YES PLEASE.

It could have been an April Fool's Day prank ... Joss Whedon's name popping up as the possible director of Marvel's long-in-the-planning "Avengers" movie. But then it was on MTV, and Flickcast did a little digging, and Screen Rant, with many following IESB -- who did their best to make it sound real amidst other April Fool's Day hoaxes. Could this be? After some checking, insiders at Marvel Studios say no director has been signed yet but that Whedon was on the short-list and conversations took place. This could be promising, Whedonites.

The idea of Joss Whedon directing Robert Downey Jr. makes me happy in the pants.

Not to shit up the thread. But Dollhouse was a disappointment. I don't trust him anymore.

Season 1, maybe, though there were a couple great episodes. But season 2 was fantastic.

I've enjoyed all his recent work, so this sounds good to me. Although I don't know about him handling someone elses IP.

Hell no. I do not like this. His run on x-men despite being proclaimed to be good, is one that i just passed over. He needs to stick to his own whedonverse

If the show didn't have Eliza Dushku I probably would have liked the show more.

Whedon's directorial stylings would fit something like The Avengers pretty well. Just as long as he doesn't write it.

But if Whedon should be writing/directing any movie, it's Astonishing X-Men.

He has one of the greatest runs on X-Men ever. I think he's fine with handling someone else's IP, let alone The Avengers.

Hold on, so you're saying "hell no" because you didn't read his run on X-Men but you know it's proclaimed to be good? That makes zero sense.

I think it would be a good choice. His run on Astonishing X-Men was fantastic and it really showed that he understands comic teams. And although that's no reason to think he could direct an Avengers movie, his past film/tv work doesn't make him any less capable than anyone else that would land the job. Jon Favreau anyone?

Put me in the 'could be really fun' camp.

Amen.

Btw what happened to the Ant Man movie project? I guess it has been canned. So far the Avengers line up would be Cap, Thor, Iron Man, maybe Hulk. A bit thin I think.

I'd rather him do a fuckin' buffy movie.

Sarah Michelle Gellar would never do that.

No thank you. I love firefly but I'd rather them use Jon Favreau.

Pretty sure Favreau said he wasn't going to do it, so that rules that out.

There was another Buffy movie before the tv show and SMG.

That movie was terrible. Joss would never do a Buffy movie with someone else playing Buffy.

Remember, they're introducing Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Odds are they would also introduce a character or two in the movie itself. Hawkeye is a safe bet. And hopefully he's played by Jensen Ackles, as he was in the running for Cap. He'd make the perfect Hawkeye.

Why are people excited about this?

From a business standpoint, Joss Whedon should not be given the keys to a multimillion dollar potential franchise.

From a creative standpoint, Joss Whedon should not be given the keys to a multimillion dollar potential franchise.

Joss Whedon is a worn out, hydrocephelatic hack. Get someone young and new.

There has been talk of other Buffyverse movies... I know they wanted to do a Spike movie but it got cancelled supposedly due to financial problems.

Jensen Ackles? Fuck no. Now that I think of it, Chris Evans would have been the perfect Hawkeye. Missed opportunity.

I guess its not fair to say i completely passed over it. I read a few chapters and left it. Then came back during cyclops depowerment and realized that nothings changed.

He's 4 for 4 in terms of awesome TV shows, I have no reason to doubt Joss. I hope this pans out.

S2 Dollhouse had Belonging. Which is probably in my top 5 Whedon episodes ever.

At this point, you can tell the people who just say things to get a reaction. But I'll humor Sapiens.

It's The Avengers. Do you honestly think from a business standpoint, Joss Whedon directing it would somehow hurt how well it does? Dumbest thing typed in the thread.

Why fuck no? He'd be the perfect Hawkeye. All you have to do is watch him on Supernatural to see that.

There hasn't been real talk of Buffy movies since that made-for-TV Spike one after Angel got canceled. Except for a Buffy reboot that was being thrown around about a year ago that wouldn't have Whedon involved at all.

This would be a great fit. Serenity proved he can handle a movie like this, and his run on X-Men proved he understands comic characters.

I would hope he writes as well? Do they already have a script?

Movie goers have shown time and time again that the director does not affect the grossing of a debut movie based on a comic book franchise.

Saw the dude on Smallville. 'Nuff said.

They already have a script, yeah. So he would just be directing, though I'm positive his input would be felt on the script.

As far as directing goes though, you're right about Serenity. That proved he can do a film and now he'd have a much bigger budget in a world that we already know he can do well.

I love how age and experience can somehow become negatives. Well played.

In a perfect world yes.

Why's that? She isn't exactly tearing up the box office with hit after hit.

She just comes off as very anti-Buffy. One of those actors who tries desperately to leave the thing that made her who she is today in her past.

Back when they were doing the animated series that never got off the ground, she was the only cast member who said she wouldn't do her own voice. Everyone else, even David Boreanez, said they would.

I'd love to be wrong of course but I don't see it happening. The Buffy season 8 comic (and soon season 9) are probably the closest we'll get.

Apparently Edgar Wright will be teaming up with Disney Pixar for the Ant Man project.

I guess you could say 'nuff said, seeing as you just showed you don't know what you're talking about with that comment.

He was on Smallville for one season and was given a TERRIBLE overly dramatic/whiny role. That's like saying Kristen Bell sucks in Veronica Mars because she was on Heroes.

Unless you've watched Supernatural (one of the best shows on TV right now), you really can't judge Ackles. He's got some nice range and plays the "smartass/hardheaded" part perfectly well.
