Wasn't going to buy this version and wait to upgrade my XB1 to the Scorpio... but it's actually the cheapest 4K Blu-ray player on the market now.

Hmmm.... well played.

So, i guess we can expect this to run much hotter than the larger box without the integrated PSU? Is there something they are doing to make sure this doesn't sound like a jet taking off?

If I could remember the last time I popped in a physical disc to watch a movie, this would be way more appealing, but I think I'll stick with my OG XB1 for the time being. Maybe if there's a $250 bundle on BF or something.

My main thing is I can't really justify a new TV now.

Streaming 4k content is a whole different beast than streaming 1080p content in terms of bandwidth. Streaming 4k just isn't going to be practical for many people, nor is it even widely available.

This feature (UHD drive) is for early adopters. By definition it will not appeal to the majority of the market at this time.

I have a 4k TV, but no HDR, so yeah, that too.

How do you watch 4k content? Or do you just go with the upscaling? Do you stream 4k?

I'm curious to see how UHD Blu-ray actually impacts the sales of this thing.

I know there are still a decent chunk of users that prefer bluray for quality reasons but I have to imagine the general trend is skewed towards streaming (yes I know streaming 4k is a terrible bitrate and all that)

White looks good. Probably put in white to differentiate from the OG Xbone on the store shelves. I am sure it will be in black by the holidays or at least spring of '17.

I'd take it in black now though...

I'm in the same boat. I got my 4K tv in 2014 before they start putting HDR in every tv. HDR offers a slight improvement from what my eyes can see. HDR basically makes the colors a little richer gives the picture more of a pop. Going from 1080p to native 4K is the cake, HDR is the icing on top. Not worth upgrading to if you already have a 4K tv

I think they will go all out with their marketing before Black Friday, "Now $249 cheapest way to get a current generation gaming console and 4K BR/Streaming". This "first to market with 4K BR" will be very useful. If Neo drops in 2016 with 4K as well, Microsoft can lower it by $50 during that launch phase. Not to mention that Neo will probably be $399, so you have that $150 difference.

I have a 4k tv with no HDR and could still tell a major difference when I streamed (4k) Daredevil on Netflix using the TVs app. I can't wait to pop in a UHD blu ray like The Martian when I get the S.

Deadpool and BvS Dawn of Justice will be purchased on 4K Blu Ray along with the S on the same day. Can't wait to watch those movies in native 4K

I only have a receiver with HDMI 1.4, but it decided Dolby trueHD and DTS master audio via HDMI. Without wanting a new receiver how will I get 4K to my TV and lossless audio to my receiver? can you get 4K HDMI splitters?

Id really like a release date for the 500gb

Mainly because I have 3 God damn custom controllers to order too.
My wife wants 2 of her own which is silly

I think I'm gonna switch the controller I use on my pc to the console and use the new Bluetooth stuff on my PC so I can unplug the adapter, free up a USB slot

I wish they put a mic on it in addition to the ir blaster. Then I could really ditch the kinect. Not interested in putting a headset on to use the voice commands

I think that MS decided not to implement a mic that users can't remove because of the possible backlash it would create. After the entire Kinect is spying on you thing a few years ago.

You can buy blu ray players with 2 hdmi outputs. One for audio and the other for video.

That's about it barring buying a new receiver.

Fucking ordered one, haven't I.

The white won't fit the rest of my kit, but I'm liking the look of it, and my long term plan is for it to be my second console (to the Scorpio) so it'll probably end up being on its own anyway.
