic proportions. There is literally no defense for having no E3 presence.

There are a ton of reasons for having no E3 presence. It's less relevant than it's ever been. If they have a Direct before or after E3 they aren't competing for notoriously short attention spans, and they really don't have anything else to talk about sans some 3rd party stuff, which don't really need a Direct.

LOLOLOLOL!!!!! Stop lying to yourself. Millions of people will be paying attention to video games and Nintendo is not going to be present.

That's NEVER good.
Actually millions watched Nintendo with the best E3 event in 2014 and it didn't move the needle. So no E3 doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

When NX is ready to be revealed everybody will be hyped.

On the other hand, so much pressure and expectations put on Zelda. I don't even want to spoil too much of the game, so I'm not sure I will watch too much from these 3 days. Because I like Zelda anyhow, I'm not super picky when it comes to it. And we already know that half of the people will hate something, the art style, the world, the map, the little butterfly in the grass. It will be simultaneously the best and the worst Zelda of all times in the GAF thread. So that's that with Nintendo's E3.

If anything, they'll use this as a beta test. Zelda wii u seems to be in a development hell, and is obviously not ready for launch so it probably won't be the incredibly polished game we can expect.
My guess is we won't see anything more than what we saw in the teasers, only playable.

As expected. I just hope this strategy of not revealing anything NX related at E3 and revealing it in the Fall event works out for them. Can't wait to FINALLY see what this Zelda has in store for us!

and after these words, I'll let this thread continue...stay strong GAF I'm out

Given that they're going all in with Zelda at E3, I wonder how pissed they are that what may have been their big reveal for the game (being able to select Link's gender) was spoiled?

So E3 for Nintendo literally is just showing off Zelda. Their NX reveal Direct/event had better be epic.

For some reason I have the gut feeling that MS and Sony aren't going to exactly go all out to make up for Nintendo's non-showing and this E3 as a whole will be summed up as 'Pffffttbbbbbfff'.

Edit: Actually, what be hilarious/sad is if Nintendo just showing up with Zelda and having nothing but treehouse coverage of it somehow manages to be better than what MS/Sony present. Their treehouse stuff *has* been the highlight of the last few E3s for me, so it's not impossible, but those treehouses had a good selection of stuff to show off.

If it's not ready then it's not ready. How do you come up with your "epic" hyperbole? Relax

When Nintendo announces a NX reveal event everybody will be hyped and cheery lol

If you'd like to believe that Nintendo is gonna have an even later this year and show it off and still make the March '17 date with nothing to show 10 months from launch, you can continue believing that everything is fine. It's clearly a disaster considering it's been pushed back from its original date and we still know as much now as we did a few months ago.

Rhythm Heaven, third party stuff like Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest. There's a few games they need to announce the localization for like Style Savvy 3, and Kimishima has said that there are unnannounced 3DS titles releasing this year.

If it' releasing in March then those games should be presentable at E3 with trailers. Skipping E3 doesn't indicate that there will be a large launch line-up. All this radio silence does is hurt them.

If you are playing to the technicality that we don't know that a delay and skipping their e3 direct means anything about the strength of the Nx launch (and specifically lineup given kimishimas comments), then you also cannot definitively state that it will hurt them either, because it's not necessarily indicative of their mindshare. Like I said just Zelda is still better than the year we got Wii sports resort anyway

From a business viewpoint, this makes sense. Nintendo is currently in the process of discontinuing Wii U production and basically all console game development has been transferred towards NX. Why bother use up recourses at E3, when you can get visibilty a lot more effectively later?

Creating hype and momentum is easier when you don't have to compete for media attention.

Sure it's a bummer to have to wait a bit longer, but this way Nintendo can (hopefully) provide games and info about them at a steadier pace than previous console launches. That is a good thing.

Lack of 3DS at E3 is a bit confusing though, as its sales are doing fine and I suppose there are plenty of games coming out this year to show and advertise?

Should EA fans be too, because they skip E3 for their own event? Nintendo would've had a big NX event at E3.. but they've moved it to the fall. What's the difference?

All EA games are present at Sony and Microsoft's conferences anyhow. That's why EA event was redundant since some years already. Last year they spent a lot of time in a boring discusssion with Pele. But all their games will be at E3.

Do you think Nintendo games will be at Microsoft and Sony conference to make your comparison appropriate?

Why would you almost completely skip the main videogame convention when you are going to release your main platform for at least 4 years in 9 months?
They expect their console to get attention by itself?

How? "We're not here this year but we'll be here next year and blow your socks off! Hold our spot Zelda, you got this!" is what I'm seeing.

My interpretation is: "We've got nothing to showcase apart from one game, but if we skip E3 this year then we lose our floor space. We've got to turn up with something! ANYTHING!1!"

The eventual NX reveal is going to have to put on an event that is capable of generating E3 esque levels of buzz if they want this thing to actually sell in March.

That's what I'm saying. They could still talk about these. They don't even need a 45-minute event. Just give me 15-20 minutes. Talk more about Dragon Quest. Show me the mobile games. Give me SOMETHING.

Not doing anything but Zelda is a terrible PR move. It gives the sense Nintendo has nothing in the pipeline and isn't prepared in the least.

Looks like they're not doing the Best Buy demos this year either.

Considering it appears they're going to be spoiling a huge portion of the game at E3, I'm not sure the need for demos.

You're not even wrong.

Nintendo fans will be hyped. Not 'everybody'.
Not really. I see lots of Sony fans and MS fans talking about it. Lots of people will be hyped. It's the first initial event to reveal a system just like all companies have done in the past.

No disaster.

Make no mistake, this is not a "choice" Nintendo is making to not have an e3 presentation. They literally can't.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
The system is coming out in less than a year and they have nothing to show.

Yeah.... not a good sign.

They are absolutely killing their mind share, although it's pretty dead already.

No. We can tell that just after the NX-specific event happens, when, you know, the console is actually announced. And, even more, the months following the unveling event and the ones right before its March launch. This is the real time where we'll see Nintendo's mindshare. And I say "especially after the event because I still remember all the problems that started arising a few months after the 3DS was announced. A console that was already crowned as a mega-success back at E3 2010.

What original date? March 2017 was the first date we were given for it.

XB1 was revealed six months before launch.

Not ready? The thing is coming out in less than a year. It makes no sense at all that they can't show it in some forms. Not even a controller or concept. It's very understandable for someone to think something might have gone very wrong with the NX development because that is the only logical explanation for its absence.

Not sure what's going on. I do agree with those who say they were initially going to show off the NX at E3, but then for whatever reason, the system got delayed and they pulled away from that. But why they can't officially announce it with specs and such, not necessary show off the console itself, but semi-formally announce the system makes no sense to me. And why they aren't using all the floor space to show off more 3DS stuff makes no sense to me.

You have to hope there's some sot of SpaceWorld event later on in the year. Or maybe Nintendo plans on announcing it at the Tokyo Game Show a couple of months later, it does make sense to do it then from a timing perspective.

I stopped being a fan years ago, but I still try and follow what they're doing, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what they're thinking. I guess it's just a lack of leadership at this time without a real CEO at the helm. I hope they can salvage it with a quality announcement for the NX.

Somehow Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Sony, Bethesda, et al., can deal with the "notoriously short attention spans" and announce stuff at E3 and still get coverage. I don't see why this would be an issue for Nintendo.

Likely because the platform isn't ready to be shown (judging by the rumors, third parties got their dev kits not too long ago).
