Eh.

Something like 100 people are working now, 300 people worked in one point or another, 5 years in development.

Then something like a title (not necesarily Zelda) needs to sell 2m worlwide to be a success and how in the struggling Japan 300k is a hit.

Thanks for the clarifications

Miyamoto said NX was to be shown at E3, needs to be finished before information is released. They don't want nobody copying their ideas.

Zelda was really popular though.

Is this thread worthy?

So does that mean that the NX will be in production in July

Don't you guys just love how we already know NX release date and now the month when the NX will begin production BUT YET WE STILL DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT THE ACTUAL THING????? I don't. I simply don't.

Theoretically Capcom or Konami make sense if Nintendo wanted a M&A with an unmerged company who held a lot of IPs they could use. I think Konami makes sense IP wise.

Isn't Konami a bigger company than Nintendo is? I thought Konami's market cap was something ridiculous like $40 billion.

EDIT: my math was off a decimal place, ignore. It's slightly over 5 billion.

Not sure how big Konami'd market cap is but that can be overcome. Honestly the real issue is that Konami has no interest in being in the normal gaming business. Its pachi slots and gyms for them. Nintendo could try to pry some of their IP away but that's nothing more than a fan boy fantasy.

People need to come to the rea conclusion that Konami as a video game company is all but gone forever.

for now

Would it even be possible for competitors to copy their gimmick to a good standard within 8 months?

As I said before, they don't need to. Coming out at any point could be damaging, and the sooner they know what's coming, the sooner they can get their version out. Even if it's after the NX's launch, it could still have a major impact on Nintendo

Ugh now I'm worried that because of this, Nintendo will wait till freaking november or december to announce the damn thing.

They are probably just waiting till Sony reveals the PS4k. I don't think we'll have to wait much longer to hear about it.

December is too late to reveal if they are serious about March.

Seems like Nintendo wants to preserve the uniqueness of their idea in order to capitalize on the launch and first NX holiday season. I can understand their approach even if it is agonizing for hardcore Nintendo fans.

"Shinya Takahashi: By using resources made for Zelda on other software, we can make many compact titles."

This is interesting, they might be using the Zelda engine for other NX games, Xenoblade NX using that physics engine :)

Well OOT technially used the mario 64 engine so this wouldnt be the first time they did something similar.

It's an open world engine with lots of physics and all
sorts of varying mechanics. I think Takahashi is saying even small elements of the engine can be reused to make compact games with smaller teams.

Well, now everyone is going to take this as confirmation of a delay to Holiday 2017.

That quote about fear of imitators is super interesting. Sounds like confidence to me. With the Wii U the vibe felt more like "we kinda don't know what to do next".

Would seem to be a good fit for any number of franchises. "Open Air" Metroid would have people shitting their pants.

Nintendo may not be counting Zelda's engine as part of it's budget if they plan to use it to more games, then it falls under developmment tools expenses and under a bunch of other things. That would explain why Zelda needs to sell so little.

Or maybe they're the most cost effective developer in the world.

Kimishima legit shook by Brexit.

Of course he is. This completely destroyed his plans, and most likely Nintendo is currently trying to decide if they should move forward at the risk of being a loss leader, or if they should make additional cuts to the hardware to become profitable again. They could just raise the price, but looking at Wii U I don't think they'd want to.

This is probably going to affect Neo's price as well. $450 is likely now, I'd say.

How is 2M to break even even possible?

The game took like 10 years to make

They're saying 5 years. Doesn't look like any CGI or much VA. So there's a huge slice of your average AAA budget. Marketing has also tbd. Nintendo know how to cut the corners, though.
