Would be very surprised If Neo isent out Before / Same day as PS VR

Comparing with that apple graph, even If it is a mid gen jump, how big is the jump compared to the ps3 to ps4 jump? (choose whatever spec you Think is likely)

dont know if seen already but

The leaked document says games launched October and on "SHOULD" include NEO mode. Doesn't sound like NEO mode is mandatory.

It shouldn't be. Well, I mean you can't tell devs how much effort they should put in a port. They could just lock the performamce and have immediately a "neo" mode. More work is hardly worth it, at least for 3rd party.

Here's why I personally want more power.

Console games have, for a long time dictated what new graphics tech devs incorporate across consoles and PC. People will dispute this claim but it's very apparent, because when new consoles are released and they're more powerful, we see new graphics technology being used across both platforms. PC's have been able to handle advanced graphical features the consoles have not, but we never see these being utilised because it's just not worth the hassle and costs when only a fraction of the userbase will play on PC compared to consoles when the consoles can't use this tech.

When the PS5 comes out we will see more games using advanced technology which PC'S of today can already handle.

If these step up Consoles like Neo and Scorpio are as powerful as possibly can be at a reasonable price we will see new graphics tech being used on both PC and consoles because now it will become worth it for devs to incorporate. More power invigorates Devs to push the boundaries and we will see the benefits on PC which helps everyone!

Beast PC's with 12TF of processing power don't get access to advanced lighting in games such as RTGI because consoles are too weak. Instead PC'S are held back and are limited to simply a bit better textures, resolution, draw distance etc. If Devs were given more power to play with and use it how they've been saying they will instead of simply targeting 4k we will get these advanced features.

I went off track a bit there but I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

In short what I'm trying to say is this.

More powerful consoles will entice devs to use graphics techniques that PC can already do but don't because it's not worth it.

Everyone is held back by the power of consoles. PC especially.

Here's my reasoning: I am a Graphics Bitch Pudding!

Foxconn artist "thickness equal to 2 slim"

Hm, maybe Neo is just two Slims connected via cable after all. Would explain that dual APU theory ;).

I knew it ^^

Then, why did you post this crap in the first place? :p

That's what a NEO mode means, just pertaining to having something other than a base mode. It doesn't mean they have to take advantage of NEO's specs beyond that. The only requirement is that the game is 1080p and runs the same or better than PS4.

Bootleg Fanboy thinks we are roasting him on here. What? When was this? I wanna take part.
;P

Edit: Also the above tweet makes it out like we believe it's real. Hate it when people do that, trying to make you look dumb so people will laugh "Haha those NeoGaf guys are dumb" because they don't know better.

Haha I read that from bottom to top, I thought you were calling me a graphics bitch pudding until I see your name. Does anyone know how fat 2 PS4 slims would be? Does this equate to 3cm bigger than the PS4?

That sounds reasonable and easy to accomplish.

But what exactly is a neo mode? How do they define that?

Presumably, Sony has two performance profiles through software for their two hardware SKU's.

Base mode is vanilla PS4 performance profile. The console runs the game like a normal PS4. A NEO mode is an adherence to the performance profile that recognizes the NEO's hardware. The only requirement for NEO mode is that the game runs at 1080p minimum and runs equal or better to the original PS4 FPS wise. So as long as the "NEO mode" runs in 1080p, devs can just leave the CPU to run faster if they want due to the higher CPU clock with no further optimization applied.

The NEO hardware just has to have a NEO performance profile other than base mode to recognize that the NEO is being taken advantage of by the GPU, RAM and the CPU

*EDIT* you already got it, but yeah.

So...how fast of an internet connection would be needed to bring NEO mode to regular PS4s through PS Now? This is possible, right...?

PSNow is just a video stream on a client side, current 720p60 version of stream uses 8-9mbit [sony reccomends at least 5mbit].

To use Neo, Sony should need to build servers that have Neo-grade hardware. Don't expect that anytime soon. They now use motherboards that have 4 or 8 PS3s on them, with large array of that ready to serve thousands of users at once. In the future we should expect them to add PS2 and PS1 games that could run on existing hardware. Don't expect x86 catalogue anytime soon.

2 PS4 slims= 78mm
OG PS4= 53mm

Difference= 25mm or 2.5cm so by eye saying 3cm thicker sounds about right?

Also, why does everyone act as if this could no way have changed behind the scenes?

Why would it change behind the scenes? Your saying devs would not be mandated to support the NEO when all games are supposed to be mandated to be a certain resolution at the minimum?

I'm not ashamed to admit, rather pathetically, that the lead up to/launch of a new console is among my favorite things in life.

That kind of makes the neo sound pointless.

Can I just say this?

Remember back during ps4 and xbone launch hearing that epic wanted 2.5 tflop machines so they could do what they were showing in there ureal 4 demos. And we were all talking on this site about how monstrous those specs would be, and gawking at the Samaritan and infiltrator demo. Well we are getting at minimum almost 2x what they were asking for. So we should in a way all be kind of pumped. 4.2-5 teraflops in a closed system is going to be pretty badass.

I can't wait till Wednesday

Do we know whether or not Neo mode being only one mode? Is it possible for a developer to have a multiple? Example: 4K mode, 1080P mode with upped graphics, and 1080P mode with upped frame rate?

Also going to be interesting to see how Second Son runs on the Neo since it has a unlocked frame rate option.

Well sony can't very well mandate all devs to put in a certain amount of effort beyond that can they? Especially considering all devs have individual approaches and implementations for their games, and putting arbitrary restrictions on them in a blanket hold can backfire.

There's nothing sony could mandate beyond native 1080p that would be reasonable.

That depends solely on profitability. Sony will kill PS Now well before any PSone or PS2 games come to the platform if this experiment isn't profitable.
