I used to use optical until I realized it couldn't do HD audio... Couldn't you do optical from your TV to receiver? That's what I do for my PSTV.

I'd say slim is more important. Will probably always be the better selling SKU vs Neo and the bulk of their profit will cone from that.

Sony already did an all-matte PS4 with their stealth revision to the OG model. That being said, I dig this revision. I think rounded corners are cool. Everyone who doesn't like rounded corners is pretty square.

I don't think aesthetics really matter with consoles.
As i can't see people buying an Xbox over a Playstation because it looks nicer.
It certainly never was a factor when I bought my VHS looking Xbox One.

plus the slim likely leaked because stores already have them to go on sale immediately after sony announces it whereas the neo won't be on store shelves until october at the earliest
makes you wonder how people would've reacted if this wasn't leaked. if Sony got to present it to the world first; with better lighting, photos, and a good video presentation. Not saying they'd love it, but it would be interesting to see if the "hate" would be the same.
Depends how cheap it is. Being that I'm in the market for a PS4, I'd be all over this but the Neo is on the top of my list at the moment. But I love how low-profile the Slim is, and it would fit perfectly on my entertainment center under my PS3.
September 7 will be very interesting...

Not planning on upgrading after I built my desktop, but does anyone else wonder why the slim doesn't retain that split design look of the original PS4? The logos for the PS4 all reflect this. They didn't even need a light, just a small indent for consistency's sake.
It looks like a giant eraser dipped in oil. But like very sexy oil you use on your lady friends. Might be called lube in some countries.

Like 90% of TVs do not pass through 5.1 through the optical out. It's usually 2.0, I specifically bought a TV that did 5.1 out just in case, but nowadays I just use ARC therefore mitigating the issue.
It doesn't have a 4K upscaler. Its basically a redesigned OG PS4. They are intentionally segmenting their budget PS4 redesign from their NEO model in featureset.
If you only care about the base PS4 experience, the slim will be there, if you want extra, the NEO is also an option. The OG PS4 is being discontinued, so they will only have the two options.
Very cheap optical splitters exist, just buy one of those, its very simple
The doubt likely was because of it ending up in a classified ad for not much money.
The story of a PS Slim existing is much less interesting to be than how the hell an unreleased console like this ended up on Gumtree.

They might be able to play around a tiny little bit, but yeah, if its coming soon the HW is locked and has been for a while.

yeah that i can understand, but it just makes for a lot of hardware all at once if you count VR as well. Unless neo isnt coming out this year, i see this as "way too packed" type of senario
it's pretty stupid of a company to base their products around optical audio connections. i know hdmi is a pain in the ass with handshake issues and all that, but still
hd audio has been around for years, and years, now. optical needs to be put to bed
