So the starters have their own thread, but I don't see much talk about the gorgeous new legendary Pokémon that were unveiled in the same trailer yesterday:
Previously, there were trademark registrations for “Solgaleo” (ソルガレオ
and “Lunaala” (ルナアーラ. I'm guessing these are the names of the Sun and Moon legendaries, respectively?
At any rate, the sun lion and moon bat both look FANTASTIC, imo. I immediately liked the sun lion, but the more I look at the moon bat, the more I like her, too. (You can't see it on the box art, but her lower extremities are a crescent-shaped tail, creating a three-pronged silhouette similar to Yveltal.)
Both have beautiful color schemes. There's a nice contrast between the lion's rugged masculinity (i.e. the bulky silhouette) and the bat's delicate femininity (i.e. the slender physique and intricate design). I also like how their eyes are the opposite version's color (blue eyes on the lion and red eyes on the bat), and how their faces are like windows into outer space, with stars moving within. They also both have gold accents that provide another thematic link.
A cool detail about the moon bat is how it attacks. In the trailer, we see a half-dozen beams of light shooting from the star-shaped ornaments on its wings, converging on a single point into a super-laser, Death Star-style. Neat! I wonder what the lion's signature move will be like?
Some questions to consider:
- What might their types be? Fire for the lion, and Dark or Fairy for the bat? What about a second type?
- What might they be based on? For example, the Kalos trio are based on Norse mythology; the Hoenn trio are based on biblical myth.
- What might their third counterpart be? Perhaps something embodying the Earth?
- And of course: Which legendary makes you most HYPE?
