Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

I'm really enjoying what I've seen. It goes straight into the game, you're free to explore. There's more character customization so presumably more playstyles. Aonuma talked about a more indirect kind of storytelling which is something I always welcome. The world doesn't look particularly empty to me, not by open world standards, and it looks much better than the original reveal in that regard. (though this is only what they're showcasing)

climbing looks fantastic, could be the core feature of this game

I love exploration in open worlds and this games exploration looks stellar, I'm sold

also love the wood cutting and cooking, reminde me a lot of classic CRPGs, this could be a true highlight

Haven't been following the stream, but the trailer definitely gives off the vibe of their mission statement to bring the series back to its roots in free-form exploration. Looks gorgeous to boot, and the soundtrack piece is a refreshing departure from past titles.

Oh and link looks like a bamf in that armor. Need an amiibo stat

The early game footage is definitely reinforcing the idea of going anywhere you want, but I think there's a major caveat when comparing this game to Zelda 1. That game was pretty small overall in terms of the map, and even more importantly, each screen was packed with pretty fast paced action.

I don't mind exploration and being told to go off on your own, but the game world has to be packed in every direction with interesting gameplay. This seems, so far, a little too diluted to me.

I'd compare it a little bit to Mario 64's very small worlds giving way to Sunshine's much bigger worlds where the game design instantly fell apart.

I love the world design as something to look at, but I'm not sure about actually playing it yet (though some of the sandboxy stuff being shown now looks fun)

That bomb/sailcloth combo was a thing of beauty.

I'm okay with no exhaustive voice acting so long as there's a good balance between text/voice, otherwise it'd just get awkward like Ni No Kuni.

You should always judge whatever is available to you. The whole 'wait for more info if your impression is negative, let fly with the cheering if it's positive' is an asinine viewpoint to me.

Mmmmhmmm.

Based on what we have, I'm not impressed with the visuals either. Can't really speak about the game too much yet, but the console clearly isnt powerful to draw anything with any sort of detail beyond like 30 meters, which is why I think people are saying it looks empty. The LOD is just not very great. Up close, things look alright. And that's fine if you're not looking at a sprawling, open world. But when you're running around and you see the grass draw in right in front of you, it's... eh.

Nice trailer, man Link is such an asshole. Forest fires, attacking innocent goblins in various sadistic ways. Are we sure Link is really the hero in this one?

Yeah it really looked awful. I think nitendonis showing that their teams can't handle hd higher quality asset development. they should really just stick to phone portable quality assets in the future. I think they just aren't able to keep up. Big empty world and lots of blur.

I can't believe this is all they had to show and a bad looking game that isn't coming out for a year. This must be what it was like to be a Sega fan in 1997.

We get it. You hate it.

how much of this game have you seen? were you watching the stream, or just the trailer?

i'm at a loss as to how you could consider this a bad looking game.

far cry style different approaches to take out camps, including distractions, stealth, bombs
wtf
I love it

I came pretty close to predicting what the Sheikah Slate was:

That looks nice, but I'm disappointed that Link looks so decidedly masculine compared to the E3 trailer. I was sort of hoping they would give him a more gender neutral design.

Edit: You guys see a book? I see a smartphone strapped to Link's waist. Expect to be able to interact with Zelda NX using your smart devices.

Edit 2: Seriously.

I'm calling it now: that thing is a piece of ancient future technology, just like the mechanical beast seen in the trailer.

It's more like a tablet, but close enough. :)

That's interesting, to the left of the mini map there is a temperature gauge and a sound gauge. Maybe stealth is going to play a big part?

Still though. 'This Zelda will be so brand new!'

-Weapon durability
-Item stats
-Loot
-Crafting
-'Follow the point on your map'

Come the fuck on, you're playing catch up to a decade of open-world game design that you should have been at the forefront of with this series and you know it.

It's not the ingredients that makes a meal unique; it's the blending of them and how you cook them.

So many Debbie downers. Kind of ludicrous to be honest. The amount of overexaggeration over how bad it is, is just laughable. The game looks great and the subtitle is great.

It's actually pretty typical of The Zelda fanbase to overreact and say that the next installment of the series is the worse. It's rinse, and repeat for them.
