Is Destiny: Rise of Iron the next Destiny Expansion?

Destiny has been content light since it launched. Players have settled with whatever they've offered and now that's the norm. When the game launched j actually thought that each expansion would add a new planet. That seemed fair a the time. Now I expect a couple of missions and maybe a raid that won't be as good and expansive as VoG

This is the Taken King sized expansion in september. Kings fall absolutely ruins Vault of Glass in every aspect it's just a better Raid period.

It needs to be a new location. I'm so sick of expansions just adding new rooms to existing locations.

Whats the difference between a new location and existing locations getting more content? Unless you are talking about scale and if you are then this is the Taken King sized expansion that should be fairly large.

Looks PVP related. Some spin off of Iron Banner maybe?

Nvm guess it's an "expansion"

Oh it's one of those weird posts that comment on the current state of destiny without knowing anything about the current state of destiny. Did you play the TTK

Looking at the same environment over and over can get boring no matter what content is within it.

Pipe dream, but I always wish they incorporated the lore into expansions--like, let us "replay" historical battles, or turn them into raids.

Saladin, for example:

His most famous moment came during the infamous Battle of Twilight Gap when he led the City's forces to a hard-won victory over the combined forces of the Fallen Houses.

Both Lord Shaxx and Commander Zavala were his students, but his relationship with Lord Shaxx became strained following the battle. He later helped found the Iron Banner in honor of the original Iron Lords to seek out great champions to fight off The Darkness.

Battle of Twilight Gap raid, where NPCs Saladin, Shaxx, and Zavala fight side-by-side with you at certain points? yes plz

.

The problem with kingsfall raid is its just mechanics with bosses, you a not really fighting hoards of enemies with gunplay.

VOG hand allot of good gunplay fights and why it was considered one of the better raids - VOG with the cheeses fixed would be the best example of a raid.

Lets do some Old Russia world events for materials- Destiny
Lets do some Old Russia world events to hunt Crota's Army- Destiny TDB
Lets do some Old Russia world events to hunt the Wolves- Destiny HoW
Lets do some Old Russia world events to hunt the Taken - DestinyTTK

Three Expansions and no new type of enemies still.

I just got burnt up to do actitivies on the same areas, killing the same enemies, of course in TTK the enemies have different abilities but the enemies are the same but in black goo

Not another penny from me on anything Destiny 1 related. Bring Destiny 2 correct, and I'll be there.

I see nothing but lies in this post. You'll be back. JK

I won't return until they apologize for what they've done to the warlocks. Now that injustice must be righted before they see a penny from me. I'm still interested in seeing what this expansion includes though

Ah, this must be the one where they explain why the Fallen, who are aliens, know about wolves and use wolf idioms.

So I get that you're probably joking, but "wolf" is the closest translation (plus artistic license) to whatever made up word the Fallen actually use - its like how the Millennium Falcon isn't named after a literal thousand year old space falcon.

Maybe there is some kind of space wolf on their planet? who knows? But its definitely not earth wolves they're referring to.

Delay the game by a year.
Build expansion from scratch to pad that time out.
New director...

How fucked was Destiny 2 to make them do this?

well for a game that's meant to be live for several years, and then you realize you're going to miss a big content update, you gotta get something made to keep players attached until said big content update. also you gotta keep making money to fund said update.

The rumors for the content of this expansion points to stuff that was cut or tossed to the side in the past. First rumor was the stuff High Moon had done on Mars, now it seems like they've resurrected the scrapped Fallen raid that was supposed to be released with House of Wolves. So, I doubt they're building much from scratch for this expansion.

Resident Evil 2 was basically scrapped mid-development because they didn't think it was good enough of a game. Its a mark of a good studio, though also maybe a lack of initial planning.

Better you get someone with a vision to see it through then release a broken shell of a game (vanilla Destiny, lol)

But The Taken King introduced a whole new location. What leads you to believe that, if Rise of Iron is another full $40 paid expansion, that it won't do the same?

I played it. Everything he said is true.

At this point I'd rather they just focus all resources on d2 but I guess this is being done by high moon. Maybe some fresh eyes on it will be an improvement.

The article has been updated and it states the raid is new and development on it was started last summer. Mars stuff also still slated for D2 according to Jason Schreier's twitter.

Why not make old raids relevant again? For instance, make Crota's End worth playing with chances at Y2 gear. In fact, for me, updating all old content would almost obviate the need for new content. Not that I would complain with a new expansionorm either...To be fair though, I haven't put nearly as many hours into the game as many here.

I can't keep myself from thinking of this as the Return On Investment expansion ;p

More Destiny is a good thing in my book, but I don't believe any reports about the "size" of Destiny expansions. The first two expansions were tiny, and even the Taken King seemed paltry to me for the $40 price tag.

I still love the underlying gameplay a ton, so I'll still hold out hope that Bungie can figure out how to satisfy the hunger their audience has for more and more content.

And fucking RAID matchmaking / in-game LFG already. Its beyond silly at this point as even the LFG site doesn't cut it.

Given what I've read, it almost has to be earth-based; and revolve around the last city...Wherever that is.

More like how fucked was Destiny to make them do this. Look at the amount of work it took to get Destiny to a decent place after release, and then imagine how that would force them to alter their plans for a Destiny sequel.

The fact that they are revealing this on Thursday ( June 9th ) gives me hope they will reveal/tease Destiny 2 at e3.

I'm hoping D2 just needed more time to be NEOfied, polished and give time to develop the foundations of the expansions ( like Y1 )

You might get a tease at the end of a Rise of Iron trailer or something but don't expect anything more than that.

I think one of the reasons is that a lot of the old gear, specifically the primary weapons, had elemental damage on them, something they have moved away from since then.

Nope. It's been debunked on Twitter. D2 coming Fall 2017. Expect a 2017 reveal probably around next e3.

Nope, E3 would be the time to show off more of RoI. Thursday will not show everything. They did the same thing last year with TTK.

Call me when there's a PC port...

EDIT SO IT'S NOT ENTIRELY A DRIVE BY PORT BEG: I mean, seriously, it's been what, 3 years now? It's about time, and it was initially planned. it'd at least give bungie the boost in subscribers it needs to stay afloat until D2 arrives.

And Yes, I have D1 and all the expansions. I love the game, but like many others, just completely burned out on it's content.
