Other than the cargo ship, you could just step outside and go for a walk. :p

I'm just messing, but I do find it interesting that people often pursue a planet that looks very similar to earth, often measuring the quality of a planet with regards to how closely it matches earth's features. It's interesting how influential familiarity is on appeal.

Ran into an ocean planet with small islands. It housed 10 species, but fauna was noted as rare. In the hour I spent there I only found one species.

Interestingly, it was a fish on land. It stood mouth down tail up and spun in circles. I'm not sure if that was a glitch, or by procedural design.

I see this comment all the time and relate to it, lol. It makes me happy that as human beings all we want is another Earth. Like, we love our home just that much. There's pretty much nobody out there thinking 'this planet is a shithole'. Rather we think 'man, could there be anywhere in the universe as cool as this?' 'How great would another earth be? Same colours, same oceans... just give us MORE EARTH!'

Shame how we treat it, seeing as we love it so damn much.

I don't know if it's common knowledge, most likely is, but I recently realised that you can upload empty planets and that this still counts towards your 'zoologist' milestones.

I assume this is an oversight, as zoologist inherently implies that you have seen and uploaded some wildlife, yet as it turns out, that is not a requirement.

Hehe yeah that happened to me a few times. Had a weird eyeball octopus thinger just glitching out on the land. I couldnt scan it, so then I killed it and was able to.

Is it just me or is it impossible to scan the flying creatures? I always have to kill them and then try to figure out where they landed (sometimes quite hard in dense foliage).

I'm not sure if it's a distance thing, I've had better luck being closer to them but it's hard enough to be basically impossible. I've had to shoot them down basically every time.

Is there any consensus on progress the zoology scans on a planet to 100% if all the "?????" boxes have been checked and it's still showing something like 93%?

My planet has 14 boxes and all are checked but it's still sitting at 93%. I know that I can find and scan other variants of a species but most of the time it'll just replace the one I had previously discovered and the percentage won't increase.

I gave up and just started submitting planets with 0 wildlife, which also counts towards the same milestone.

I've scanned a few in the sky, but I was usually fairly high up on a hill, or they were quite large flying creatures.

Haha yeah I've submitted two like that as well. I'm not in a rush to get the milestone/trophy as I know I'll get there eventually. I just am trying to wrap my head around how some of these things are implemented so I'm not constantly bumping my head into them.

I really love the game, I am hooked, addicted... cant stop playing... but... why isnt there more variety in the planets themselves? We live in a solar system with a lot of diversity in that regard: Mars, Pluto, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, etc... but in the game every planet seems to be the same. Most of them even has the same species... I found a tree and a rock type that is on every planet I visited so far... and all have the same weather and all. I would like to see some planet variety (like Hoth, or something like Mercury, a lava planet, for example). And the plants and animals to match the planet. This is its biggest flaw so far: the planets. The rest is great

I could never scan a flying creature. One bird that I need just flies forward basically making it impossible to scan. Can't shoot it down either.

weird, never seen a planet with 0 life...
So you just upload the planet and the count goes up ? aka, I would get the bronze trophy right after uploading the planet ?

I've come across a few. In the Discovery section of the menu there'll be no checkboxes and it'll say "100% upload for 0 units" or something. You can still upload the "discovery" towards your zoology milestone, but you obviously don't get any cash from it.

It is a shame.
Honestly if I could have internet and the common stuff I do use and live somewhere away from cities and stuff I would.

Though I did move from AZ to a much greener state. AIR!!!

Landed on an awesome planet yesterday, pretty disappointed to see it was already discovered by someone else. Great conditions for hours of walking about, very nice looking (somehow the lush grass is pink during the day and purple at night), lots of gold, and even the sentinels are really nice.

Upgrade that FTL son. And visit some colorful stars.

Came across the worst glitch you can possibly have...a game save breaking one.

Was shooting a Sentinel when my multitool and plasma grenades stopped working for a good 45 seconds. It started working again so I didn't think much of it and got back in my ship and explored around for another 2 hours. I got to an outpost where the Korvax guy there offered me a multitool, I accidentally accept without breaking down my previous upgrades for the different crafting ingredients so I reload my save to do it again. The game loads up and the area I was at was from 2 hours earlier in the game right before that multitool glitch happened!

Even though I got in my ship multiple times since then and it said it was saving, it didn't. So basically the save system has stopped working and doesn't save no matter what I've tried. The weirdest part is that the save file thinks it is saving. The time stamp on the save on the OS level changes to the current time but the one in-game is stuck in the same spot. If this doesn't get patched, I'll be done with this game which is a shame because I was really enjoying it.

So if you are playing the game and your multitool stops working for a minute or so, don't save after that and exit your game and load your save back up to when before it happened. Perhaps it is a coincidence but seems weird that the game save system froze when that glitch happened.

:(

I'm in a system with a single planet and a single moon and neither has animal life. You can still scan some of the organic formations and upload them for cash but there's no ????? on the discovery menu. I didn't even realize uploading discoveries was a thing until I'd hit my third system, so despite not 100%ing any planets, I still cleared 100,000 units just uploading everything I'd been to. Almost makes me want to go back to the starter system and get the last couple species for an extra 200,000, but not enough to overwhelm the sense of discovery of pushing forward to see what new discoveries await. This game is much better than I anticipated after reading all the doom and gloom at release.

Forgot to ask earlier....

I was flying around in space and I saw something that said "Distress Signal" it was a floating marker in the middle of nothing, when I approach it nothing happened, there was nothing there....?

Am I missing something here guys? I thought that the game had bounties of some sort later on, what that iy?

Odd, for me planets with no life are more common than those with life. You can tell right after landing by pausing it and seeing it doesn't have any check boxes.

Bear in mind that I'm only talking about animals here, planet life is separate and does not count. I don't think I've ever seen a planet without both animals and plants.

For some reason though I could only upload the planet with 0 wildlife when I was actually on it, I tried going back and uploading all that I had been to and it didn't seem to work, but not sure if that was a bug or what. Either way, I've uploaded 5 like this now, and it's a hell of a lot easier than finding 15 randomly placed animals.

This seems to happen a lot.

Ha, need iridium and all the asteroids here are copper. I bet there's a way to tell what asteroid resources a system features most commonly.

How do you do this? I've been to a few planets with 0 stuff and uploaded them, but I still have nothing on my milestone.

You can try blowing up freighter containers for Iridium, got some last time I did it.

I flew to my first green star last night, and the first planets is easily the best, weirdest planet I have been to yet. Great color scheme. Giant flying snakes up in the air. And rich with resources.

How have people been getting atlas pass V2? through operations centres? I have been hitting up manufacturing facilities as well, I am getting lots of material recipes too.

including this one!

I find Iridium the most in the large planetary resource rocks.
Iridium is plentiful in my system as the larger rocks, but closer to some planets I find more Iron sprinkled in.

Haven't run into nickle or crystals yet, but am still taking my sweet time exploring one system right now, because its good a lush and mild moon with large gold deposits. Was mining what seemed like an 8 story pylon of gold last night, but I prefer finding crystals of the stuff in caves.

So last night I found a cool little mini volcano-looking mountain and decided to carve myself out a cave in the base of it just because. I ended up blasting a hole through the game's geometry and very foolishly decided to take a plunge, completely ignoring how I might get back to my grave should I die. I had a mild panic attack trying to figure out my way back to terra firma, but streamed that part so that I could go back and look at it.

The stream quality was absolute garbage last night for some reason, but I make it out right around the 4:30 mark just when the stream quality drops to sub-20p potato.

Anyways, I thought you might be interested to see how the game stitches together land pieces, or cave networks, at least on the planet I'm on.
