She just comes off as very anti-Buffy. One of those actors who tries desperately to leave the thing that made her who she is today in her past.

Back when they were doing the animated series that never got off the ground, she was the only cast member who said she wouldn't do her own voice. Everyone else, even David Boreanez, said they would.

I'd love to be wrong of course but I don't see it happening. The Buffy season 8 comic (and soon season 9) are probably the closest we'll get.
Yeah I noticed that.

If anything she should be thankful for Buffy, its the reason she's famous. And the only thing she did close to anything successful was a remake of a japanese horror movie and Scooby Doo :lol

She'll come around, I hope :(

I'm not saying she won't ever have any success. Hell I like her and I hope for the best.

But seriously, at the moment she isn't exactly in the position to not be a part of it if it ever happens. And thats under the assumption that she would refuse doing a buffy movie.

That wasn't a comment about Sarah, I was talking about the negative comments towards Joss in here.

Seemingly confirmed, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily:

I'm told Marvel Studios is in final negotiations for Buffy the Vampire Slayer series architect Joss Whedon to direct Marvel Studios' The Avengers. That's the fast-tracked film that would amount to an all-star team of Marvel superheros, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), as well as SHIELD leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Other signature superheros will likely be involved, but I've listed the actors in active superhero duty...

More at the link.

Hell no. I do not like this. His run on x-men despite being proclaimed to be good, is one that i just passed over. He needs to stick to his own whedonverse

Heh...

oh wait... for realsies?

C'mon man. At least read it before you trash it.

I would be willing to bet that she would say yes. Her career since hasn't been stellar, and she's actually turned down or been unable to do roles that ended up being successful since. I'd bet that she is smart enough now to say yes, especially with how awesome the comic series is -- proof that the series could continue and still be amazing.

At least he won't be writing it.

though Zak Penn is writing it...which is probably even worse.

Again, 'splain yourself. I'd love for Joss to get a few weeks to give the script a pass of his own. The man knows his comics, and I have no doubt that we're going to get a film that takes advantage of that knowledge base.

Dollhouse started off weak but got good by the time season 2 rolled around. Joss gave us Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity and Dr. Horrible. Dollhouse was mostly Dushku's idea anyway.

Just sayin'.

Ugh, yeah, I think he'd be better than Penn at least.

Can't speak for Blader... and maybe I just need to watch more of his stuff... but frankly I find his output that I've seen to feature dialogue that's overwritten, and too self-consciously "clever" for its own good.

Clearly articulated reasons for this level of abject despair. Go.

Honestly, I enjoy his writing. His run on Astonishing X-Men is fan-fucking-tastic, but with that said I don't enjoy his directing abilities. I love Serenity, but it's mostly because of the cast and the history of the show. Then going back to his shows that's exactly where I think he belongs. Directing television. He's good at making that work. I haven't watched Dollhouse fully, but from what I've seen it's one of his "brand" of shows.

Something as established and providing very little wriggle room with something like the Avengers I don't think will end well.

I'm going to hope for the best, but preparing for the worst.

Also, I had a casting thought--

Keanu as the Vision!

Finally, an excuse for him to be emotionally non-existent and disconnected from whoever he's in a scene with!

I don't know if I should be excited for this. On one hand, it's an Avengers movie. Finally. On the big screen. But I haven't really followed Whedon's work. "Buffy" and "Angel" didn't grab me. I've seen maybe 1-2 episodes of "Firefly" and I own "Serenity" on dvd. I thought the movie was kind of cool. I don't know, I just imagined someone else directing...

Do you know what happens to a Toad when it's struck by lightning?

Love Whedon, and I'm glad that this appears to be more than the April Fools joke I had originally feared. (Insert Felicia Day = Wasp, Buffy = Mockingbird cameo, etc. fanboy casting here. Tudyk = Kang ....you know it to be true.)

I even get that Berry completely butchered the tone of that joke, and Singer left it in the film that way. Ask the question; SFX lightning bolt; "...the same thing that happens to everything else." With the right timing, the joke could actually work.

All that said, I can still see someone not wanting Whedon to do the script / rewrite. His tone and style is great, but at the same time, it's his....and I can see someone wanting a better fit with the existing movies in the same continuity.

When the production goes terribly wrong Whedon will be able to explain his way out of it like always.

He could just say "Fox" and all whedon apologists will instantly have his back :lol

This is cool, but I would have loved to see Whedon do a Wonder Woman movie.
IMO Wonder Woman is the blandest character DC has, even worse than Superman.

Great news on this though.

HELL. YES.

Now just cast Jensen Ackles as Hawkeye and we'll know Marvel Studios is 2 for 2 as far as Best Casting Choice Ever goes, after RDJ as Iron Man.

The haters are just hilarious. There's no logical reason you can say NOOOOOOOO to this. We've seen Joss direct a motion picture (Serenity) and it was done well. We've seen he knows his comics VERY well and not only writers the characters with respect, but had one of the best runs on a Marvel Comic ever (Astonishing X-Men).

No bad can come of this.

Well, it can. But there's zero reason to think there can. And no, the first 12 or whatever episode season of Dollhouse out of all the other fantastic things Joss has done doesn't mean shit.

Yes, bad can come from this. Joss could write it. Joss could cast Summer Glau in it. Those are two terrible things that can happen to the film.

As a director on the project, I am not excited but I am not totally against it. If he was writing and directing it, I would run for the hills.

I am glad to see I am in a group that is not as small as I first predicted. (The Anti-Whedonites).

Although, I have been saying for quite some time now that Jensen Ackles should play Hawkeye. He definitely has the cocky, horny asshole thing down pat. And I love it.

Love this news. Though I would love it if he himself was writing it. However, in choosing to direct someone else's work I'm going to assume he loved the script so that's good enough for me.

PS: Don't give a fuck if the movie turns out bad and Whedon divorces it. The movie will have been shit and thats it. It doesn't magically negate his previous work. 5 out of the 6 Film/TV projects he has had direct hands on himself (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible) have been basically perfect. Dollhouse by season 2 actually in my eyes became great. Though the episode he directed himself (the pilot) was fairly boring. This isn't even mentioning his X-Men work either, so i'm totally with him. Anything he did that didn't work is pretty much overshadowed by what did. The same goes for people like Spielberg.

The man is a hack.

Let him keep doing his shitty projects that get canceled on Fox and keep him away from important stuff.

I like this news. Joss knows how to do ensembles. He knows characters and with a movie like this, characters are very important. And since he now has a big big budget with which to work, maybe he'll actually let loose. I'm optimistic.

Joss would rock it hard! That's awesome.

I hope this pans out. There are some directors that will probably be highly considered over him but Joss is my choice.

You suck.

If we figure a budget of $200 million or so for a movie this big, minute-for-minute, this'll be about 5 times bigger than Serenity, and ~35 times bigger than any episode of Firefly.

I remember watching video interviews where Joss talked about having "a real budget" for Serenity, which came in at $39 million, and how much more creative freedom it allowed him. This time around... *whistles*

Please come in $40 million under budget so you can make a case for financing another 20 episodes of Firefly. Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease

This sounds excellent to me... It also doesn't sound like it would ever happen. Like the rest of the Avengers movie, I'll try not to get my hopes up.

Dead

well not really...yet
Directed by Joss Whedon?

Written by Zak Penn? and Re-written by Whedon?

Yeah this will suck :(
