By the way you can respec in this game unlike BB.

Only 5 times per playthrough, and if you don't care about finishing Sirris' side quest.

The same way a person just telling me to start a whole new character with a focus on a particular stat doesn't appeal to me, going to a Rosaria to respec doesn't seem as fun and intuitive as just being able to whip out a staff and start magicking fools whenever I want.

I'm tired of the dual katanas, I like them but I'm getting bored and I don't feel PvP with them. Probably respecing as a Piromancer, I never gave it a chance on past DS outside some auxiliary spells.

You can do sirris quest and respec.

Edit: Sorry DP.

Picked up the game again since I've got some more time.

Just defeated
the abyss watchers
And now I can go through catacombs or the Cathedral
Where should I go first?

I'm really loving my int build with pyromancy and a into scaling rapier.

Sirris quest doesn't end until I get to the
Twin Princes
. That's a pretty long way to go before I can just decide to be a pyromancer. The game will be almost over and I'd have to get used to the new playstyle on new enemies.

A lot of people play by the limitations that the series presents. And that's cool, each has their own playstyle. But for me, if I go, "Boy, this sword is fun and all, but I want to use magic now" and then just switching equipment and using magic is better than if I have to go respec, which will then mean I lose what progress I've made in the other specs. I'd rather just have all specs filled out.

I need to give DS2 another try. First try was only 8 hours.

Yah I've been replaying it recently.

While I still like the whole experience, I think its real quality is back-loaded. The more interesting (visually) areas are the back half of the game and while I like the macro-structure of the first half of the game, they're pretty drab to explore...

But if you're going to play it, make sure you have the DLC. I really like DS2 and rank it higher than 1 and 3 but that is solely on the backs of the 3 DLC areas.

I go to the cathedral after the knights for a couple reasons

Most imortant reason is that for me Farrom Woods and the Catacombs are the most boring amd tedious partsmof the game so its nice to break up the squalor with an actually beautiful level.

The next most important is that you

need an item from the cathedral boss to get into the area after the catacombs

They only show up if
you don't get the 5 sigils from Yoel and have Yuria show up.

Quick covenant/grinding-related question; if I would decide to move on from NG to NG+, will the difficulty in grinding covenant items from offline enemies increase by a lot? (take the knights in Londo/Lothric for example)

The grind so far is killing me, especially since I missed some items that increases the Item Discovery. I figured I'd go into NG+ and get them, but then if the enemy HP goes up by a lot, it might be counter-productive.

I lost access to ds2 as friend (family share) no longer exists and I ain't buying it. It is expensive (well compared to ds3 where the base game is only one 500 NTD difference).

I play these games slow, I just got to catacombs with 26 hours played.

I know it comes late, just wanted to clarify, both things are posible, since your post implied otherwise. ;)

I just realized that Sulyvahn's Beasts are a reskinned Watchdog of the Old Lords...

... Same animations (melee attacks, and bites) and attack patterns too, just replace fire with lightning.

Fair.

Is there a way to sheath your weapon when you're not using it that doesn't involve taking out the bow or something? I like having my sword at my back when I'm not in a hostile area.

The camera in the fight with the
Nameless King
is absolutely brutal. Irredeemably bad. Locking on is a necessity, because you get completely destroyed if you get hit in the back when running away, but the enemy jumps so much that the game is barely able to keep track of where it's at. It makes the fight ten times harder than it should be.

Also, I've been dropping out of Steam's connection quite frequently nowadays. I'm pretty sure my Internet is just fine and Steam seems to be working well too (it didn't enter offline mode). But the game randomly drops the connection and boots me back to the main menu without any other option. It happened to me yesterday just steps away from the
Great Belfry
bonfire and just now during the aforementioned fight. FFS, I almost had him! Is anyone else facing the same issues?

I've found NG+ even easier than NG, to be honest. I have been one-shotting most bosses so far, either solo or with just one NPC summon. Since you know what to expect from each fight and you already have all your equipment leveled and optimized, you just go in there and sweep. Normal enemies don't seem to change much in NG+ either. Maybe it's because the actual changes aren't that noticeable until a few more "pluses" or because you offset those changes with your gear... but, really, it's not much of a difference.

It's been a while since I've had my Defiled Watchdog brawl but... no, not really. The gatordogs are way more agile, the "spin" bite is super fast, they don't have anywhere near the amount of frontal bite attacks and prefer to spray lightning instead. Also rarely do they do a STOMPMYFEETRAWR move which Watchdog does all the time. Lastly, no AoE.

Oh, wow. I just got kicked out of the game during that same fight again, because it couldn't connect to Steam. But in the main menu it got through just fine. WTF is going on here.

Shit.

I talked to Patches in Firelink, and wanted to get back down. As I always do, I took a little shortcut dropping down towards the thrones. There was Ringfinger Leonhart, who I landed on, making him aggressive. I killed him.

Which sidequest/covenent/items have I fucked for myself? I already have his Red orbs and I killed the Darkwraith in High Wall, since then I don't think I have spoken to him much...

You could two-hand your shield, but that would look extra silly.

You only screwed his personal questline. You can still join the Covenant he was a part of. I think you only lose one key item and a weapon if you simply kill him, and the key item only functions as a way to kill him and get the weapon.

You missed out on

I think, as well as
Rosario's Soul,
which can be transposed into

. The rest of his armor should be at the shop.

Okay, thanks dude. I was so stressed, lol. I don't like missing stuff, and I've been so paranoid talking to everyone every time I'm in Firelink, and I'm playing blind so I'll probably miss stuff anyway, but I'm trying!

How do got exactly farm the Symbol of Avarice?

Best way: throw an Undead Hunter Charm on them. When they wake up, do it again. Repeat. It re-rolls everytime you throw a charm. Make sure to boost your luck as much as you can.

For Explorer Mode, I'm equipping a torch in my left hand and a Dark Hand/Pyromancy Flame in my right hand.

Found a little DS2 throwback that I totally missed the first two times through playing the game. Remember that corpse that you get the "Stretch Out" gesture from in the tower next to the bonfire in the
Profaned Capital
? Well if you inspect the corpse you'll see it's actually
Laddersmith Gilligan from Dark Souls 2!
Can't believe it took me a few playthroughs to actually stop and spot that! Explains the
ladders
all over the tower!

Yeah, I left a message "If only I had a ladder..." there but it only got 1 rating. :(

Great to know, thanks. Almost done with the Farron Keep Perimeter grinding and it's starting to drive me insane. Can't even imagine doing the grinding at Londo or whatever, ugh. :(

Is there any way whatsoever to make the Dancer's Blades not completely suck? :(

I did the trick to get them early and... I wear the fire clutch ring and it's still horrible Damage. Feels like there is no hope.

I can tackle the final boss as soon as I'm ready, but decided to do a bit of cleanup stuff last night. But that said, most of the things I'm missing can't be gained until my next playthrough. And I've been playing on XB1 (I took advantage of the trick to get it early), and I'm probably just going to buy and play the PC version from now on, so I'll probably just finish it off tonight.

I have to admit fatigue set in by the end. At first I thought that was because I was replaying through Bloodborne immediately prior to starting DS3 so it may just be too much From games, but I don't think that's it, as I'm looking forward to going back to Bloodborne. I think it's that the last few areas of DS3 are quite weak. Though it could also be because I was playing a Pyromancer, and just throwing fireballs from a safe distance made things too trivial. When I replay on PC, I'll be playing as a Knight.

Every time you kill a Mimic, there's a random chance of it dropping (in addition to what the Mimic would usually drop). It will always drop on the very last Mimic if you still haven't received it up to that point.

As mentioned above, you can keep putting them to sleep with Undead Hunter Charms, though I did that with about 25 charms and had no success. I just got it from a random drop close to the end of the game.

What are the Purple Mad Phantoms that I encountered when playing offline? I could summon one in the Farron Swamp and he attacked me immediately. He was a bitch, killed me 5 times (lost 5 Embers) on NG+.

He did not left anything (no Covenant item) and gave like 1000 Souls so waste of my time.

I'm actually surprised in that this is one of the few Souls games without it. Demon's had it, Dark 1 had it, Bloodborne had it. I don't remember if 2 had it or not. I actually expected it in the catacombs and was quite surprised when it didn't.
DS2 had it and in a boss fight no less. I actually miss the Necromancers, I feel a bit short changed by not having them in.

Somebody in the Mound Maker covenant. When they're summoned, they can attack regular enemies, the host, and other summoned people/invaders. So basically, they can choose to be either friendly or hostile.

If you pass through a boss fog door, they disappear, so they can't help you with bosses (or fuck you over while you're attempting one).

I'm never going to summon one, as I don't see the point. Why would I trust a Mound Maker when I could summon somebody who can't attack me?

Shoulda paid the souls to make all NPCs friendly again, man!

Sunlight Spear does so much damage at 60 Faith and with the Firstborn ring. No one is ever ready to eat one at melee range. The lowest I've seen it do is 1200 damage and that's with only a +9 Sunlight Talisman.

That feeling when you one-shot an invader from behind with your Soul Spear.

But I was 100% offline - it couldn't be a real player from the Covenant. Was it like a Red Phantom (but summonable at will) from previous games?

There isn't. The weapon was slightly buffed with a patch but it's still useless.

You have to go through 2 or even 3 different defenses (physical+fire+magic), and the scaling is so bad that you have to do a build only around them, and still they underperform even with high AR because of the split damage.

The worst part is the weapon art, it's cool and stuns a lot but the damage is terrible. You actually do more damage with 2 R1 hits for half the time it takes to do the full art.

Pair all of this with a slow as fuck L1 (the only thing that does some kind of damage) and you get a weapon that it's broken beyond repair.

It wasn't a real player. Know you can summon an npc moundmaker in at least one spot. He does hit hard as fuck too, I think he 1 shot me from full health on ng+. The same guy will just invade you in the Undead Settlement and hes part of some other characters quest, along with being the person you get into the mound makers from. He gets around.

I had no idea you could dual wield caestus and it's so powerful.
I discovered it by accident when I decided to put a caestus in my off hand for parries (because for some reason you can't parry with your bare hands in this game) and when maintained triangle button pushed I found myself dual wielding them. I was like WTF so I tried them on a red eye knight in NG+4 with only 19 str and 18 dex and pummeled him to death. I was baffled so I went fighting the dancer (whom I couldn't beat in this run for some reason) and I was able to beat her in my first try. Holy shit.

You summon them if you're feeling dangerous or want a bodyguard in a pinch for the pvp areas or if you've been invaded. Mound makers can fulfill their duty without having to kill the host, that's merely the fastest option
