One Analyst's Prediction: PS4 Slim to be announced in addition to the PS4 Neo at TGS

Not impossible, but the PS4 is still smaller than the Xbox One S, there really isn't a lot of reasons to release a new smaller version unless they can really slim it down and still keep the heat down.

Interesting turn of events! I hope the Neo design ends up better, though, since that's the one I'm gonna get.

Will it get this slimmer?

Going back to the top loader disc? Oh yeah!

Sony would be really stupid to announce Neo and a Slim model on the same day. On top of that- this kills the rumor that "Neo is the Slim PS4".

A PS4 slim should be easy to make with a cpu die reduction. Also they may make the power supply an external brick. Psu takes up 40 percent of the space inside Ps4 as well generate a good deal of heat. PS2 slim went the brick route to save massive space.
Please no brick. I love how easy it is to move the PS4 and PS3 due to the lack of brick. They also clutter up the back where all the cables are and I imagine generate heat which then gets trapped there?

PS4 already felt like a Slim.

I hope the actual PS4 slim isnt like the PS4 super slim and feels like its made of the plastic used in boxes of chocolate to hold the bits in place. That version of the console was nasty.

What's stupid about this?

One will still be the cheaper option than the other.

I brought this up at E3 and everyone said there's no need for a PS4 slim. Now look.

Andrew House already said both models would coexist throughout the generation. I really don't think this would be stupid at all. If anything, it would reaffirm their commitment to the regular PS4 and potentially calm down any anxieties people have.

I don't have a PS4. I'd buy a slim if Neo didn't exist, but it does so buying a slim version of the "inferior" PS4 makes absolutely no sense to me.

Hope this isn't true, that last thing they need is to make things even more complicated. MS seemed all over the place at E3 and their new console isn't out for 18 months.

Yeah, after that Slim/Scorpio reveal combo I hoped Sony wasn't going to pull the same move. It'd make more sense to lower the price for the current PS4, and reveal the Neo.

You're right. If true, then having Slim, Neo and PSVR all in the same year would be.... a bit odd. Somethings gotta give. Either Neo gets delayed until next year or Slim is not happening.

Slim consoles ARE a cost-cutting measure, so it's likely the slim will launch at a lower price than the current PS4.

I kinda hope the Neo launches next year. I really want to get an Xbone and I don't want the Neo out when I just made that purchase. That's just me though.

Same here. The vanilla PS4 would have to hit at most $250 and have a significant price difference compared to the Neo for me to consider it.

hows a slim possible?

I think it's just a term for a revision of a current console with cheaper components etc. I doubt they can get the console smaller and it's not really needed.
The sound is way more important imo, the launch ps4 was a loud beast when playing games like Infamous Second Son.

MS did it and it worked out fine.

I mentioned this last page, but MS took a not insignificant amount of flak over it. I personally think there is nothing wrong with announcing it, considering how far away the X1S is from the Scorpio and that they aren't exactly interchangeable, but I wonder if Sony would get any shit for it.

Slim version will still be on 28nm. IMO. Porting to 14nm finfet is a waste of money.

Might use PUMA and GCN 1.2 for better efficiencies.

UHD and HDR are obvious features to add to the slim.

Need that competitor to Xb1S.

I highly doubt they will do this in Japan. If Neo is to be released this year, I would bet on scheduling this announcement to an European event. Since I doubt that Neo is being released in 2016, I say PSX in December or dedicated event in Feb.

But not in Japan
