Today marks the launch of One Tamriel (the biggest patch ever made for the game) on consoles and ZOS decided to release the PS4 Pro improvements along with it. Is this game the first "old" (pre-2016) game to release the Pro enhancements prior to the official launch? Here are the patch notes:

ZOS said:
PlayStation®4 Pro Support
This update adds support for the upcoming PlayStation®4 Pro! There are two graphics modes available exclusively to PS4 Pro players: 4k mode and 1080p enhanced mode.

  1. 4k Mode

    - This includes all of the graphical features available on the original PlayStation®4, and the game is scaled to 4k resolution.
    - This is the default when the PS4 Pro is hooked up to a display that supports 4k resolution.

  2. 1080p Enhanced Mode

    - This includes all of the graphical features available on the original PlayStation®4, and also includes the following graphical enhancements:
    - Ambient occlusion
    - Water reflections
    - Improved shadow fidelity

Fus Ro Dah me if old.

PS.: This is also my first thread here on Neogaf, be kind to me :)

Shadows of Mordor got the patch today as well.

More devs need to detail all their Pro benefits like this right now. It's almost here and they aren't speaking up.

I'd be in the dick
Deus Ex mentioned "Compatibility with latest PlayStation hardware" in the last patch so I assume that's Pro support there.

I would assume so. It seems like most developers are still targeting 30 FPS for the pro, which is odd.

Devs won't allow MP games to give a big advantage. So be prepared for lots of locked 30FPS on Pro when the original games MP runs at 30FPS.

Users with 4kTV's, will they get a choice on what mode to use? or perhaps be able to force it by fixing the resolution to 1080p in the settings?

The improved CPU on the PS4 Pro isn't sufficient to be able to improve the workload of their 30FPS games to 60FPS.
The Pro's GPU is far greatly enhanced and that enables GPU rendering the flexibility of much higher resolution rendering, but CPU calculations and operations still need to be done. Unfortunately, the CPU wasn't as higher priority in upgrading for the Pro as the GPU has so to deliver twice the CPU rendering to facilitate 60FPS calculations isn't sufficient.

But in news for ESO getting Pro support, this is great for me. I still have a 1080p screen and in the new year I'm looking into a 4K TV this will be sweet for me. Until then, when I get the Pro I'll enjoy the 1080p benefits so much. ;)

apparently if it's hooked up to a tv that supports 4K it automatically defaults to 4K ? Again that's what I've heard so not sure there is an option not to if it's running on a 4K tv. Again I can't say for sure but I thought that's what was said? Even in the patch notes in the OP it states that.

I actually completely forgot about this. Didn't they just overclock the original CPU that was in the base PS4?

Yeah they have, though whilst the overclock is good, it's not enough to do what's necessary to double the FPS of most games. It could be enough if a game isn't as CPU-dependent though.

Doesn't GPGPU usage allow load to be taken from the CPU though? Negating the power of the CPU issue?

I don't know much about GPGPU stuff, I'm not as technically informed as others around here, though I do follow news as much as possible so I can't really answer your question I'm afraid. :(

framerate still 30?

By Sony mandate, multiplayer games with Pro cannot have a higher framerate target than the original PS4. So yes - 30 FPS.

And I would take the improved 1080p baseline in a heartbeat over higher resolution.

It will be interesting to hear if Pro at 1080p offers a more consistent framerate; locked at 30 FPS would be great.

Does anyone have the patch notes for it? Since it's not a MP game, I'm hoping there's a 60fps mode.

Hope that's not to technical...

Patch size ? Would be interesting to know how much of a hit these updates take. Native 4K is very tempting, may pick this up again.

If it was native, I'd like to think they would be boasting it as "Native 4K resolution"

I don't think they used the word "scaled" by mistake...

I'd also be shocked if this game could run native 4K without some graphical downgrades.

Edit: but I see that enhanced mode would be scalable by the TV anyways... So I'm quite curious what the 4K Mode actually is. Maybe it is something above 1080, less than 4K, and scaled the rest of the way?

Last night at the Sony PlayStation®4 Pro announcement event in New York City, it was revealed that The Elder Scrolls Online will be one of the first games to support the new Sony PlayStation®4 Pro. When the PlayStation®4 Pro launches on November 10th, you'll be able to play ESO immediately in native 4K resolution!

This doesn't sound like up to 4.2TF worth of improvements. Is it?

Seems mighty feeble.

Imho there is nothing odd about it. a lot of people don't care about 60fps and it is easier for developers/publishers to market graphics.

Well the game is not really a graphical showcase anyway.

With this game in particular, I'm pretty OK with that. The frame rate dips a bit in some of the more popular sections. Hopefully the Pro version can fix that.

Its not going to be a 4.2tf improvement, it's only 2.4TF more powerful than a standard PS4, depends on the quality of those extras, if everything is PC Ultra equivilent that takes a lot of grunt, especially ultra reflections.

It's kinda dope that devs are rolling out these updates in advance instead of after the launch of Pro.

Whats the download size for the patch ?

18GB.

It's packaged in with a more significant and exciting update: level scaling throughout the whole game. So you can pretty much play it like Oblivion or Skyrim now. Create character and waltz over to any zone.
