Battlefield 1 Premium includes 4 themed expansion packs with 16 maps and more

every single big FPS game has gone down like this for me

2 months before release: "well, I really do enjoy this kind of game, so I may as well buy the ultimate edition"

release: fuck I love this game, playing 5 hours a day for 2 weeks

1 month after release: ooh, new shiny game, i'll come back to you though don't worry bae

6 months after release: shit, I forgot to try out the last two DLCs. May as well play. WTF is going on, I'm dying in 3 seconds every spawn and have no idea where to go and why does my weapon suck so bad now? Fuck this shit.

12 months after release: fuck, the season pass is now 90% off. Wish I had waited.

Battlefield 1, Battlefield Hardline, Black Ops 3, Battlefront, Destiny, Division, Rainbow Six, the list is endless.

Gonna jump in with just the base game, and maybe buy the premium after 3 months if I am still playing regularly. Which I am 99% sure I will not be.

To be honest... Battlefield Premium has probably been the only season pass I ever thought was worth it. Will buy.

And unlike most devs, they actually fixed the game and have provided meaningful updates for a lot longer than they needed to. I'm still playing bf4.

Battlefront is still getting major balance tweaks, and was really a mess for a long time.

Anybody skeptical about the pricetag of this thing should just wait.

Wow.... first Titanfall 2 shot itself in the face and now Battlefield 1 costs twice the price of one game. I think I'll be skipping the shooters this fall. What a load of crap.

Twice the price of one game? What are you even talking about?

I find it funny that people think this is something new, when they did the same for BF3, BF4, Hardline and Battlefront

Eh, I'll just wait until 2 years from now when they release all the expansion's for free like with battlefield 4. Got plenty of other stuff to play.

Disappointing that they still go the map pack route considering how many other games are moving away from that. Kind of a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I'll probably just wait for a sale on the base game at this point. Got burned on premium with BF4 so I'm not doing it again. You'd think with only one half-full server for each of your new DLC modes, Naval Strike withstanding (though not much better), it'd be time to change your approach to monetization after initial purchase.

What has the retention rate for DLC on Battlefront even been, if anyone knows? I'm sure it can't be that good, it never really is.

This is exactly how I feel. I did with both 3 & 4 and I had absolutely no regrets. I put a lot of time into both games, and I feel like the extra price was justified with all of the extra content that came with it. As interested as I am about Titanfall 2, all the negativity has kind of concerned me a bit. Until I can check it out myself, it's safe to say Battlefield 1 will for sure be the shooter I'll be playing this holiday season.

Not interested in paid maps.

It's a complete scam that people who buy map packs down the line have no servers to play on. It's a shitty practice to split the userbase and friends too. I dont support it when other games do it for free

The problem with Dice games and seasons passes is they take too fucking long to get all the packs out, way too long. It makes them much less appealing knowing every time you will be half way through the next year before you get half of what you bought in the pass. I'm done with that.

Pffftt, yeah okay.

Will wait 2 years down the line when they give them away for free.
Exactly just sit back and enjoy the ride. I bought bf4 for 5 dollars and have all the dlc for free.

Other people might not wait too long, but at least wait a few months for the first sale or price drop.

imo season pass and buying all the map packs is just waste of value for me.

take black ops 3 for example, first time I ever purchase DLC or a season pass. by the first map pack me and my friends weren't playing it as much but we still played, second map pack comes, playing it even less. 3rd map pack has been out awhile now and I haven't touched the zombie map yet and hardly played the game.

by the time the 4th map pack hits I dunno if I will play it, I don't even play the game solo any more as I get bored to quickly.

Also, maybe it's a console thing where DLC maps aren't used. Even to this day there's servers that cycle through the best maps of each pack.

All of the map packs are regularly played on PS4. There are servers hat combine all of them and servers for individual packs. No problems finding any of them, played Last Stand and the Naval one yesterday.

Wont buy it right away, but will probably eventually pick it up. Battlefield 4's seasons pass was amazing in content.

?

So people wanting it not to be so expensive are wrong, even though you point out how expensive it is?

You you agree with them.

I just think paying for something that people have to spend time and effort on makes sense. Season passes are almost the friendlier model if you actually want to buy the stuff. If I wanted to buy all the skins in League or Overwatch it would cost me a lot more money and time than if I wanted to get them all in Battlefield 4. I was in favor of the MTs way to supplement free maps but I kind of get tired of the gambling and the grinds that they do to make up for it. Grass is always greener I guess.

It makes me sad that DICE hasn't moved away from this model, but I'll still buy the season pass anyways. You do get some variety out of it, and as long as there is still a server browser I can find a conquest game.

Community fragmentation is a big problem. At a more basic level than map-pack fragmentation, just the fact that BF1 and TF2 are releasing almost back to back is comically. Or would be, if it wasn't also so sad and pointless.

Why? They will cannaibilize each other. Or rather, TF2 is going to suffer and that just isn't fair.

I feel the problem is that you have a certain player base on origin, and those who play DLC maps, or those who play a competitor shooter, will render the userbase smaller and that will hurt the avilability of servers and players. I only play 64 player servers, and I like being able to scout through many of them to find the ones with the lowest ping and a ruleset and server settings I like. BF players know that community servers that you come back to are so important, and the beauty of it, is that you inject yourself into a server community.

I think EA is not fully understanding how the community feels. That doesn't mean I don't think a post release plan is a bad way to go. I just don't want players be fragmented. I wish non-pass players could play on the DLC maps. then they at least can play together.

Maybe this is what they should do for TF2/BF1 cross promotion. Allow free weekends for the opposite game you don't own, inviting players from both communities to play together.

Will cop, day 1.

BF3 and BF4 Premium were fantastic deals and the community doesn't dump those games so they had quite the legs.

Looking forward to it.

It comes down to how much value you find in it. I played enough of the premium maps that it felt like a good deal to me. Since BF doesn't launch every year, I always buy Premium, but even though I buy COD yearly, I have no interest in buying a season pass because I know the next one is coming next year.

I dunno how they get away with this when most games just give most the dlc for free now. Im tempted to not even get it just like i didnt the Battlefront one.

I wish they'd go the optional microtransaction route. Keep the community intact.

Jup agree. They even have the whole system of battlepacks in place. Flesh it out more and Battlefield is great for very large customization for vehicles and soldiers without even touching the gameplay side of it.. Then drop maps, weapons with maybe monthly free dlc. They probably even make more money then.

Wasn't there an absolutely massive thread about France not being in the game?

Looks like we know where they went.

Yup, same here. They released the expansion packs one by one for free and there were plenty of people playing them (on PS4 at least).

I'm always at odds with this because the premium does provide a lot of content over the life of the game but it also segments the player base way too much to give it legs or to populate servers heavily. I wish they would price it a bit lower as a compromise so more people could potentially get it and the DLC population wouldn't be so sparse
I played BF4 since launch and still play on both PC and Xbox 1 and have never seen population problems for the DLC maps at any point. Not sure where youre getting that from.

I agree paid map packs should be a thing of the past though. Expecting my casual gamer friends to drop $100 on BF1 is unlikely. It took literally years for the DLC BF4 maps to become free - so thats not really feasible if I really like the game.

i hope they stay far far away from that shitshow i've seen in other games.

Shortcuts? Edit: Also battlepacks?? The shitshow is already there in addition to these premium prices. No one is batting an eye

Seriously, this just splits the playerbase. DICE has shown they can't implement proper map rotations with DLC. People play the same 4 maps for a month or so and then move back to the vanilla servers. Its dumb.

Are they doing the gold packs and such included with premium? Didn't see a mention, if not seems pointless buying premium right away.

Would have preferred that they took a Rainbow Six: Siege approach to the DLC. Create two currencies, lock cosmetics behind paywalls of in-game currency and purchasable currency, as well as new weapons, cosmetics, and elite classes. New vehicles and maps would be free. A season pass of $30 could get you all bonus DLC content for free and earlier. But really all I care about are the maps being free to all.
