Playdead's INSIDE spoiler thread.

I'm wondering if anything more is revealed if you collect all the hidden orbs. Anyone do this yet? Will go for them all on next play through.

I got them all, the last one has a board that luights up showing whcih you've gotten and which you haven't...when I got the last one inside the giant orb, the board was then blank with just the 2 glowing. 2 is the one in the cornfield with the weird handle, so I've been dicking with that to no avail.

edit derp it's been posted, I should've assumed. Not sure where you figure out the sequence though.

So the little guy dies when he get taken by the weird creepy girl. But then he comes back to life... how?
I think it was one of those "trying to help, but the act of helping is potentially dangerous". She was trying to drag him down to that cable

Basically "good" intentions but potentially lethal

Take some George Orwell add a little David Cronenberg a touch of Stanley Kubrick and liberally sprinkle with some David Lynch and youve got yourself one of the best games of the year.

just finished
the whole last act was like

what an incredible game, well done Playdead

The animations of the blob were so impressive. The way it moved and flowed, how the limbs worked together to grab and carry things

So I'm thinking

A) The boy is an escaped test subject? Maybe a special type, since his character is unique, perhaps super dangerous? Maybe the guys trying to kill you throughout the game know that you are heading towards the blob thing and know how dangerous you can be?

B) Someone else is controlling you.

Yes, the player. The boy is just as brain dead as everyone else and reacts only to your commands. The scenes where he controls others that control others are the key. It's you, the player, that is commanding the boy, that is commanding somebody else, that is commanding somebody else. The question is: Who controls you?

Interestingly, like Limbo, the game makes big swerves with your expectations from the opening

Limbo starts with the woods and spider, and ends with gravity switching in giant sawblade-filled industrial landscapes

This starts with the tense fleeing-an-Orwellian-society, ends with a Cronenberg being and rampaging through a seemingly active research lab

Btw, those opening sections? Amazing. Better than Limbo. That No Country For Old Men-esquire tension as searchlights scan the land and dogs chase you through the woods and streams. It felt so suspenseful

The world seemed very advanced but then you had the farms in the outskirts of the city

And the pig had some kind of mind-controlling leech or something, right? When you rip it out, the pig becomes docile. I wonder if the masks that the people wear makes them aggressive towards the boy

So when the blob grabs the boy and pulls you inside, I'm sure everyone had the same reaction right?

"Man, that was a messed up death."
Waits for black screen
Nothing happens
Press a button or push the stick
"Wait...wai...holy shit, I'm controlling that thing?!?"

Can we speak about how polished the game was? I think it is one of the best looking game I've ever played.
The animations were really really impressive. I'm biased to Rain World's procedural animations since that's like my most anticipated game, but the movement here was fantastic. Absolutely instilled that tension by making you feel small and weak and just barely surviving all these hazards

Did anyone else get super hyped when you figured out what to do with the flaming cube at the end? I "fuck yeah!"'d after I threw it over the sprinkler and caught it.

Okay just got all of the achievements and went down to the secret vault.

Definitely seems like he was a zombie all along, being controlled... by the player or whomever was at that console in the distance, perhaps? Kind of meta? And he pulls the plug.

I was a little bit disappointed that the boy didn't burst out of the Cronenberg at the end. I get it, it's in the title, but still. Woulda been cool to see him bust out and then sit at the beach.

Yup. Then I finally got to wreck shit, was so satisfying to suddenly turn from a butteryfly to a t-rex

I loved that at the end, you are expecting him to emerge from the human-mass, but he doesn't. I sat there mashing buttons on the controller trying to see if he'd escape it, but then the realization set it, congruently with the ominous final notes of music.

Brilliant.

I got that feeling more from when the Ring girl pulled me under and I just kept going down. I thought it was an overly elaborate death sequence. Like she's taking me down to the queen to be eaten there.

Something else that I noticed-

No loading screens. No framerate drops. No stutters. From beginning to end it is seamless. Not once did I feel ripped away or removed from the game. That's not too common of a thing these days.

Yeah, it was fun.

Did anyone else try to crawl into the oven like I did? I was kinda thinking that was the end. Like LIMB-O just wanted to be freed from its life of suffering. >_>

That was my first thought, but I wondered what was up with the vertical openingo n the other side. I did enjoy throwing an catching the box though.

Getting sucked into that tank, the boy's clothes torn off and swimming around completely nude with all those people peering in through the glass on the other side was a memorable image.

Was the kid actually running from something at the beginning? Or was he bravely trying to get INSIDE the facility for some reason? :O

I feel like the entire game is him trying to get inside while people are chasing him, as if he's an escaped subject.

Well, we know the computer in the field is controlling the boy, all these test subjects are hooked up to shit all over the game too, so when it comes to 'the subject wants to come release the blob'...I think it's reasonable to surmise that NOTHING you do is because the subject/boy wants to do it, but rather that the computer in the field wants to do it, is it like all of the subjects consciousnesses beings tored or something? idk.

That it's an escaped subject seems spot on and that's the the sense I got. It makes the title super literal, it's trying to get Inside.

A lot of the other particulars are purposefully vague to let put you your own creative spin on the whole thing.

When did he gain the ability to control the guys without the helmets? was it the suspended ones right afte the water section? I kind of wonder if when he 'drowns' and gets revived with the electronics, that's when he gets taken over by the computers? like he died and now the computer is doing the rest? this is all assuming it's not some highly symbolic thing in the first place.

How do you get the tape in chapter 16 to play the lever sequence? That's the last piece I need to open the vault.

ALSO, did anyone notice that you pull a mind controlling leech off the pig, similar to the ones in Limbo? What if they're in the same universe, they're the same leeches and the mind control tech was reverse engineered from them?!

Anybody else think this game was totally J Horror (Japanese Horror)? At the beginning I got a real E.T / George Orwell vibe, but by the end the game was clearly J Horror inspired from start to finish.

I felt the game invoked mostly THE HOST and GYO if anybody is interested/wants to agree with me, with a little RING/GODZILLA thrown in.

Yeah, I felt some Junji Ito influence as well.

I instantly thought of those leeches when he ripped it out of the pig. I think it's plausible that the mind-control tech was engineered from them. Maybe that's what the pig farm was for. To breed the worms, then harvest them. All the dead pigs, they weren't butchered for meat.

The masks on the pursuers were white too. I wonder if those people were being controlled as well

Yeah, I felt some Junji Ito influence as well.
Yes, definitely influenced Ring and Junji

I love that Inside is a stealth body horror/Ito-inspired horror game

Hopefully there's a more on-the-surface story, as well as a deeper meaning. I'm trying to grasp the easier one first. : )

I honestly think that farm theory is on point. The corporation breeds these pigs and uses it for experiments. I got Upstream Color vibes.

Just did the alternate ending. Really don't know what to make of it. He goes to a pose like the mind controlled people when you unplug it. In the background there are monitors surrounding a bunch of wires (presumably from the orbs) connected to a mind control helmet. When he unplugs it it shuts off, so why would he look like a mind controlled AFTER it shuts off?

So what was up with the suspended water? Was that supposed to be another Limbo universe hint? The leeches and gravity tech were from Limbo and shown to have practical purposes here

I just thought, maybe they aren't being mind controlled, maybe they're reanimated corpses.? They were still moving even after being squished, drowned, dropped super far, etc.

It must be. There's just too many parallels for it not to be implying some kind of connection.

Yeah, even parts of bodies would be moving too.

So the leech tech-controlled beings (both the pig and the pursuers, who were wearing white masks over their faces) were driven to kill or capture the boy. The researchers at the end seemed to be a different group and seemed to be trying to help the organism escape.

I didn't think they were helping it escape, I thought they helping it along to lure it into a trap. They didn't expect it to get out of that water tank (the one that they dangled the box over the trap door of).

That was my impression as well. They were trying to draw it away so it would stop destroying their lab, and they do, they lure you into the water tank which you then escape for the ending.

Honest to goodness I tried getting into that oven for at least a couple minutes lol. Tried everything I could think of
