Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

um, have people referenced this rolling stone article/reggie interview?
potentially concerning bit: "This game is a risk", says Fils-Aimé. "It takes all of the Zelda conventions and turns them on their ear. There are no longer dungeons – there are shrines to go through. There are over 100 of these. You have to cook, you have to craft, you have to do a variety of things that have never been in a Zelda game."

We've had dungeons confirmed, yes?

I'd say having the game as a(n?) NX launch title in March is pretty likely given what we've heard so far.

Responding to the important bit here: 'an' is correct since NX starts (phonetically) with a vowel ('en' eks), hence 'an' instead of 'a.'

:D

Ignore it. There are dungeons. Aonuma/Treehouse info > Reggie info.

Something to note:

If there's elevated demand for NX consoles (driven by Breath of the Wild), there's going to be camping for preorders. In the middle of friggin' winter.

On the plus side:
file your taxes early if you're getting a refund back. You can use the funds for Launch Day/Zelda vacation festivities.

No idea how it'll all pan out, but I've already made an agreement with my closest friends that we'll camp out for this game. Even crazier than that, we're planning on doing it at Nintendo NY which is about a 2 hour drive for them and 4 hours for me!

I'm hoping and praying that they have a reasonable system to at least get pre-orders. Otherwise our dream might have to die. No way in heck I'm waiting outside, 4 hours from home, to "maybe" get the NX.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.

I always pronounced it as 'neks'. Your argument is invalid. You get zero cookies with cinnamon and chocolate chips.

I have a nagging feeling the NX will be delayed again. I don't think they've said March 2017 with the intention of delaying it further, but they're being very careful with this launch and I would not be very surprised if it gets pushed back to the summer until they're completely sure that it's ready.

Zelda is 2017 only because they do not want to commit to a launch date for the Wii U version if the NX version gets pushed back. If they say the Wii U version is coming along with the NX version in March 2017 right now, and then the NX is pushed back to May or June, then they almost HAVE to release the Wii U version in March, otherwise everyone and their mother knows they're intentionally holding back a complete game to help out the new console which isn't really a good look.

I said this in a previous response, but I'm of the mind that March 2017 is already the absolute latest that Nintendo would plan on releasing the NX.

On one hand, that could actually be their plan to make the NX look better to investors. Release NX as close as possible to the end of the FY and make day/week one sales your talking point. The earlier they launch NX, the more reasoning they have to do if it has a slow start.

On the other hand, that could just be their placeholder date akin to retailers using 30/12/2017. That allows them to release the console earlier and have it look like they're ahead of schedule. My guess for this scenario would be a launch in early-to-mid February like the "New" 3DS.

I sometimes think Reggie should just not say anything at all.

Yep, the preorder logistics are what concern me. For the Wii U, GameStop made the announcement with an absurdly short heads-up time, preventing many folks from being able to plan ahead, take off from work, etc. They've gotta give us more advance notice this time around.

I've noticed that the GameStop opens up its preorders the same day that Nintendo announces the final hardware release date and price. So if Nintendo has an NX Nintendo Direct scheduled, be ready to shuttle over to the store that same day.

I just did a quick search and found that you are indeed correct! I wonder if that was indeed a Freudian slip. From what I know of web design and data, it would be pretty hard for that to be an unintentional goof.

I honestly don't see NX getting delayed past March 2017. If anything, I'm willing to bet it will release earlier than that. As Nintendo's Fiscal Year ends in March, announcing NX for then struck me as Nintendo's version of putting a 30/12/2017 placeholder date.

Yea that's where all the March confusion started. Aside from many just assuming TP-style Zelda at launch scenarios. Which obviously would make a lot of sense :D

It would be truly weird if the first game they announced for their new system, and the only game we'll have heard them talk about on NX for like six months before the console is announced, doesn't show up for launch.

Especially after it was announced for NX during an investor briefing about their outlook for this fiscal year.

For real though, what happened at 2:04?

Seemed like Nintendo cut out a piece of the trailer at the last minute. That is not a natural transition.

It's intentional likely to highlight Ganon as a force beyond nature and Technology. Hence an unnatural cut. I kinda like that weird cut, it makes an otherwise peaceful trailer much more interesting.

It just doesnt work with the music audio though. Its like it cuts back in in the middle of a song, and its some trivial footage to cut back to. But who knows.

Smh at y'all trying to read into this. It's just a stylish edit done for dramatic effect. The music here crescendos, and since the rest of the trailer is in cut to the music, the video crescendos with it. We get a tease of Ganon, which the editor cuts in a frantic way to give some extra weight to the terror of Ganon. Then we hard cut to black, and cut back in on a wide vista as the score kicks back in on a powerful note. Literally none of that is weird.

I too have edited videos professionally and I know what they were going for. But just seems it was poorly executed here.

yep agreed, seems like something was cut last minute, it has been brought up a couple times here.

You could trigger that whole scene in the demo, but they avoided it on treehouse. They really didn't want to show it on treehouse for some reason. Probably to minimize spoilers.

Can anyone help me to remember something?

The entire scene that plays when reaching a Shrine's Monk revolts my subconcious. It is similar to something i' ve seen in the past but i don't know what precisely. i guess it's from another game or animation most likely. i think is related to those blue particles.

It's a really weird feeling and a tad bit unsettling.

The whole shrine thing is a big risk. IF they turn out to be boring and have the same tile set the game could be really boring really quickly

Reggie wouldn't know better than the developers, who confirmed dungeons.

Besides the size of shrines could vary to a degree that would make a lack of dungeons moot. But, as far as we have been informed, dungeons are in.

I doubt they cut anything of the trailer since the music continues from where it left (notice the high note that remains after the cut). It's just a terrible transition haha.

I can't believe a video editor would think that is a good cut.

If the audio was handled better, it would have been an alright cut altogether (though still not a particularly good one). But as is, it was messy to say the least. If it was intentional, for dramatic effect, it was poorly done and jarring.

Thing I like so far from what I've seen:

+ sense of exploration, discovery and lack of hand-holding
+ the physics and the ability to combine items/skills in unique ways
+ visuals and character animations

Things I dislike:

- I'd like an overworld theme regardless of looping - I'm sure they could figure something out and make it contextual.

- I do NOT like the idea of having to combine and cook foods in order to regain health. If they want to make it so that you have to findd some rare herbs/items and then combine them to make some strong elixir or other really useful thing, that's fine, but as a regular part of gameplay I shouldn't have to find food, fell a tree for some wood, create a fire, combine the ingredients, and then eat it just to regain health. Maybe it won't play out this way, but that's the sense I got, and it's annoying.

You can make a bunch of meals, potions, snacks, etc... and use them when necessary and not immediately.

And it does not seem that ingredients are going to be that rare to find, the vid about Cooking and Hunting was great to show that you have a LOT of ingredients from where to choose to the point that you can make your Link vegan by avoiding to cook meat.

EDIT: Have to say that one of my favorite moments of the Hunting and Gathering vid was when Link tried to cook a butterfly and a fish and this happened:

Can you not just find food to eat without having to cook it first? I thought just hunting an animal and then consuming their meat would heal you. Or does it need to be cooked first?

Could the cut have been done last minute, as in Nintendo deliberated on removing something that might have been deemed as too much of a spoiler?

You can eat raw ingredients but cooking make them better.

I was kind of astonished when they showed that not only cooking itself affects the food but HOW you cook it, for example:

1) Raw Steak

iwVjnze.png

2) Steak cooked directly on a fire

3) Steak cooked in a pot

All that with a single steak and without additional ingredients.

You can eat it in a raw state but cooking it makes it more effective.

Makes sense, but at least we know you dont HAVE to cook to regain health.

Thats what the original question was about a few posts up. And I think something I had suggested in here on the day the trailer dropped.

Oh gosh, wow.

This game looks amazing, so many awesome changes to the formula and Nintendo has essentially convinced me to get a Wii U/NX to play this game. Cannot wait.

Seen a lot of people wishing there was more overworld music, so I'm going to voice my opinion that I like the minimalistic approach they've taken. The lack of music in the wild spaces emphasizes the world and the music's sudden presence in battle or near important areas like the Temple of Time emphasizes those more important moments. Though I do hope the towns still have some fun, boisterous themes or whatever. If the silence emphasizes Link alone in the wilderness, a place with a lot of people should be louder and more musical.

Yeah, I gotta say I was disappointed at the lack of classic Zelda theme at first, but after watching at least 7 or 8 hours of footage I'm really digging it. Walking into a special area and hearing dat subtle piano really stirred my feels. I'm also in love with the battle theme.

One of the treehouse segments had Aounoma say something like he wanted to say more about blah blah then Chico comes in and shush's him. I reckon he had a much more spoilerific trailer that NoA cut at the last second, leading to the jarring moment in the trailer.

It's also important to some bits of gameplay, as different surfaces that you walk on have different noises that you have to take into account for stealth (in addition to the sounds that the equipment on your person makes).
