Everything Bethesda. Every dam thing character model wise.

I thought the Fallout 4 characters as a whole were pretty decent and a major step up compared to every other Bethesda title. Hair is always an issue, but the slightly stylized non-photorealism didn't stand out as being godawful like so many of their past titles. The character creator was surprisingly versatile too, and I remember seeing some shots of convincingly recreated celebrities with drastically different face shapes and features.

The original Lara Croft CGI model, whenever she was standing next to other characters. Other characters (at last in TR4 and 5) were modeled realistically, with proper facial structure, skin shaders, proper body proportions. Next to them was Lara Croft, stuck with her 1996 CGI model, with bug eyes, Micheal Jackson-like nose, huge lips, and body proportions of a sex doll. She looked like an alien.

That shot looks like one of those Garry's Mod scenes where someone's imported a bunch of ripped models from games with mismatched artstyles.

100% agree with everything. DXHR was probably my #1 favorite game of last gen, but those characters were pretty janky. The faceted modeling style (seen in your Pritchard shot) was applied inconsistently across characters, and their proportions were often bizarre with elongated necks and strangely wide set shoulders.

There are a few Pokemon 3D models that I really dislike and some that ruin the Pokemon for me. An example of a minor offender would be Arbok and his stupid straight tail when he should obviously be coiled, but the worst that comes to mind is this disaster:

So far my biggest complaint with Sun/Moon is that they're keeping the same old models and poses for old Pokémon, although I suppose it makes sense.

Alex is my main character in SFV (and 3rd Strike!), I was so excited when they announced him till this...

(and the squat winning animation, OMG kill it with fire!)
And I don't even mind his terrible new hair.

I thought I was crazy for thinking just about every character model in this game looked hideous. It felt like they just outsourced everything. Such a disappointment. Unlike you though, I didn't care for the game. Tried as hard as I could, but it was just a little too cold and sterile, and I couldn't bear Adam's voice.

I completely agree. I am only in the first part of Deus Ex Human Revolution but wow those character models and movements are really awkward. But the gameplay is incredible so I think we can let that slide.

How would you render Ran Mouri's hair in 3D?

Well, in the Wii game at least, it's just a horn. As you'd expect, it doesn't look good.

It is possible to do it well, though. In Epic Mickey, they implemented some fancy tech to ensure that Mickey's ears were always both visible; I believe his ears are a separate 3D model that actually rotates around his head as necessary, or something like that. It worked quite well, in any case. His silhouette always looks like Mickey.

Ugh god yes. I played like 100 hours of the game but I don't know how they fucked up so badly on just basic proportions - not only of people but of the levels and objects in the world. Good art direction but some really peculiar technical aspects to that game.

Yeah Alex's legs really bother me.

Most annoying model/character ever, omg.

Bethesda's character models on Fallout and ES have seemed atrocious compared to what their contemporaries were doing at the same time. Probably because you spend so much time up in their faces during dialogue.

Well to be fair they didn't look any better in other situations. They generally moved in a very stiff looking manner and it required mods to even have them hold a gun correctly. I don't think the models are horrid but the animation most certainly is.

Since DetectiveGaf let me down, I found the game from my post...Vandal Hearts. Longtime PSOne Classic. Early games and art looked solid, but later on...nope. Just nope. I never played the games, but the character models look atrocious.

Glad to a we another person is familiar with the elegance of moonwalking out of awkward situations. Stand by your guns...just not Overwatches. You aren't alone, I'm not that keen on the game either. I'm sure there are plenty more of us out there somewhere....DOZENS!!!

Man that's atrocious.

This doesn't even look like Akane.

The worst part isn't visible in a screenshot: The animation. Eric and Mira are just hideous with how they animate.

And while not quite as bad, Ganondorf in Melee was kind of doughy and off. His face in the current game is markedly worse than Brawl, as well...

That's because his Melee appearance is based on Ocarina of Time where he looked even more effed up. By the time Brawl came out they had better looking Zelda games than that to work from.

The first I had ever seen of Xenosaga Episode 3 was its official strategy guide. I remember laughing as soon as I saw all the anime-style illustrations within. They knew they fucked up.

Xenosaga 3's art and character designs are far better than anything else from the Xeno franchise.

XC has some nice 2D art, but the actual models are the second worst in the series, only to Xenosaga 1.

I actually think he almost looks worse in Melee than OoT, artistically. But even putting that aside, there are plenty of other adaptations of the OoT design that look perfectly okay - the Hyrule Warriors model and OoT3D (especially the artwork, but the actual remade model doesn't look bad), for example. Though to be fair, the Spaceworld model that was a major influence on the version of OoT Ganondorf in Melee is rougher than all of them.

Another good one are some of The Lion King models in Kingdom Hearts 2; in particular, Scar and Young Simba never change expressions aside from smiling, and it's woefully awkward in scenes where they're meant to emote anything else. I can't find any good screenshots (aside from dead Scar), so here's some videos of both.

While we're on the subject of KH, I always thought Rabbit looked rather...unpleasant.

Controversial(?) because the graphics were praised to the moon and back, but I hate, hate hate the new Lara model. Christ alive, it's so plain and lacking in character, particularly in game.

When they've nailed it in concept art:

What they did to Typhlosion was even more egregious.

Resident Evil 5 Chris default costume character model, his arms so ridiculously huge his biceps are as big as his head, thankfully in RE6 they toned it down, it's still plain that Chris is jacked but his proportions are far more believable in RE6 compared to RE5.

Loli's. All of them. Not mature females who just don't have a protruding chest, I don't care, but supposedly aged females(1000 year old seems to be the favorite) stuck in the body of a 7 year old girl. No.

I'm a big opponent to censorship, but if we could raise the age of the standard game protagonist and his/her merry band of friends by about 3-5 years, where it makes sense, I would appreciate it. Teenagers are fine in games like Persona, they are high schoolers, but in many other games, particularly in jrpgs, the protagonists could be in their twenties with no issues.
