I played a VR game of his at an event like two years ago. Was obviously kind of early, but it showed promise.

Gave it a try on non-VR, control takes a little getting used to with a mouse but it is buttery smooth... just make sure you dial down the mouse sensitivity first or you'll be in for one heck of a headache!

The screenshot alone can cause an epileptic seizure, let alone in motion and in VR; so I'm probably going to pass on this.

Love Minters games and I am glad to see Minotaur Rescue getting some new life. His iOS games are the reason I keep an old ipad around.

Should I plan on needing to use ReVive to get this working on Vive? I don't mind using ReVive, I'd just like to know in advance so I can waste as little time as possible when I get home from work today. Website only mentions Oculus.

ahahaha, the dude literally cannot stop making tempest

Because he's the father of modern tempest. There is nothing wrong with perfecting your craft. TxK is to Tempest what Pacman CE is to Pacman.

Space Giraffe didn't have any trouble.

Because Space Giraffe is quite different from Tempest.

I know, but the post I quoted makes it seem like this is only being made because he can't make Tempest.

He made this before he made TxK VR. This is 2 years old.

The point is that it's a tube shooter with similar graphics. But not so fucking similar as to clone the exact look of the flippers and tanks and shit.

TxK could have been called something else and used changed designs and names for the claw and the enemies and played exactly the same and it would have been left alone.

"Supertapper" instead of "Superzapper"? That's legal suicide.

Actually managed to try a version of this 2 years ago (and listen to a Jeff Minter talk on how he got started in game dev. And about his sheep.)

Psychedelic as all hell but surprisingly intuitive.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of classic arcade game clones at least this blatant. Including Minter's own Llamatron, for example. It would be unprecedented for any of these to actually lose a legal battle if they don't use characters or trademarked names.

But it's a legal battle that isn't worth it for him to fight. Even if he won, he'd lose more money than the game could make him. They win just by being bigger and having deeper pockets.

The PS4/PC version of TxK is Playstation VR, Oculus Rift and 3D TV compatible. To bad he can't release it due to Atari.

The new game (not this old demo) he's been working on hasn't been announced yet but Rafael from Sony third party relations played it the other day.

But it's NOT tempest. TxK, however, unabashedly is a successor to T2000 and T3000. Space Giraffe isn't, and it's not because of cosmetic differences. The games work differently.

It doesn't matter.

As stated before people clone Atari gameplay all the time, there are clones everywhere. Calling it TxK on a platform as visible as Playstation was trolling them, big mistake. T2K, T3K, oh, wait, here's TxK wink wink nudge nudge. Superzapper more like Supertapper AMIRITE HEE HEE. Big mistake.

If Minter had created the exact same gameplay but without a yellow claw and a trademark infringing title and crap like "Supertapper" he'd have been fine.

Yeah, seems like he took all his iOS games down. I know that he's said mobile games hadn't been successful for him, but making sure nobody even has the option to buy them is really disappointing.

Although having read that now, I can empathise with him.

Those were the days when I was still in love with mobile games. I was heartbroken when I recently found my old iPod Touch and couldn't download the games anymore.

Have you even read the letter Atari sent Jeff Minter? Because they claim TxK infringes on the underlying game mechanics that they claim they own. It directly compares TxK to Space Giraffe and notes how they play differently.

The functionality of the game, the gameplay, rules, and principles underlying the game.

The problem isn't "Superzapper = Super Tapper," the problem is Atari believes they outright own the Tempest ruleset.
