Jose Mourinho to take over Manchester United

Do Man Utd really want a manager who probably thinks he's bigger than the club?

We had one who ruled the club as his own personal kingdom for 20+ years. United will have no problem accommodating that sort of manager.

What I'm more worried about is Ferguson sticking his oar in at every opportunity trying to undermine Mourinho.

I'm ok with it, not particularly excited or thrilled, just bring it on I guess. My immediate concerns are what happens with Mata and whether or not Mourinho will stick with playing the academy players. This season particularly has shown a bit of a resurgence with academy players that can hold their own in the first team and show some promise like Lingard, Rashford, Botwick Jackson, Fosu Mensah etc. I don't like the idea of Mourinho coming in and sending them out on loan. Maybe that's something he will agree to as being manager, we'll see.

It is an absolute disgrace Van Gaal is being let off so quickly after the FA Cup win. Here's a club that hires him to clean up a mess of their own making, let him bear the majority of the criticism without publicly supporting him and when he wins a trophy, bam you're out the door. Van Gaal deserves some criticism but equally doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. The way upper management has handled things lately is abysmal.

what absolute bowshang, £250 million pounds to do as he pleased, the result, humiliated in the CL, knocked out by Liver -fucking-pool in the Europa, worst goal tally in the last 50 years, some of the most turgid, coma-inducing, soul sucking football we have yet witnessed, all this by March.... and then loosing out on top 4, I don't care that we limped over the line to beat Crystal Palace in the Cup, He was lucky to have been given the amount of time he was.

Imagine flushing so much investment down the toilet and still having the gal to demand to see out your contract

It's wrong that it leaked on the day, but given today is 2 days later this is kind of normal. Club will now want the replacement in asap to begin on training and planning right away. In technical terms there is no point in keeping LVG around any longer. As sad as that may seem to some. I do agree I wish he had the weekend to avoid the reports.

The rumours in that report on the last page are more worrying. Totally alienating players and treating them like terribly in regards to self expression.

Like I said, definitely deserves criticism and the sacking is the right decision in the end, my issue is with the timing of the announcement. He's just won a trophy when the news of his sacking came out. This would make it the second time in a row United have sacked someone whilst telling the press literally day(s) before telling the manager themselves. Zero class.

In this case it was said to be Mourinhos camp who leaked this. Just saying.

Giggs also leaving. Paving the way for Zlatan as assistance manager.

Apparently an announcement at 1pm.

Sad about Giggs but fly your wings legend. Best to go and manage in a lower league and one day come back to United if you prove your managerial skills.

Lol he hasn't he even started yet and the twattery has already begun. Have fun.

I just want the club performing better and getting the squad sorted. Don't really care about how rival fans view or insult the hierarchy. I'll be happy to admit it's all wrong if it goes all wrong but right now after living with LVG for 2 years anything seems like a little optimism.

Probably signed a multi year contract and gets fat stacks of cash once he's inevitably sacked.

5m payoff apparently. Drop in the ocean compared to a 250m spend.

It was Mendez's people who leaked the agreement, not Man Utd.

All staff except Giggs apparently

LVG gone, ditto Frans Hoek, Albert Stuivenberg and Max Reckers. Were told of their fate at Carrington this morning.

I found this tweet funny

Mourinho at Man U is like Donald Trump in charge at the White House. Disaster. Why not Giggs?!

But in all seriousness Giggs while a legend is just not proven enough as a manager.

It's also funny watching United fans creaming themselves over Mourinho after spending years abusing him. Even went as far as pretending they preferred moyes over Mourinho with that silly chosenone banner. Anyway, enjoy him. I still think he's lost some of that magic he had earlier on.

I saw just as many that wanted Mou to replace SAF.

It's easier to single out some of the fan base and apply that to all. With such a big fan base pushing an agenda on the fans is easy pickings.

As the tweet above shows there will be some against this, some for. Football politics, it's always a diverse melting pot.

Sacking is now final according to the BBC.

I mean, they could have gotten someone who has the same philosophy of the club, who will give youth a chance, who's not an outsider who thinks he's above the club. Look at Real. Look at all the past Barcelona managers.

Instead, they've gotten a proven manager just to get direct results.

Well the club is paranoid they slip further and further away from glory. Waiting 5~10 years for the next trophy during a "rebuild". This is yet another huge gamble, but it's Man Utds mess to get further into if it doesn't pay off. Missing out on CL football was a real blow for the club, especially considering the business side and stupid amounts of sponsorship deals.

All in all I just wish Fergie had stayed on a few more years. However time to see if Mou really loves Fergie as much as he proclaimed. Certainly a chance to be more lovey dovey than Mou with Roman Abramovich. Although the Glazers are a whole different scenario of scum.

Also the potential issue with foreign managers with no EPL experience is how they adapt. Big tests for Man City and Chelsea incoming.

Best man for the job, unfortunately. Think Chelsea will be kicking themselves in the not too distant future.
You do realize he was about to relegate the club right? He was given enough chances to turn it around and we were still shit.

Honestly, he'll do well at United. Hopefully he's learnt from the mistakes of his last season at Chelsea. That was an enormous fuck-up of player and stuff management.

It certainly was. As long as he can manage to do this again United fans will warm to him

I have to say I feel sorry for Van Gaal. Yeah the football was awful and he deserved to go but Man united have handled it terribly. It was the same with Moyes. Mourinho will definitely win trophies but hopefully he isn't a complete cunt while doing so. That shit with the doctor was shameful.

I am only one United fan but I have always been an admirer of Mourinho. You can even find it on my post history in this forum.

The leak was shoddy, but apparently from Mendez. Man Utd themselves gave LVG a whole season and a cup game where fans and media alike were screaming for a sack in December. If LVG was at certain other clubs he'd have been sacked in December, or like at City told he was leaving and JM announced well before now. LVG kept breaking club records along the way, the wrong ones. Clubs winning at Old Trafford for the first time in tens of years, back to back to back defeats, etc. Still Woodward gave him the whole season.

All in, I don't know how Man Utd have handled it terribly. If people want to keep pointing to the leak, at least accept where it came from.

the philosophy of the club is winning, period. The last few years of Fergie's reign wasn't all that pretty to watch either, post-Ronaldo (anyone who watched that period will co-sign that) and he relied on vets like RVP to lead us to a league title. Giving the youth a chance? SAF practically pushed Pogba out to Juve lmao.

In a perfect world, United would be about giving youth a shot (like we are now) and playing an attacking style with an emphasis on solid defense and pacey wingers/forwards (like we have now in Martial/Rashford). But it doesn't always work out that way.

And this idea that United supporters didn't ever want Mourinho is stupid. If you asked the majority who they preferred between Mourinho or fucking Moyes or LVG, I'm certain they'd pick Mou. He may be a prick at times, but he can manage his ass off and is a proven winner wherever he goes. And that's what matters.

United will be fine and this was a great move. People just look for any opportunity to dump on the club, which is expected when you so thoroughly dominate the league for a good decade-plus. I think Mou is in it for the long haul as he doesn't have meddling owners/presidents hovering over him, a patient board/support, and the only sort of comparable clubs he can move on to (Barca/Real/Bayern/Chelsea/City/PSG/etc) he has already burned bridges with/wouldn't want him. It's an ideal situation for both parties and can't wait to see him improve the squad with solid transfers this summer.

Signing Zlatan on a free would a solid start. ;)

If he was already going to be sacked I don't kn ow why Mendez needed to leak it. Mourinho's camp have acted awfully throughout the season too.

Giving youth a chance has almost turned into a bullet point for fans at clubs, rather than a genuine discussion about what it means. Most managers go abroad these days for recruitment. I'm as giddy about the prospect of nurturing home grown youth as anyone else but lets not blow it out of proportion to what really happens at most clubs, even United. Spurs are by far the best bunch at it just now anyway.

Pogba was Fergies biggest nightmare. What a loss.

I'm happy Rashford looks amazing, but even with youth it's shown LVG wasn't the right man. I do hope JM keeps some of the younger talent we have just now, but I'm not going to be naive and say we don't need to go into the transfer market. We do.

All of us getting boners at our average age 22 squads in Football Manager 2016 doesn't correlate to how it works in the real world. You need leaders and experience in the EPL.

If he was already going to be sacked I don't kn ow why Mendez needed to leak it. Mourinho's camp have acted awfully throughout the season too.

My guesses excited to get it announced as soon as LVG finished his last game. Or putting the pressure on United not to do a u-turn and keep LVG due to the cup win, or think of Giggs due to the fans getting a trophy to paper over the cracks. A power play really.

Yes, that was how Ferguson was successful.

But Fergie for the most part was clearly welcoming to players speaking to him (besides shooting down those who thought they were bigger than the club). LVG sounded like a dictator in training and squad management.

I think this a very valid point to make. At Chelsea. it was Roman and at Madrid it was Perez but at Manchester, he doesn't have such type figure instructing him who to be signed

Hopefully it stays that way, although some fans have been calling for a director of football due to how shit Ed Woodward is at handling transfers. Fergie and David Gill along with the scouting staff were a dream.

Still a second tier league.

Bundesliga fan?

I jest, but I only recently was made aware of the seemingly crazy arguments that come up on GAF of the Bundesliga vs the EPL. German GAF and BritGAF going AT IT! I would have said EnglishGAF but I'm a Scottish United fan and want to be included <3

Also add Unai Emery to that list.

He is coming to Everton.

Bookmark this quote!

They gonna need to pay a massive amount of his wage as well if that ever happened... unless Usmanov is a lock to come on board.

I still don't know where the idea of Usmanov coming here stems from, considering he has a huge stakes at Arsenal.

He ain't coming.
