COMICS |OT| September 2016. Comics Should Be Good.

Frostbite

Is this a mini? First issue felt like a mini series to me. I'll stick with it and see where it goes for a couple more issues but it just seems like a arctic Max Max to me right now.

Blue Beetle

I lasted 3 pages. I think we have a new contender for absolute worst dialogue.

Batman Beyond

I really liked this and it made a good entry point. I'm happy it seems like it's retconning the whole wasteland aspect of where Batman Beyond was at previously.

Teen Titans

All set up, but I thought it was promising

Action Comics

More mystery and less answers but I thought this was a good issue. At least it's not 4 issues of just fighting.

Detective Comics

This seemed like a pretty boring issue. The whole issue is Batwoman checking up on the status of the team and eventually Gotham Girl freaking out. Meh.

Huh, I learned today that their are people who unironicly like the punisher and what he stands for. Also Punisher Max is lame and the worst depiction of the character.

Think I'm dropping blue beetle, it's monthly and running at a slow pace and I was mostly in it for doctor fate, do I'll wait for the trade.

When Champions starts and you motherfuckers go "well that was a steaming pile of donkey shit" im leaving this community.

Mah Viv ;_;

I still have NO idea what Viv is doing in that book. Unless Vision #12 is a straight up shocking swerve, by, like, Vision standards I mean, I just cannot reconcile her with the idea of Champions. It makes no sense.

I wish I somehow had less pessimism to where I thought a large amount of people didn't think death was the best punishment for all crimes.

So how long untill Vision by King gets it's complete hardcover release? I need that bad boy in my life.

(And yay, I'm moving for my new job and one of the perks in the city there is that it has a comicbook store. Guess I'll visit the store every now and then)

Probably before Omega Men does. :(

Congrats on the job and move. What kind of city doesn't have a comicbook store?! Maybe I've just been lucky where even small towns I've visited have had little comic shops.

I feel a little bit underwhelmed by the reviews so far, but I have again taken a day off to binge and am really curious because I havent watched a trailer and know no one of the characters that are supposed to show up

Not all crimes, but some. There's a major news story in my area about a man who killed his wife and kids years ago, remarried and recentmy did the same thing again. I personally think dude is a possibility who should die, but I'm not planning any vigilante action.

Probably won't happen but I'd be interested in a story by marvel or dc where one of the murderous righteous vigilantes kills the wrong person and Innocents end up dead.

Keep it that way. I watched the trailer for the first time a day ago. It's fucking hype but I wish I hadn't.

Sounds like you'd be interested in kill or be killed brubaker 's new book. It's basically all about vigilantism taken seriously and explored in depth, specifically the punisher type take.

Oh god.

I'm an idiot.

I was all "Blerf de herf, looks like I'll be saving some money on comic bizzooks this month cause nothing is coming out at allllllll"

Then Donnie reminds me about Trees Vol. 2 and Low Vol. 3. Both of which come out next week. So I check Comiclist and look at next week and I heard my wallet start sobbing uncontrollably.

So here's next week's TPB releases (which is all I buy):

Black Road Vol. 1
(possibly) Discipline Vol. 1
Head Lopper Vol. 1
Low Vol. 3
Trees Vol. 2
Motherfucking Wicked and the Motherfucking Divine Vol. Fucking 4
Wolf Vol.2

Like holy fuck.

Luckily the rest of October is pretty calm with the new East of West and the Double Life of Miranda Turner being the only stuff I see. But jeez.

Does remind me though when the hell is the second volume of Autumnlands coming out?

Head Lopper Vol. 1

Haha, it's coming back to bite me now, because I definitely want Headlopper and I had no idea that was due out.

Separate point: Black Road...I do want to read it. I read Northlanders back in the day and enjoyed it, just not sure where I stand on Brian Wood. Or more where I stand when you realise a writer is (possibly) a piece of shit, and your reading a narrative and themes explored through that world view point. Not sure if this bothers me me/how deeply it bothers me.

Yeah, I...like Wood's work though admittedly it is more of a personal like than a legitimate claim of quality but the dude did Supermarket and The Massive, as well as DMZ and Northlanders so I always enjoy his stuff but...the sexual harassment claims really did turn me off from really loving the dude.

I think you meant to put the quotations on "over".

Anyway, we should probably wait at least a year before assigning awards for that

Yeah that would probably work as well. Just seems like what Rebirth actually is, is kind of fluid. With things like Supergirl and Batman Beyond it's like a complete reboot with small continuity carrying over. Then you have other stuff that didn't really change anything but got a Rebirth issue and new number 1. Then you have the others with just new creative teams and new directions. Rebirth could suddenly end when the relaunches end but I could also see them calling it the Rebirth era of DC instead of referring to it as New 52 anymore even though it is the new 52 universe still. I find it all just weird and confusing.

Rebirth definitely deserves the quotation marks.

I think it's limited.

12 issues in the first series, then there will most likely be a break before the next one. When I talked to Tom at Baltimore Comic-Con he said he wants to negotiate with Vertigo for the TV rights before they start the next arc or something like that. Hopefully it's sooner than later.

Oh, I see what you're saying.

I think that they'll get rid of the Rebirth trade dress/theme once the major event they've been alluding to happens.

Yea, it's a difficult one. I read all of DMZ, Northlanders, his Conan run. He's never been my favourite writer but I've enjoyed his stuff for sure. So it's a weird one to grapple with. I didn't come out of any of those with a demeaning view point of women or anything, so does it matter? Not sure ha! To a lesser extent, I have grappled with similar thoughts with Scott Allie. Really love his Abe Sapien run, I think it's pretty thoughtful at times. Then you read some of the stuff about him. Writing is difficult to take in a bubble since it's so personal to the person putting the pen to paper. I still want to read Black Road in spite of this.

I wouldn't waste your money on this one. It was terrible. It's creepy but in all the wrong ways.

So this is going to Monsters Unleashed, isn't it?

I don't do annuals. It's more like perpetual auto-charging pre-order cancelled.

It's awesome. You should check it out.

This Annual seems like it will help flesh out the characters a bit. He said it will be a collection of small stories made from other writers involving the characters. I thought it sounded like a cool idea.
