ESPN 30 for 30 - OJ: Made in America

I'm seeing some reactions on social media along the lines of, "damn, nicole did him dirty"

While it's fine and dandy to talk about marital decorum in any other situation, let's not lose sight of the fact that she was fucking stabbed to death.

I'm kind of glad I watched the People vs OJ show as a refresher. This is the ultimate compliment piece.

Episode three gets right into it.

Thing about OJ knowing that happened is that he really was somewhere in the bushes being a creep and watching her every move.
That was creepy as fuck and pretty terrifying to imagine from Nicole's perspective. I have a friend who was in a relationship like that and every time she tried to leave, he'd show up at her house at random hours, refused to take care of their kid, and beat the shit out of her all while having sex with other women whenever he felt like it.

This is nuts!! What I can't comprehend is how Nicole kept going back? How do you get beat that many times and keep going back? Obviously none of us were in her shoes but damn, you think her friends would persuade her. She was so good looking, too. OJ is just a maniac.

Sadly she is far from a rare occurrence in cases of domestic violence.

Unfortunately a lot of abuse victims stay with their abuser. Like this episode said, OJ was their family provider, so her leaving would be a financial disaster for her entire family. I'm sure she also felt like if she left than OJ would keep bugging her or eventually harm her, and look what happened.

You must've ignored the long section where he kept following her and breaking into her house whenever she tried to move on.

This is seriously one of the most engrossing documentaries I've ever seen, especially the contrasting lives of minorities vs a celebrity-minority. 30for30 did a great job, and i say this after only watching 2 of 5 pats so far.
No, I watched everything. I even saw where she kept going back. Even after she started dating someone else.
Remember her letters? She said she went back (again) because she wanted her kids to grow up in a 2 parent household. Also, OJ would constantly tell her he's changed and she so desperately to believe him.

I never knew OJ "organized a celebrity golf tournament" as his community service for beating Nicole, holy shit
I loved how they showed that "status" trumps "race" when it comes to the justice system.

I listened to an interview with the makers of this on NPR earlier and the explanation of why the glove didn't fit was enlightening.

How ccould anyone say she did him dirty? She gave him more than one too many chances, it was more like five too many.

nevermind, I'm not even sure I want to know the thought process. That episode was enough between the open season on blacks and those phone calls..

Watching part 4 right now. The lawyers for the defense are pissing me off. I know it's the lawyers job to defend their client and make sure they are found not guilty, but it's sickening the way they twist things. How could you ever defend someone you know is guilty of such horrific crimes.

How? Finished part 2, was unaware of the rest leaking?

So, why are you asking that question? She said that she went back to him at first because of the kids, then when she left him, he stalked her, beat her, then she ended up dead.

Do they seriously show the murder scene pictures? If so, surely that's a bit over the top, and unnecessary for an ESPN 30 for 30?

They do. I don't think it's over the top, as it's presented in the most detail of the actual murder I've ever heard.

They do, they show the gaping wound in Nicole's throat and a large hole on the side of Ron's neck as well as several other less dramatic pictures. I wonder how much of this will actually be shown on TV though

I'm guessing they will. I think they blurred out the word "blowjob" in episode two.

I never knew too much about the murders but damn they were absolutely brutal and horrific. OJ completely lost it. Those pictures that went along with the guy explaining how the murder happened was chilling.

Just finished the series. Absolutely outstanding.

It's broken down perfectly. You have episode one and five serving as polar opposite exposes into his life. Episodes two through four are the meat and potatoes of the murder trial.

Still wrapping my head around the fact this is a product of ESPN. Easily the best thing they've ever put on television from a journalistic, story-telling, and pacing point of view.

i don't think anybody is losing sight of that. i don't see anybody dogging her for hooking up with that other dude Kevin other than the fact that she was giving him head in the living room while the kids were upstairs.

it's just that in a vacuum her and Marcus did do OJ dirty. that should've been completely off limits. OJ was Marcus OG so to many (myself included) that's an absurdly spiteful move.

Marcus knows it was fucked up. Dude perjured himself because he wasn't trying to wear that.

Watching part 4 right now, Marcia is giving her closing testimony, and the song playing reminds me of the rains of castamere lol

Carl Douglas was really a highlight for this program. Even Fuhrman was a standout in the grand scheme of things.

Amazed they had this much access to these individuals and were able to integrate them flawlessly with the narrative.

Is there any way to hide that progress bar on the bottom when full screen? It's pretty annoying. Just watching on PC.

I think the fact that his defense and acquittal is tied to race relationships in LA makes it all just seem like a sham given how much he didn't care at all about being black.

With the miniseries, it sort of felt "fake" because it was John Travolta and the guy from Friends doing this shit, but I wonder how the actual lawyers can feel about not only defending a guilty person, but also exploiting race in a way that made a mockery of the things that happened to the real victims of institutional racism.

Anyone know where else to watch the remaining episodes without using the ESPN app? I can't access the episodes due to me apparently not being subscribed to ESPN3, lol.
