The problem with finding stuff that fill GoT's void is that there isn't much like Game of Thrones.

I hear the Metabarons are kinda GoT-esque but in space. Also heard that there's these books called a Song of Ice and Fire that are somewhat similar, might check those out.

There are some, obviously not as good in just about every aspect but still decent enough.

Rome - HBO, only 2 seasons because they couldn't afford production, but definitely worth watching.
Vikings - I'm not caught up on this so it could be crap now but the first few seasons were good.
Spartacus - I really enjoyed this, the first episode is pretty bad but it picks up.
Deadwood - HBO, Western, but really good. Also another series cut too short due to costs.

Tudors and The Borgias seem like they might be a little similar, though I haven't watched them.

It's a crime John Hannah never found his way to GoT. He made the scheming and politics the best part of a Gladiator show.

He is though. Lyanna was a Stark.

No one is ever referred to by their mother's family in Game of Thrones. This is so disrespectful to his father, I can't believe we're even having this discussion. Everyone else is what their father is, except for Jon? I hope we get a flashback scene of Rhaegar leaving Jon a diary or something, and Ned hiding it in the crypts to give to Jon at a later date. Jon then peaces out on you Starks and you're left with poor man's Professor X, the Dexter reject formerly known as No One, and Madame Clueless holding down the fort.

Watching S3ep10 and Bran tells this story, which is immediately followed by Walder taking a bite of food.

Shit, I can't remember what scene it was but it happened around episode 8-9 of season 3, there's talk about someone being poisoned and then the next scene is Joffrey taking a sip of wine.

[edit]

I remembered wrong.

It's the scene where Stannis is calling out the three kings who will die with the leech spell, right after he says "Joffrey Baratheon" it cuts to Joffrey drinking wine.

Yup, just checked it out. Nice catch.

And just how the focus is on Walder cutting up food and taking a bite, this focuses on the wine being poured and Joffrey taking a sip.

Love the little details like this.

Her mom wasn't a great beauty or any other kind of beauty, but she was a great warrior!!!

This week's episode sucked. Who were all those new characters? Why was it set in New Jersey?

Oh well, at least it still had some politics.

Just for fun, how many weeks do we have to wait until the new season. Assuming it starts late april?

Yeah, most seasons have started around March or April.

[edit]

Guess only one started in March.

Watching the early seasons again, I'm still not sure what they saw in Sibel Kekilli. All her line delivery is horrendous, she's the only person on the show who I think is a poor actor, everyone else is either decent or great.

[edit]

I also miss Jon and Ygritte's relationship, it was soooo good. Fucking Olly.

The fact that they're actually dating makes their scenes be a bit cuter, too.

I know opinions and everything, but I loved her character until she turned on Tyrion. I really thought she was going to make it.. lol

Has this turned into sport rivalry now? lol

I think some people are just turned off by her accent. I always thought she was very good in GOT. She's had some acclaim in movies and TV outside the US too.

I hated how they changed her character into a bad guy. Yeah sure, she testified against Tyrion, but it was either that or death! Bronn got paid off. Podrick had to gtfo. Shae deserved better than a chokeout by Tyrion.

She did not. Tyrion would not have testified against her, and she ignored all his warnings to get away, to flee. He pleaded, yet she stayed.

What's odd about her character is that she was written as someone who understood Tyrion. Always. Even if she didn't agree with him. She saw through his lies and ruses. But then his final lie about wanting her to leave she didn't see through...? That's the only way I can take it. That him calling her a whore, and lashing out at her, she took as genuine. And that cut from Tyrion was strong enough to make her turn on him.

And Tyrion wouldn't have to do that if she wasn't so stupidly stubborn. Which is part of what made me hate the character. She had some dumb unrealistic romantic view of the world that Tyrion rightfully perceived as naive and stupid. He repeatedly told her why it was dangerous for them to be together and she ignored it cause she thought for some reason she was in the same position as Cersei Lannister to be able to say "fuck the world we belong together!"

It was Shae's fault she got caught in the end. Tyrion warned her from the very beginning that no one could find out about them and that she had to be careful, instead she was constantly careless and eventually one of Cersei's handmaidens caught her. Her refusal to heed the the many warnings and over confidence got her in trouble. Finally when Tyrion was forced to turn on her to save her life, she turned on him, but what do you expect?

She was forced to watch Tyrion marry Sansa, and be her handmaiden. Probably not fun being a part-time lover. Tyrion offered to buy her a house in the city, Varys gave her a sack of diamonds to move away, paid for her to leave, but she refused. She was a whore for many years, she was paid to do what men wanted. Only this wasn't about the money to her, not anymore, she was in love with Tyrion, she respected and had admiration for him, and that was obviously more important to her in the end, she wanted him, not his money.

Tyrion fucked it up just as bad as she did though. He knew she shouldn't have come to KL with him, he knew what happened to the last whore he fell in love with, he knew that having her in KL would cause problems, but he took her anyway. He led her to believe that there was a future for them, because for a while he was dumb enough to believe that there could be. He wanted the best of both world's, he wanted to remain a Lannister, he felt like he had something to offer, to the realm, to the Lannister legacy, he wanted to prove that he was more than just the God of tits and wine. He should have known better than to think that his father would ever see him as anything other than what he was, someone Tywin despised.

Shae wasn't a bad guy in the end, she was just someone with a broken heart and someone important to Tyrions growth because it was all of these events that woke up him from reality, he wasn't a Lannister, he was never going to be and he was never going to get respect in KL, he would never find happiness with whores, he couldn't, and no longer even bothered as seen in S5. Her death, Tywins death, the trial needed to happen for him to become the person he is right now, Hand of the Queen.

Having also recently watched earlier seasons, I agree that she was not a very good actor. Maybe she's done better work elsewhere, but it isn't here. All of her line deliveries sound like she's in a school play.

Yeah that always bothered me and whenever I rewatch that scene I always cringe at it. Such an odd way they went about it. I mean I guess she became self-conscious of how she was a whore but...I dont know lol.

This isn't true at all.

There was a pretty long period where he grew colder and colder towards her. He was more occupied with other things than he was with her, then he was forced to marry Sansa, then Varys tried to send her away (unbeknownst to Tyrion but she didn't know that) then they hadn't fucked in weeks etc etc. Look at it as a month long period of two people growing further and further apart mainly by the actions of one person.

How would you react if that was the final blow if you were in her situation?

I think it's still true that she understood him and saw through his lies. But she was still too stubborn to care about the message Tyrion was sending through all of his actions---she wasn't safe in King's Landing. Even Varys went out of his way to try and get her to leave on Tyrion's behalf because her presence put them both in danger. I personally don't perceive Tyrion as being cold, but even if he was---his end goal was keeping her safe. She knew this, and on at least one occasion stated she didn't care. In the end, even if I understand where Shae as a character was coming from, I still can't see her in any light other than bad with where she wound up and how she wound up there.

What I'm saying is that it wasn't that she saw through all of his lies and ruses then suddenly got hit by stupid and believed his final words. It was a culmination of actions and events that had her questioning how much he really cared for her which led her to believe the final blow, only after receiving a few jabs and right hook first.

It wasn't a sudden switch, it was a lot of things that caused her to question it all, over and over until she eventually broke and believed it was true. Not to mention his outburst at the end was quite convincing.

So I was late in getting to the finale.

Holy fucking shit.

I do have one question that may have been addressed though..

Since when does Arya have face/body swapping abilities and how exactly does that shit work?

She already did that with Meryn Trant, the pedophile Kingsguard, remember ?

We probably will never know how it exactly works.
