Lol at slashing away being just as effective. Guy has no clue what he's talking about.

Yeah. There are a number of legitimate criticisms with the game (and every single game), but he seems to think driving a nail with his forehead works, so screw finding a better, or different way to do it.

There's something called an auto gearbox.... bad analogy.

Automatic gear box... don't even remind me this horrible invention exists - the one time I was forced to use it during my time in the States, I almost caused an accident on a highway, when I forgot there are only two pedals and attempted to use my clutch at > 60mph in heavy traffic ))

As for the rest - well, if you find quen-hit-hit-roll the most efficient & satisfactory way of playing the game, we have completely different taste & I doubt this discussion is going anywhere, especially that I don't really understand what is so clunky about signs & bombs (were u playing on a console? - that might explain a bit, as having to use the signs wheel generally sucks).

Anyway DLCs have much more interesting enemies then the main game so, I'm actually looking forward to ... snare tremolo ... combat. Cheers!

Explain the mechanics, cool story man. What's the point of a bomb when slashing away is just as effective. For the record, I don't even use Quen.

This post reeks of you not playing the game. Setting a human on fire before you attack them is way more efficient than just pressing attack and having them block you until they decide to stop. Or crossbowing a harpy out of the sky and insta killing instead of just waiting around for it to land. Or using yrden on a wraith so it's in slow mo, resulting in greater intervals between its teleporting. In fact yrden is great on most things if you can cast it. Why WOULDN'T you at least be casting yrden and quen and shit. It's armor and making enemies slow. Instant cast. There's no reason to not be using his tools lol.

Sooooo, I didn't play the last DLC. I want to though, before this one!

I tried playing Hearts of Stone with my completed Witcher saved, but the first frog boss completely whooped my ass. Is it cool to play that DLC with the save they include?

You can play the DLC with the save, but the toad boss isn't that bad. You can wreck him by using alternate Yrden which stuns him. Keep Quen up when you can. Then use the Tawny Owl potion if you need faster stamina regen. Then Cursed oil for extra damage.

Just lower the difficulty if needed, HoS is an amazing expansion. You're missing out if you don't play through it. The Frog is very vulnerable to fire so use Dancing Star bombs and Igni along with well timed melee strikes, it's not too bad.

One more question that's probably better served for OT but I got near the end of the game then kinda lost interest. I started a new playthrough recently to try to do a complete playthrough of the game + both DLCs but roughly how long would it take for me to get back around to the end of the game.

Any good build/combat guides? I was and am completely lost and that kinda hindered my enjoyment of the game.

Atleast 80 hours for the base game and 30 for the expansions (like I said, atleast).

Just do a mix of swordsman and magic.

You can do them in half that time, unless you want to explore every nook and cranny and/or hate quick travel.

Not really. Story, sidemissions and with exploration for better armor, swords, gwent etc. can take that much time. I played over 120 hours of the base game and 15-17 hours of first expansion and I havent done everything (collecting).

Ofcourse, if one wants to rush through the story missions then it will be half of that time. But where is the fun in that.

I did my first run of the game in ~43 hours and I did every sidequest that was my level and collected a set of mastercrafted armor. Though I did ignore gwent completely.

Every side quest that's your level? That rules out like 80% of them. You -quickly- pass up all your quests in level if you're doing even half the content thrown your way. By level 20 all my quests were in the 8-15 range.

Speaking of which, anyone know if the enemy scaling option made it into the game? Last i heard it was "possible" but unconfirmed.

Gotta be one of these two.

They haven't discussed it formally anywhere than some German preview video but according to reviewers it's 100% in. The scaling option basically raises the lower limit of enemy levels, so you'll always have a good challenge, but can also be outmatched by high level beasts.

...you do know it's possible for people to enjoy the combat? It's a possibility. I like it quite a bit.
It's most certainly an acquired taste.

I think one of the best angles to take is to lean on signs/potions and not just being great at action. It's a little too, uhh, automated for that to try to master like a character action or Souls game, so taking the prep angle is probably better. Though, the animation of that attack...

So I just started replaying the Witcher 3, inspired by some Ultra wide images on reddit, and my shiny new 21:9 34 inch monitor....

This is the best looking game on the planet, PERIOD.

For those who watched Conan's Clueless Gamer episode might recognize the term.

Yeah, I skipped gray quests if they were not in my way.
