Miyamoto: Nintendo can't comment on NX because of "an idea that we're working on"

So the final spec is not set then? Not looking good for Nintendo. I bet most devs haven't got the kits yet too.

Reminds me of that slide that the late Mr. Iwata showed at one of the investor briefings.

It was for the health program OQL.

Reading this thread is like reading the Zelda threads before E3. People were so convinced that there was nothing new that Nintendo could add to "open world" games. Most of us were convinced that it was all done before. Why would people give and arm and leg to get Zelda right now when it is on a dead system? Nintendo shut a lot of critics up at E3 with Zelda and I'm sure they will do the same here with NX. I can't wait.

Throw us a bone here. Matt, lherre, anybody!

I am still picturing NX as some type of semi-stationary device. Not really a console or a handheld. But I have no friggin idea.

I really don't see what's "non-wearable" supposed to mean when it's clearly not supposed to mean things that were there before being wearable

Was Nintendo working on hardware accelerated mind control or what

I think you guys are taking it too literally. They probably had the idea finalized years ago. They are just adding the final touches. There's nothing about the quote that suggests they are behind schedule.

Also, we had some discussion before that the new brand exp would not just be the hybrid thing.
This qoute from miyamotto proves my though already from a while ago that it's something totally new unique. Also told many times that they can't reveal it because they don't wont their idea to be stolen.

Nintendo NX Will Be ‘New Experience’, Not Next Version of Wii U
http://gamerant.com/nintendo-nx-wii-u-313/

I could give you a list of what nintendo has brought of gimmicks in the past beside wii.
I'm sure now you'r using every gimmick from them.

This can mean anything though. You can still bring a new experience, and borrow ideas from the past at the same time. The DS did it, it simply took the dual screen concept from the Game & Watch multi-screen series, and gave it touch screen, mic, polygons, and wireless.

Gimmick console confirmed :( Shake your hips to make Mario do the jumpz.

Pessimism aside, looking forward to whatever they announce for NX.

Bring it on Nintendo, thrill me. Hell, the other two set the bar so low that just announcing free online for the NX would get me halfway to a purchase. Hopefully the gimmick is input based.

Gimme teh gimmick!

:]

If you think a hybrid is a gimmick then yeah. I'm going to speculate that the delay is due to them maybe securing some battery parents or doing a deal with a battery tech company or something.

A hybrid will need a really good battery to be worthwhile so maybe they don't want to say anything until they can guarantee at least 8-10 hours of battery life.

This.

We have yet to have an insider articulate what this brand new concept is. Clearly it's an integral part of NX. So it follows that, if you're in the know --> you would be able to at least describe the concept at a high level. Even just to tell us if it's closer to a traditional console or a handheld. At least the reddit hoax had a new concept.

Specs and comparisons to existing hardware aren't even in the same ballpark of discussion, imo.

Man, I was hoping we would just get something bordering on 'normal'. Maybe their planning on doubling down on the controller with screen by introducing an additional (DS) screen. To be frank, I'm a bit worried now.

We know it's capable of playing Zelda and that it will be "the same experience" as on the Wii U so it can't possibly be that crazy.

And it worked.

They also did:

shoulder buttons
3d stick
rumble
....

But it has nothing to do with wii or wiiu. Nothing motion related but something fresh.

The console industry needs it, because the sales are really bad this gen.

People are sick of gfx upgrade, they want to have fresh games, thats why many are hyped with the VR.

I get the feeling that the number of people in the know on this is so small that said gimmick hasn't even left Nintendo's walls yet, and whatever is out there is incomplete.

Agree, just like the analog stick or dpad or wiimote.
The most important thing is, that the concept is something brand new.
Something no one did used before within gaming world.

I don't expect something wii or wii u motion like. Because they made that clear.
Could be some kind of vr patent that they already described many years ago...

Okay. So sounds like NX will indeed come down to some big mystery we have no good way to speculate about. As has been said (if not in this thread, elsewhere), it does seem to me that the shared ecosystem is more of an innovation on their end to better service customers for better adoption over time and a way to, perhaps, pull customers from one device to another as well as a way to hedge against one of the devices failing, than a hooking 'gimmick.' Sounds like there will be a such a 'gimmick' and here's to hoping it is cool or at least not bad and sells them some more consoles so we can all stop worrying, Nintendo can try new games, etc.

For what it's worth I'm super-bummed that nobody did anything worthwhile with the Wii U Gamepad past the launch of the system with a few exceptions.

So much potential there. Fuck.

This is what's so exciting about Nintendo. It could be pretty much anything.

This could really go either way but damnit I'm going to ride this rollercoaster.

Good lord. All this chatter because of what was most likely just a throwaway comment? He basically just said "Well, we're not talking because it's not time to show it off yet" not, "Well, we're not talking because WE HAVE A NEW IDEA THAT WE'RE ADDING OMG!!!"

They never added the 2nd gamepad support they promised @E3'12.

I really, really hope it's not an underwhelming gimmick this time around.

But considering that Nintendo doesn't seem to care for "hardcore" gamers and is after the "blue ocean", it probably will be.

Are you new here ?
Neogaf is like that: love gaming gossips ^^

What are you even talking about? Devs can get devkits before specs are finalized and numerous systems have had specs changed within the last year before release.

So they are still trying to figure what to do 8 months before its launch, I'm kinda worried.

Reason #10 why I don't think the NX will launch in March. I think we'll get some info about NX over the next 11 months then a full reveal at E3 2017. Launch Holiday 2017.

People need to realize despite how poorly the Wii U has performed, Nintendo has a bunch of assets/cash, and is in no hurry to launch a new system. Time is irrelevant to Nintendo
