God of War details, in-depth RPG systems, No load screens, plus more

Watching it again it didn't look so bad. Throwing your axe to take out some dude, beat the shit out of another, pull your axe back, do that leaping combo while your kid sets up some arrow stuns...there's potential there, and the animations are pretty nice and enemy damage is cool. I think with more moves and weapons the combat will open up nicely.

Yeah the potential is great with the tools at his disposal but what they showed was like ninja theory levels of mediocre. I think I'm jumping the gun though. That's prolly so early in the game well before combos come in.

I think he'll have his own skill tree. Like you could upgrade him to be a better archer for support fire during combat, or make him better at crafting, or choose what kind of spells he learns.
I get that, but I mean.. if you just use him for tracking or scouting, crafting ect and dont use him for kombat, if he would become more cowardly or if you use him primarily for kombat he will become more like a rageaholic like his father. Im just curious if how you use him shapes his personality and not just his skills.

Yeah that is clearly the opening tutorial. Plus I can tell no one here actually read the article in the OP but Cory said they could have started with one of the epic fights everyone expects but they wanted to show there new direction they are taking with Kratos first and foremost

Seeing all these "I never cared about GOW, but now I'm interested" posts tell me all I need to know. Looks like SSM has gone out of their way to cater to the people that didn't even care about the franchise, while leaving the rest of us in the dust. I mean it makes sense from a business standpoint to follow the TLOU model but man does this suck for a longtime fan like myself. Crafting!? Full game escort mission? Lol. I just need them to confirm no MP to solidify my disapproval.

I'm sure this will be a good game, but this ain't God of War so I won't be buying.

Gonna buy used or rent. Sony's not getting a dime from me to support this.

Your opinion, but get a fucking grip. Change was needed. I'm a huge God Of War fan and I welcome this, as do many.

I think it looks MUCH different compared to the previous game! That's not bad though!

I really enjoyed God of War 1~3, but when I ended up the 3rd game I wasn't looking forward to more of it anymore. It became really too much the same for me, and for that same reason I didn't buy Ascension.

This one however is pretty much exactly what I was wanting to see in terms of gameplay changes, although I never believed it would ever happen! Loved every single bit of that demo, and am looking forward to it!

As long as I don't have to baby sit or the kid doesn't cause a game over screen cause he wandered off somewhere and died I'm totally ok with this.

This is the kind of thing that keeps me hooked in the videogame industry, Something we took for granted, we though we knew everything about, and santa monica comes and completely baffles us with this new direction.

I couldnt care less about god of war, now its one of my most antecipated games. If only gears of war and halo learned from this.

This and Zelda....different takes on established formulas.

I can dig it. Alot.

To be fair, DmC's shit tone really works against how great the gameplay is.

I didn't finish DmC, but its tone was the most interesting part of that game to me. It was over the top and DUMB in a way I could really get behind.

Then again, I think this game looks amazing, so what do I know?

If you wanted to play the same tired franchises over and over and over and over you bought the wrong system.

*sigh*

You can change up the gameplay without changing the genre. Ascension did it just fine. But I'll take my leave now, I'm sure y'all have had enough of my dissenting opinion.

Have Zero worry about combat and big set pieces, SMM are mater of them.
They want to show some story telling, intimate monment, I think they succeeded in the demo
Very emotional at the deer killing scene, orchestra help a little thou.

I dont really agree with that though. Ascention didnt change it up enough. It felt like the same ol GOW. Not thats its neccesarily a bad thing because the games were fantastic. I just think it really needed a shakeup because it became stale.

This isn't the Kratos of old.

This was one of my favorite parts of the demo. I'm just really eager to see where this story goes and how Kratos evolves as a character as he tries to control all that rage.

Obviously just tutorial, sections, I think the gameplay will probably be deeper than previous games. And God Of War was just button mashing with rhythm timing after awhile, it go nowhere near the complexity or beauty of true action games like DMC. With the slower focus, I think Cory can and will accomplish something as deep and satisfying as the Souls games. He knows what's up!

Seems like probably a bit overdramatic but he has a point. Why is there crafting in an action game? While I do love RPGs, I don't want every genre to turn into hybrid of them. I'm going to wait a while before I come to any conclusions. Almost everything other this turning into an action RPG sounds amazing though. I want an action game.

I'm fucking in.

Both Horizon and this are going to be mine. Waiting on the steam sale to pick up Witcher 3 and I already have bloodborne. Will probably pick up Overwatch as my main multiplayer game with Uncharted 4

So much good shit coming up to play through after Uncharted 4 for me.

Considering going on a setpiece blackout for this game like I did with Uncharted 4. It was rough but totally worth it.

I'm a huge GOW fan and this change of pace + aesthetic has most certainly revitalized my interest in the series.

Aaawww, the developers seem to be very proud of their new child, even making a game revolving around father/son relationship.

Norse mitology? that sounds refreshing i was getting really tired of the old Greek Gods.

From what we saw of the demo I am actually excited most about a more mature Kratos, the angry killing everything Kratos was fun for 1 and 2, but by 3 I really started hating him.

this game goes in an entirely different direction than DmC, tone/character wise, going for a more "mature" bonding tone over the juvenile generic rage before, the execution remains to be seen but overall looks exciting!

The combat doesn't look anything like the previous GoW games (for worse)
Go back and look at how GOW opened up with the basic chains. All you can do is one-two-three and one-two-three-pause-four attacks and a roll.

We don't know anything about the new combat engine.

We know you can fist melee with contextual finishers? You can throw your weapon (axe) - and freeze enemies to walls or simply do normal damage. Do ground pounds. Kick? Rage mode. Have your kid launch arrows which probably means you'll probably have a bow and arrow too at some point. That's besides the basic attack with the axe, KI Thunder style.

In the other games you don't have that many combos in your arsenal until you upgrade your weapons. This demo is clearly early in the game so there is probably not a lot of variety in the combat since the axe isn't upgraded much. So I wouldn't jump to conclusions on the combat just yet.

I was burnt out on GoW so this new version is a nice change of pace. I played all the GoW games and loved them up to GoW3, but when Ascension came out I just wasn't interested anymore. I got it on PS+ and haven't bothered to play it. I bet SSM saw the trend and knew it was time to change the formula.

My wild guess for the game is that the kid is Tyr, will end up losing a hand sometime during the game, and the sequel will be Gods of War where you swap between the two of them.
