Because her toolset isn't fit for competitive and she has too many Counters.

She is also slow and has no range with her one range ability taking too Long to kill/hit anyone.

Remember that pro Players Play on a completely different Level.
We are talking widowmakers who hit every shot with a headshot.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

So right now. Who are looking like they'll be at the top of this games meta? If what you say about Widow is true, then surely Winston is up there at well?

Just ordered the game. It's been quite a while since i've bought a game near-launch that wasn't something i already wanted months in advance, i wasn't really interested in this at first but the beta was great. I just hope i can get at least 40 hours of gameplay out of it and don't get bored of it fast.

I'm not actually sure that Overwatch ranking site works properly. Says I'm really high as Mei, and while yes, I think I do okay, it's only that. Also it says I've died 35000 times. Which, you know. I haven't.

Anyone getting weird stuttering? Framerate is always well over 60 (tested without vsync). Have vsync forced to triple buffering through nvidia control panel and I've capped the framerate with an external program to 60. This has been my golden ticket to solve stuttering with every game in the past. But nothing is helping for this one :(

Winston, Genji, Mcree, Mercy, Widowmaker, Tracer are sort of the Bread and Butter it seems like so far. You'll see those characters quite a lot.

Top 6 picks, in order:

  1. Lucio
  2. McCree
  3. Winston
  4. Mercy
  5. Tracer
  6. Reinhardt

http://www.planetoverwatch.org/11-overwatch-hero-meta-report-the-grand-beta-review

Bottom six, from the lowest:

  1. Mei
  2. Hanzo
  3. Hog
  4. Bastion
  5. Torb
  6. DVa

edit: It should be noted that a reason for Lucio and Winston being very high is that a double-up strat for both characters is exceptionally strong, meaning they see a lot of 2-team use.

There was a chart on Reddit the other day about competitive picks and the top were Lucio, McCree, Winston, Mercy, Reinhart, Tracer, Widowmaker then a big drop off of other picks.

I hope it's a while before I get good enough at this game to start being annoyed by what my team is doing/not doing. That's usually when I check out when playing with randos.

What I mean is, Mei is a close-range, anti-flanking fighter that defends the point and stops light or slow targets like Genji, D. Va, Zenyatta, and Mercy. She uses her icicles to do decent damage at mid-long range. Her ice walls funnel and divide the enemy team and screw with their line of sight. She loses to snipers, Pharah, and Reaper almost guaranteed, and has no answer for Tracer, who can shut her down entirely if the team doesn't have someone to handle Tracer.

McCree can do the close range fighting better and takes down a wider variety of targets, AND his left click is about on-par with the icicle. Winston takes down fast characters like Genji and Tracer much more easily, is a great counter to Reaper, can jump up in snipers' faces, and can disrupt the enemy team even more than Mei can if he's doing his job right. I'd rather have a good Winston or McCree on my team than a good Mei, just for versatility.

No Mei can do it herself just fine, that's how I fight Tracer btw, and if it goes wrong then icewall and there's no way for Tracer to destroy a single part before it melts by itself, she's fine as it is, but the contest point on payload that still remains active in ice block form? now this should be removed asap, it's unfair, unless the iceblock breaks once it reaches a certain amount of damages, that would be better imo.

Man, just had some great games back to back in pubs. Teams were mostly competent too.

Finally learning match ups and making counter switches when appropriate. God I love this game.

how you supposed to kill shit with winston? feel like all i can do is annoy people

Go for the squishies. There isn't much healers can do if you leap behind the team and harass them. If everyone turns back to defend them then your team can push forward and you can hopefully get back out.

Yes, Tracer is really easy to hit with an Icicle when she runs in a straight line at you.

Posted yet? Map callouts for Overwatch:

http://onehitclub.com/2016/02/24/map-callouts-and-their-importance/

Dunno if these specifically will be adopted, but it'll be nice when people start getting used to calling areas instead of just vague directions. :p
That's one nice thing about CSGO -- if you do a voice emote (the equivalent of "I need healing" or whatever), it will automatically put the area of the map in the chat line.

So in Overwatch they could do something like "(Upper Bank) [Player]: Group on me".

Your aim with Winston shouldn't be so much to kill, but to harass and pick off the stragglers. Pressure by leaping in and out, planting your Barrier early as to not actually trap them in the bubble. Get the ones with thicker skins to back off so your DPS can clean them out.

Your kills will come from surprising squishier characters. Spot characters like Tracer, Mercy, Hanzo and Widowmaker, leap in and chase them down. As soon as you get the damage you need, leap back to the group.

When you have your ultimate, that's when you can take a risk. Leap in, plant the barrier, do what you can and when you get down to 100 health or less, pop the ultimate and start pushing them back. Again, you're not looking for kills, you're just looking to smack people away from the objective/payload. Your leap resets when you activate the ultimate, and when it ends, so once it starts winding down, survey the area and plan your leap back to the group.

Learning when to engage and not over-extending is the key to Winston. You really need to do everything you can to stay alive so you can be in position to protect key players with the barrier.

Feels too early in the games life to categorically state anything really, even for "pro" players.

So, how many heroes does everyone think most people should play ideally?

I'm enjoying Soldier, Pharah, Bastion, D.Va, Reinhardt, Mercy and Zenyatta at the moment, which I feel is a good spread across the archetypes.

I've learned that I can't snipe (thanks for that legendary Widowmaker skin, Blizzard) or build strategically worth a damn, so I'm a bit lacking when it comes to defense heroes, but there's never a shortage of snipers out there to cover that role anyway.

I like Tracer and Genji as well, but there's usually someone better than me willing to play those roles and I'm a lot more effective as Soldier or Pharah anyway.

I play every single hero besides Zarya and Mei who I just can't figure out their metals

It all depends on the map, and team setup and what heroes everyone else is playing, although my big problem right now is not counter picking well enough in the middle of the gameplay

Yeah, in the end, it all depends on players' reactions/awareness...and lucky shots, Pharah is the hero to go against her imo, just drop her off the map while she turns into an iceblock, fun stuff.
