Steamspy Data - No Man's Sky active players down over 90% in just 2 weeks

Ps4 player here. Returned the game back to amazon. And bought Deus ex with that money. Deus ex is so good. Glad I returned no man's sky. What a terrible game imo. One of the worst and most boring game I ever played.

I don't see why it would be hugely different on other platforms.

Eh. It can be. Like despite reports of The Division losing a lot of players (mainly using PC stats), you still see many players on PS4. So it may actually be different enough.

This is probably my biggest day 1 purchase I regret since I got Destiny, can't believe I spent more than 30 hours on this disappointment

I don't think the game is bad but dear god there are so many flaws and the chunks that were cut out of the game left me bitter. Also to quote VideoGameDunkey, "No Man's Sky, More like NO GUY BUY"

It's a really fun game, but after playing straight for two weeks and getting the Platinum, it's not a game to play constantly. Its something to pick up occasionally to relax and wind down.

You do the same thing over and over again. It shouldn`t take too long to figure out. No surprise here.

Typical mobile game.

So it's a mobile game. Got it.
Mobile gaming. Typical 15 minutes of fame.
its a shallow as fuck game.......and had mobile excitement written all over it
This happens to every "big" app unless you're Snapchat or messenger. A dip is not unexpected, nor will a surge. It will fluctuate from here no doubt.
That's a mobile game for you.
Well duh... Its a mobile game. Even my dad played it for a week before uninstalling it...

Its almost like people willl stop playing your game if its boring and vapid. Sorry if thats harsh, i was really dissapointed in the game, I wanted to and still want to love it.

That's abysmal for a survival/exploration game. Those games usually have legs and start to drop off in increments but such a drop in such a short amount of time is actually insane. It dropped from 212K to 40K peak within a week of launch.

Not surprising. Randomly generated everything and quantity over quality just isn't a good premise for compelling gameplay.

I'm honestly surprised that so many people were hotly anticipating this game over the years.

Everyone jumped down people's throats when they said "but what do you do in NMS?" It turns out, we weren't wrong to ask that question.

There's not much there.

I've played it on PS4 for a couple of hours and stopped because the low number of equipment slots in a collectible-heavy game makes no sense for me. I don't plan to get back to it unless there are some heavy balance changes.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
I think PC players are more prone to go back to whatever game they are playing all the time compared to console gamers. Back to CS:GO, or Dota, or LOL, or WoW.. whatever.

Still, a bad look for HG going forward.

There is nothing to the game once you realise just how same-y everything is. I enjoyed my first few jumps, but after about 10 hours or so I came to the realisation that a game based on discovery had very little to discover.
If there's enough variety to keep it fresh for a whopping 10 hours, then that's not as bad as I thought. Some people didn't get bored until 40-50 hours in, but realistically, that's the case for the majority of games, so that's impressive.

Definitely one of the fastest drops I've seen, mostly due to the huge success of the launch numbers due to pre-orders

I love exploration games but they usually have something genuinely compelling in their game play.

NMS did not, even the exploration was extremely shallow. At no point did I feel like the game mechanics were building up to something greater by playing off each other.

It is easy to see why all these people just stopped playing.

I was going to pick it up at PC launch. Saw its troubles. Then read more about it.

I doubt I will ever buy this game no matter the price.

Probably because the PS4 had a much higher initial install base. The % drop in players might still be the same.

From what I heard the reason why everyone stopped playing was that it had a bunch of glitches which made normal progress useless. Also apparently the end game sucked big time. Both are really bad for player retention.

BTW what does "see many players" mean? Can you see total player count somewhere?

You know it's bad when Sean Murray hasn't tweeted a single thing in almost a week.

well this stupid game basically discouraged you from actually doing the exploring by nagging the shit out of you/resource management

Infinite exploration! but we're going to annoy you every step of the way!

not only active users, but the peak on steam went from 222k to 105 in just 24 hours...and now its at less than 40k. refunds are strong.

And some people were shocked at Pokemon Go's drop.

This was expected with people saying how repetitive it was after a few hours.

Pokémon Go is equally repetitive but it has the nostalgia angle for it and the fact that, even if you're just doing the same thing again and again, at least you're doing it outside where you have the chance to interact with others.

It's amazing to me how people weren't able to see how this would end up just by watching footage of the game. I never understood the hype for the game.

Curious as to how it'll be once all the issues are fixed and they get to work on the new content.

They've had a Driveclub-level of poor release PR. I love the game but for those not really following it, it's going to look like a trainwreck from the outside.

I'm not confident that they could fix all of the issues without pretty much remaking a lot of the game. I wonder if Hello Games even know where to start. All the talk about base building in a future update suggests they don't even get their own game.

what's harder than impossible?

Unpossible?
