Game of Thrones is a television series on HBO based on the bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. Game of Thrones is an epic, high fantasy series about the fight for control of Westeros which was inspired by The War of the Roses in medieval Europe. Though it's been labeled as fantasy, Game of Thrones is more about the struggle for power and family dynamics than it is about typical fantasy tropes like magic and elves. As co-producer and writer David Benioff put it: “If you have to just pick one word to describe it, it’s the word ‘power’ and how it affects those who are pursuing it, and how those who already have it try to retain it, and how those who are caught in the crossfire between the two are mutilated in the process.” In addition to complex characters living in a well thought out and developed world, the story boasts plenty of violence, sex, and other adult oriented content.

The sixth season premieres Sunday, April 24th at 9PM on HBO. The 10 episode season 6 is the first to be largely beyond the plot of George RR Martin’s published books from A Song of Ice and Fire.

HBO’s Press Release on Season 6:
HBO said:
Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of season five, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south.

SPOILER RULES:

- ABSOLUTELY NO BOOK SPOILERS. It doesn't matter if they're under spoiler tags, they should not be in this thread. Use the other thread for book-related television discussion. This includes alluding to things, subtle hinting, comparing the books to the show, etc...

- Regular TV thread rules apply:
  • Once something airs in the US on the East Coast, it's fair game. Feel free to discuss anything that has aired without using spoiler tags.
  • Anything that hasn't aired yet should be spoiler tagged including information from HBO previews, loglines, trailers, interviews, and a few other places.
  • Speculation from people that haven't read the books is fine and encouraged.

- For the non-book readers using this thread:
  • If you have any questions about plot points or want clarification on something, feel free to send a PM to any of the helpful volunteers (see below) and ask them.
  • Pullox
  • WhereAreMahDragonz
  • Lothar

- For the book readers that want to lurk in this thread:
  • No taunting or teasing:
e.g. "Oh, just wait until you guys see what happens to him next week!!!"
  • No leading questions:
e.g. "What do you think will happen to this character by the end of the season?"
  • No comparing the book to the show:
e.g. "Well, that's different than in the book where they..."
  • Answering questions is fine when the information is readily available from what has aired on the show.
e.g. Q: "Wait, how is Robb related to Ned?" A: "Robb is Ned's son."

The bottom line is that this thread was created for people that haven't read the books to enjoy and discuss the television show. Keep their interests in mind and let them enjoy the show on their own terms without constantly pestering them. In general, there isn't a good reason for book readers to post in this thread. Thanks for your help.
I strongly recommend that you subscribe to the appropriate thread and use your subscriptions page to visit the thread.

EDIT: taking it to the relevant thread.

Honestly amazed at the quality of this show. I wasn't a fan from the start, but it continues to escalate in all the right ways.

Not perfectly, some threads like Arya's felt a little rushed, but there's so much pay off elsewhere that I can't dwell on it.

E9 is absolutely incredible.

Great OP, subscribed.

I have always been content to just browse the thread but probably going to post more, after this weeks episode me and my brother talked on the phone for 45 minutes and I still felt into it enough to finally post in the last thread.

Barreling to the end And I am fully in for the rest of the ride.

Do book spoilers count at this point? Are there remaining threads there that could ruin it for TV only viewers?

It's quite simple. This thread contains no book talk. If you want to talk about the books, there's the book thread. If you want to talk about the show and the books, there's the show&book thread. This thread is for the show and only for the show. Spoilers or not.

Yes. Please read the OP. Book discussion in this thread is bannable.

I can't see a part that suggests there are specifically, just how to conduct yourself regarding them. On your advice I'll take my question to the book thread. Thank you.

Need to find a way to slow it down, I've been wondering if Jon cuts off that guy's head (the guy he De-Horse'd)

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
God. I can't believe it's about to be done. This season went by so fast. It's been my favorite so far, hands down. Well, maybe it's tied with season 1.

My prediction:
R.I.P Jaime & Walder

The Winds of Winter (Directed by Miguel Sapochnik)

omg pls pls pls White Walkers go over the wall
Probably too early, but I could imagine the last shot of the season finale being the NK arriving in sight of the wall.
Imo most of ep 10 will be about wrapping up the North (5m), dealing with the Riverrun consequences (5m), Dany's and Yara's deal preparations (5m), Bran arriving at Castle Black (5m), Sam starting as a Maester (5m), but the vast bulk (40m+) will be about the Trial and its far reaching consequences in KL.

Oh, and maybe Hound scene and Arya scene for 2m each.

I want the White walkers to at least reach the wall/confront bran.

More excited to see if Kings Landing goes up in flames though. Not only do I want the High Sparrow and the Faith Militant wiped off the face of Westeros, I wouldn't mind Tommen and Cersei going out as a twofer. Only royal I care about is Margery, maybe Loras.

If Qyburn lights the match per se on Cersei's orders I don't expect him to sit around waiting to see what happens.

While I think the White Walkers will be involved in one way or another, I can easily imagine the finale ending with Dany sailing across the Narrow Sea. If nothing else, this show really likes closing episodes (and seasons) with her doing something really triumphant with lots of people around who are super stoked about said triumphant thing.

it pisses me off so much that its like 10 ep per season a show like this needs 20.

Argh. we barely get started before the season is over.

I wonder if the Sand Snakes are going to make an appearance in the final episode, their storyline was kinda horrible to begin with but they've just basically disappeared now.

If not the snakes, then probably Ellaria Sand will meet with Varys who will convince her to let Dany invade Westeros via Dorne. That's my bet anyway.

I really wish they had done one of those events where they stream an episode to a movie theater. I watched at home with my 100" projector screen, but I wanted more! Gladly would have dropped $15 to watch ep 9 in a theater with a great sound system.
