This Angry Joe review disgusted me

It's very weird, in his Metro Last Light review he called out the way the game objectified its female characters ,and then you have this Deus Ex review...
As brought up before, people can change their views over time. I know for a fact that are posts early in my GAF days that would embarrass the me of today, as well as get me permabanned in today's GAF, when they were A-Okay back then.

Yeah, if you think beating up prostitutes is funny, you might be.

its a video game. at one point he grabs two ladies and bashes their heads together in a 3 stooges manner. are you really looking at that and saying to yourself, "UGH, I'm so disgusted!"

I don't know Joe on a personal level, but many people can disapprove of things yet still joke about them. It's just a dark sense of humor I guess.

It's an unfortunate joke, but it's also 5 years ago. If I compare myself to 5 years ago, I'd be upset with some of my decisions back then as well. People grow and change, and over the past few years people have become a lot more socially conscious. I wouldn't write off Joe based on this, but I'd keep an eye out for warning signs. Like you said though, as it's made clear by the MLL review, he doesn't seem to be on the wrong side here. Just a joke that was poorly conceived, I guess.

Sure it's tasteless, but it's Angry Joe. Some say his content has improved, I disagree.
But even then, it's a mild annoyance. He's ragging on a digital prostitute in a game about augmented individuals stopping a global conspiracy.
Likely prostitutes in Detroit chose the profession, you know, because fiction. Where's the outcry for pedestrians in GTA?
Point is: Let it offend you but don't give the guy more views. He's just not interesting enough and the situation isn't justified to be offended about by most people (because it's digital fiction and he's emulating a shock jock persona.)
Seems like a non-issue to me. Start talking about beating random people up on the street in real life and you have my rage.

Never seen before, but is pretty funny to me. Come on, it's a game, I shoot people all days in games and I think it's funny.

It's not so much about the videogame footage, guys, it's the fact that he literally says "prostitutes, eeewwwww! Fake as hell! I hate fake!" And then shows the video.

Had he done the same thing with people of, for example, a specific race, that would quite probably get you all up in arms, right?

But because he makes the joke with prostitutes it is A-ok, i guess...

Could be the case. Still felt racist.

i see. it's that throughout the post, it got a racist undertone, at least for me. good to know it wasn't intentional.

from know your meme:

“Huahuehuahue” is an onomatopoeic expression of hearty laughter in Portuguese, equivalent to “hahahaha” in English. Due to its frequent use by Brazilians in massively multiplayer online games such as Ragnarok Online and League of Legends, the phrase is also used by non-Brazilians in a pejorative manner similar to the connotation carried by the Korean expression “KEKEKE” in the multiplayer real-time strategy game Starcraft.

I for one never knew the origin of this.

I'm pretty sure the "fake" comments he says ties into the whole augment enhancement. Hence, fake. Or am I just completely wrong?

shark sandwich

tenuously links anime, pedophile and incels
OMG what kind of sick motherfucker commits acts of violence in video games? Someone needs to ban these murder simulators!!!

It's from 2011. Obviously he's changed his views since then just like any person in 5 years. Is it tasteless? Yes. I don't think it's anything to be outraged about now. If this was something they came out today then I'd agree that this is something to be disgusted with.

No man, nothing further from the truth! It's just that i love saying huehue instead of lol or haha

Edit: took it out from op

I was like..."Dear God the new Deus Ex looks like goddamn shit visually".

I thought the same thing, until I looked at the upload date. Though I was actually kind of amused at the visual image of smashing two hookers heads together. But only because of the absurdity of it in the game, it is ridiculous.

Human Revolution is a game that I purchased in 2012, and it is still on my "to play" list.

I think its a double entendre.

while he's referring to the hookers being augmented, the way he says, "and I don't like fake" suggests he's talking about plastic surgery or other "enhancements".

or maybe im over thinking it.

Yes but what hes saying is 5 years is a lot of time to improve- especially with the world becoming more aware.

We aren't exactly cutting through old threads and banning everyone who used "thats gay" on GAF- a huge portion of starting accounts would be gone if they posted how they did then in 2016.

Again, it's still tasteless and I don't really care for the joke at all, but we should keep the time period in context.

Yeah I agree with this. I'm willing to give him my vote of confidence, given I haven't heard any complaints towards him as of lately in regards to him being a tasteless asshole. And, in 5 years, I think it's safe to assume people can and will change their beliefs- hell, if I were to post the same things I did back when I had my GAF account activated, I'd certainly be banned.

Getting your money back from prostitutes after shooting them in the head is the best part of GTA.

Please don't put me on ignore OP.

For those of you saying that killing is normal in videogames, don't you think there's a difference between killing enemies that are shooting at you and beating up harmless prostitutes.

Also, it's not even like violence against women is a serious issue in the real world.

Yeah, if you think beating up prostitutes is funny, you might be.

I fucking hate that in the GTA series, and killing innocent people and gaining some sort of reward from it has been the biggest turn off for me from the franchise.

Games are made for all sorts of people, games which either to show the horrors of war and "what mankind has wrought" like Spec Ops/BioShock or other games where you can fuck around in a virtual world where there are no consequences. I see no difference from jingoist freedom-boner 360 no-scoping my way through some woefully ill-equipped foreign soldiers in a Call of Duty sort of game for some contrived reason (them ayyrabs got nukes!) to running over pedestrians in a Grand Theft Auto game.

It's a fucked up joke that I can see offending people. You do realize that that video is 5 years old and people change over the course of 5 years right? 5 years ago, I would have laughed at a joke like that.

Try reading some of the posts itt.
It's a video game.

If you wanna be consistent don't play first person shooters or any games with virtual violence.

Kinda nuts that these Jack Thompson arguments are now accepted when they were laughed at.

I hate prostitutes, I hate bus drivers, I hate lunch ladies.

I hate hispanics, I hate blacks, I hate whites.

Which one of those should be taken seriously?

It's a tasteless joke, but who ultimately gets to decide what sort of violence is allowed and what is not allowed in videogames? It doesn't really make sense to draw an arbitrary line here.

Two of them try and fight him though, and there's a boss fight in the game where you straight up murder a woman, so getting offended about a little goofy routine in a 5 year old video is kind of silly, no?

I mean this review is from 2011

Its a shitty joke from a 5 year old video.

I haven't followed him in a while, but for the most part his content improved from what it was 5 years ago.

um, 5 years ago we were still in the 21st fucking century.

and Joe was still a grown fucking man.

hell if you caught me 5 years ago [so at, uh... 27 years old] making tasteless rape jokes [essentially], i hope you'd fucking hate me now for it still.

we can do some bizarre typing laughter here. but yeah, it wasnt the case here, but it most of the time, when not used by brazilians, can carry a racist undertone that isnt welcome. but it seems that wasnt the case here, gladly.

no need to feel bad about it. if it wasnt in bad faith, there's no problem.

I've used hue as a substitute for laughter (mostly due to random Internet gifs using it) had no idea of the actual meaning of it.

Is it okay to blow up vehicles with civilians in GTA? Isn't that like terrorism? WHY DO THEY ALLOW IT

I don't think OP is criticising the violence shown in the game, he is critizing the fact that Joe's best comment and joke about prostitutes is "EWWWWW, Prostitutes, also, they are so fake, UGH" and then proceeds to beat them up to "Smack My Bitch Up"

I mean, I'm not disgusted (just kinda bored) but I can see why someone would be. It's also just a lazy, easy joke.

It's in the game, so he made a, "funny" montage about it. Sure violence in general is no joking matter, but this is a video game. I really don't get the rage. Also this video is from 2011, with 1.4 million view and less than 95%/5% like to dislike ratio. I'm guessing most of the people who watched it disagree with you. He gave the game an 8/10 btw.

If Joe made a funny montage about robbing people in GTA and then killing them, would you be just as outraged? Your outrage should really be at the devs for putting it in the game rather than being disgusted at Joe for making a 30sec clip about it. His videos fall under, comedy/satire, if you don't find him funny my only advice for you is to stay away.

I got nothing. It's from 2011 though.

Edit: Actually lock this thread up. Blood's already been spilled. Dem sharks are coming.
