Palmer Luckey issue statement on actions on Nimble America

He'll drag this out long enough for the schmucks that are yelling "Witch hunt!" on his Twitter and Facebook feeds to not notice the lack of legal action and will then live off of the martyr cred. He'll be just another truth seeker, battling a corrupt system. Or something.

The crowd he held his most cred with - the hyper tech enthusiasts - have very long memories. Someone already quoted it, but that Gabe Newell image where he warns to never ever piss off the internet is truth. Palmer Luckey might actually become reinvented as an alt-right poster boy, but that's not his true passion. He's destroyed his credibility with those whose opinions he originally and actually cared about.

Fuck him, IMO.

He's not really high up in the games industry. He has no power at Oculus. He's not qualified to hold any senior position at the company. He's not leading their tech division or actually making games or anything. He's the rah rah man that they kept around because he had managed to stir the troops into donating before venture capitalists took his company from him.
I guess you're right, maybe not high up. He's certainly played a very influential role, however.

True. Maybe this situation will be jarring enough to force a bit of introspection and maybe then he'll see what a waste of time it is to hate and associate with those that do the same. There's a chance he could come out of this a better person than he was going in. But, he seems to like attention quite a bit and there's a decent enough chance that he's equally fond of power. Being some sort of ringleader of the fringe right would probably appeal to a guy like that.
I want to be optimistic, but....eh. My best guess is that he'll go down in flames then blame it all on biased media. I suppose the silver lining is that his appearance on Alex Jones will be hilarious.

How can anyone look at this bullshit and think there aren't massive, red, blaring arrows pointing in one direction. This moron isn't even capable of properly vetting what he favorites and likes on his own public twitter account, yet him creating some shitty Super PAC thing and admitting to it in an email correspondence is somehow a crazy leap and we should take him at his word that it's a lie?

Nah, mang.

Nah.

His lust for power and limelight is why I think it's not far fetched to imagine he'll reinvent himself as a full alt-right villain, but I've always considered that the true measure of a man is what he does when nobody pays attention. Before Palmer Luckey was the next big thing in the tech world, he chose to spend his time crafting literally hundreds of thousands of posts over a decade with other hardware engineers on ben heck's forum and mtbs3D. That's who he was at his core, before he had wealth to corrupt him. And those are the types of people who will despise him going forward.

I like how I'm supposed to be mad about the "too big to jail" billboard when she literally weaseled her way out of the email scandal (despite the FBI director saying the consequences would have been severe for any other person)

I don't have any reasons to not believe Luckey. I worked together with journalists and news agencies for many years and got a deep insight in their working practices. Manufactured stories is a day-to-day business.

If I'd tell you, you wouldn't believe me.
You're all way to emotional on this.

That's what they believe at least.
No, no...let's see where this goes

Does it seem to anyone else like alt accounts left and right are being nuked from orbit over the last 24 hours in these Palmer Luckey threads? People with like a dozen posts all of a sudden giving their shitty hot takes on how liberal GAF and the media are. Seems a little too coincidental.

I'm pretty sure bish set all of this up as an elaborate sting operation. Palmer Luckey's just another witless tech near-billionaire with a social development disorder caught up in the whorl of GAF's astroturf threshing machine.

Gotta do something during the downtime years between new console reveals, after all.

Him throwing Gary Johnson under the bus makes me even more mad.
From what I can tell he doesn't seem to share a single thing with him (2nd amendment views maybe).

Not necessarily, but they don't have a problem supporting a white supremacist and bigot. Nuance is important.

To be fair, they may think the is the best of two bad alternatives... which may also be how some people on Clinton's side are supporting her (not to elect Trump and because "she is not so bad after all")... this is the first election I can recall where my conscience would mandate me to vote a third party. Not saying that Trump and Hilary are near the same electability level... one is comically lower than the other, but that neither is close to the qualifying bar of good enough to elect President... and considering that the country never trusts third parties for the office of President that makes me a bit sad, but this is democracy.

Not only is that response weak as fuck he must have known Daily Beast would release the emails. Which is weird considering how much of a slam dunk a libel case against them would be if they faked them.

Covert racism is the worst. I would rather people resorted to UKIP/EDL/NeoNazi marches and wear their bigotry on their sleeves. but guys like Palmer are scary as shit, they wield a lot of influence, are well connected, have crazy resources and can fuck minorities from the shadows.

These are professionals, wealthy individuals, Police, Lawyers, even teachers/

I know this is entertaining for a lot of people, but as someone from Brexit-Land, you guys should be afraid.

What is it about becoming wealthy that turns these young guys into absolute cunts?

Wait a second, the dog in the picture..your avatar. I'm onto ya buddy!

I apologize to my work, and my co-workers deeply.

I am committed to the principles of being a dog and equal dog treatment. I am not the dog in the "Venture" post, nor did I delete that dog. Reports that I am a founder or employee of CatsSuck America are false. I don’t have any plans to donate beyond what I have already given to CatsSuck America.

They were probably always cunts. Having enough money for several lifetimes means you don't have to answer to anyone and the shit that used to stay in your head starts to spill out.

Baby's first foray into politics backfired. My absolute pet peeve is the 'I'm sorry you feel that way' apology. That's not anything, it's redundant and insulting.

I imagine people around you stop putting you in check as well.

edit: along with your social circles moving towards your own mindset quite rapidly. us 9-5 peons are stuck with the same folk

Ah, must be nice for Valve, Sony, Google, Samsung to watch a major competitor implodes on its own.

Palmer Luckey is a ticking bomb and a disgusting one at that.

Well said. Britain is scary these days because I just don't know who trust their ideas anymore. Everyone is saying they have voted for labour and remain yet my city has a mjority whom voted out.

I mean, Palmer Luckey can go and fuck himself, but Oculus is not his company anymore, he's not owning or even managing it. I don't see much happening to them after they inevitably show him the door and continue business as usual.

"I'm sorry you guys got offended"

What a terrible apology.

Edit: also, there's still too much stuff that shows he is not a great person. I mean, his girlfriends tweet account is still disgusting for example.

Probably as you only hang out with people with similar views to you ultimately. In the end what feels like a 'majority' in reality is an echo chamber of your own views.

Then I have seen some friends who suddenly revealed what they voted (conservative or leave) and claimed they do it as their parents do *shurgs* lol. Only told us after the respective sides won too haha

What a disgusting man he has turned out to be. Seriously scared of the new alt-right...really thought with all the strides we had made in equality and diversity (particularly towards LGBT+) in the last decade was showing a big change in human mindset.

Oh well...I believe there is still more good in the world than bad, and the response from the community at this is encouraging at least.

For reasons that go beyond Palmer Luckey destroying himself, I do not believe Oculus is long for the tech world considering their business practices.

The fact that he created it and will probably be receiving royalty even if they get rid of him is reasons enough for me not to buy it. I don't support racist pigs.

That's another matter of course, but having them "implode" any time soon is a quite a long stretch considering they still have pretty much unlimited capital behind them.

Royalties for what? Facebook doesn't sell or support any products that existed prior to them purchasing Oculus, all the pre-facebook oculus products are no longer for sale. You can't even buy items that have their old logo anymore unless you buy second hand.

If they can get to a more affordable "room-VR" solution before the first Vive remodel, maybe they can hang in there, but at this point it's about how Facebook handles this situation playing out before us today.

The sooner they scrap Luckey the better for how Oculus is seen going forward, but for now it's trashville.

But until they show him the door, many (developers, consumers enthusiasts) have give OR the stink eye. It's affecting the plans of th company. So returning business back to the status quo gets harder every minute they delay in taking action against Palmer.

That is true.

Oculus could make some donations to certain causes and make a statement on behalf of everyone at Oculus after letting Palmer go.

|EDIT, I guess not seeing what Iribe has said
