PS4 Slim Unboxing Video

Looks cute and I'd be in it to buy it if it doesn't sound like a fighter jet but until real world impressions come out.. I'll file this as pass. I want the ps2 days when something that slim didn't have no a damn sound.

Hopefully they talk more about this at the event. Can't be bothered with the speculation right now.

People really lashed out at first lol. There was literally nothing wrong with the way the console looked. It's simple but hardly "ugly"

I honestly like how it looks. Just hate the light bar. Literally NO ONE asked for another light bar.

There's no way this ting is less than $299

If it does I will deep fry my ps4 controller and eat it on twitch

i have no idea why anyone would buy this when the original is getting cheaper, and the neo is supposedly right around the corner

The original will be phased out, this replaces the original so Sony can sell it cheaper than OG MSRP while still maintaining margins and strengthen their userbase even further while Neo provides high end performance for the hardcore? Neo isn't going to bring killer numbers

Idk, the ps4 slim is incredibly traditional

That's great. I'm just saying as responsible person making an income, if you already have a PS4 there is no reason to buy this slim. The difference you would pay from selling your current PS4 or trading it in for the S would have better value being applied to a NEO. you gain nothing by getting the slim except about a centimeter of height. And let's say you spent $150 on the difference to upgrade, you wouldn't Make that money back in energy costs with power efficiency in the year before the NEO came out.

The Slim is clearly a redesigned PS4 probably with a die shrink and removal of any unnecessary features. It's not for Current PS4 owners but for the price conscious mass market. It'll a good bit cheaper to make and at $249 it'll wreak devastation. Neo is for Current PS4 owners to buy

GAF is probably not the target market for this thing. Step out of the bubble and it's easy to see why people would buy this: A) it's going to replace the original SKU and B) it's going to be available for the holidays.

I'm bookmarking this post, because I think there's a not so slim possibility of this being $249.

And I would really enjoy watching someone eating a PS4 controller.

This will be built on smaller node process so it offers a few inherent advantages.
- Quieter
- Runs cooler
- Less power use potentially
- Improved WiFi (rumored, not related to node shrink)
- Possibly resolved the thermal paste issues

This will also have a new warranty and a new controller. Let's say if this is $250, I traded in my PS4 for $200, so it's only about $50 for the difference, might come with a bundled game and I can always get HDMI/Optical splitter if I really need it. If it's $300, there will be deals on BF.

Yep my thoughts exactly, thanks.

In what way? The PS4 slim is noticeabley smaller.

You know what they meant. The S is a better value in terms of what was done to it. Nothing was removed aside from Kinect port and no one cared for that anyway. It added UHD playback, allowed for vertical orientation, moved the usb from the side to the front, and slimmed the profile considerably (with inclusion of internal power supply too). The post didn't mean it's thinner.

Saying that I can certainly understand why Sony did this and I do like the matte unibody design versus the original PS4. I was the same way with the first PS3 revision. It produced a better looking product. The first gen always has look at me features that don't translate to anything other than oohs and ahhs. This is an improvement in production costs among others and I'm perfectly fine with that. I won't replace my Destiny PS4 with it but if I do buy another for my bedroom I'd certainly consider it over finding an older first gen PS4.

Aesthetics
Subjective. White is sexy, a white PS4S would look just as good if not better than the square white VCR imo

and functionality.
Let's wait for specs, but PS4S will still be the more powerful console of the two anyway, and for 4K users the Neo would pick up the slack with even more power under the hood (and easily be the most powerful console for upward of a whole year).

It's definitely ugly. Not because it's "simple". It's just poorly designed, probably in an attempt to make it as shockingly cheap as possible. Which, in all honesty I'm probably ok with? If they get this thing to $250/$199, I'll buy it day one. I sold my Destiny PS4 simply because I couldn't justify owning a $400 console that I kept in a closet for 9-10 months out of the year until the odd exclusive released that I was interested in. For $199 though, I'd shove an ugly little PS4 into the back of my entertainment center for sure.

That's what "AVAILABLE NOW" announcements risk. Consoles are on their way to the stores already.

I think your on to something here. What if it was Sony who leaked these to market first in an attempt to put all eyes on the slim for the next couple of weeks? It's definitely a risk going for the available now approach but maybe this is damage limitation to keep focus off Neo until PSM reveal?

Watch the differences between this and Neo in quality and design. What an absolute joke the slim model has turned out to be. People are still calling it fake still.

I think Neo will be ready imminently given we already have a box of the slim.

That's my theory, and if true it was pretty smart to raise awareness (versus arrival of XB1S $299) without dumping on the sales of PS4 for unaware buyers.

I'm betting on $249. No way in hell is it gonna be higher than $299

$249 is a $100 cut from the OG, unless Sony managed to save *that* much from a revision $299 is much more realistic

It might be a receive a price cut by the end of next year or something that brings it to $249 but right out of the gate? I hope you are not holding your breath

Doesn't mean I don't want this to be $249, I just want this to be under $400 CAD lol

It's not another light bar. They just made the touchpad translucent at the top.

16nm alone could cut the price quite a bit.

Like, I dont even care about the design. Not sure what people expect, but it's smaller, and that's awesome.

Make it cheap, and sell like crazy. If Sony can go as low as $200 or $250, it'd be amazing.

I wonder how much this will cost in Canada, because I really want to consider selling my Fatty

Great! I have to spend more money for an extra accessory that I haven't had to since the PS3!

unfortunately, there comes a point where you have to move on from legacy hardware...optical audio offers zero advantages over HDMI except for maybe cost...it cant support any of the newer audio formats available today...Sony (or anybody for that matter) has no obligation to continue to support outdated I/O options...

Motorola has dumped the 3.5mm jack from their latest smartphones...Apple will likely do the same on the iPhone (which ironically will be shown off the same day as the PlayStation meeting)...times change, and i understand it may suck for those that have older receivers without HDMI...or use optical for their headphones...

but eventually technology moves on, and you have to get with the times...OR deal with, like you said paying extra money for accessories like converters...

Give Sony $100~$150 increase for Canada

This is likely replacing the original. Also, this is likely the new entry model PS4 for those who may not want to shell out the extra cash for the PS4 Neo.

It looks like it has better build quality, just more solid in general. I don't plan on buying one, but I hope it's less flimsy feeling than the original. Hoping for the same for the DS4.

Seems weird the two on eBay are only £299 or £500 right now. Just think a dude spent like $1300 to get NO MANS SKY a little early. There are some crazy ass people out there..

Getting a PS4 Slim at least three weeks before they even officially announce it? I am surprised people haven't listed these at over £1000.

I'm glad that I didn't get a DualShock 4 at the mall last weekend now that I know the revision is coming out.

I was kinda hoping that Sony would switch to USB Type-C for the DS4 revision, but I understand why they didn't (for the sake of consistency with the original DS4).

$250 Slim
$399 Neo

That's what I believe.

I'm gonna say

$279.99 Slim
$429.99 Neo

if only because most people are guessing the same thing so this changes it up a bit while still being plausible.

Slim slightly undercuts X1S at this price while still leaving room for $250 holiday bundles.

Don't get why so many people are calling this ugly, it looks pretty nice. And the spaced USB ports could allow a hub to attach to the console without obscuring the 2nd usb port.

Plus it's easier to tell whose arcade stick is plugged into where without accidentally screwing over the other person.

It's probably been said already but the most likely reason some people managed to get their hands on an unannounced product is because Sony was/are planning to announce it and have it available the same day, or very shortly afterwards.

Also, most likely Sony could have gone for $299 already but they didn't have an incentive really. Now, they have a cheaper to produce version that they could offer on $249 price tag, and it would be similar to when they cut PS2 price to $199. Sales would increase this winter and Sony would make more money on PS+, game licensing and accessories.

We shall see though. They could just go safe route and come out with $299 and only drop to $249/279 for Black Friday.
