Mafia 3 |OT| "Family isn't who you're born with, it's who you die for"

That really sucks ass. Been lucky to get a bug-free PS4 time with it. And now with the new match, it's got way smoother.

I really want to play this game, I've enjoyed the time I could play ... But, after I posted that, I had 4 crashes in the span of 15 minutes. I think I may just end up trading it in :/

Does somebody know where save game is located on PC? I wanted to do a backup before I uninstall the game.

It's neither in Documents, nor in the steamapps/common/Mafia III folder.

Found it. It's in C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\2K Games

Is there any strong interest in how New Bordeaux came to be? Or are people focused on the game story?

Has there been any word on when those story expansions are coming out? They all look really interesting.

I just wish they released those customization "dlc" packs.

Gotta get this show rolling while people are still playing, Hangar 13.

Best Buy is running a 50% trade in promo this week, base trade in value is $28 plus 50% plus 10% GCU bonus gave me $44.80 for the game. Traded it in and Gears 4 in today, fully expect to pay $30 or less for them around black friday or january.

I only got about 30% done with the game (3 or 4 districts cleared) but I just couldn't play anymore right now with Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, and Watch Dogs 2 coming up, clearing zones was just so goddamn repetitive and boring. I've platinum'd most of the Far Cry and Assassin's Creed games so I'm not adverse to doing it but something about the Mafia 3 formula was just awful. I guess one big problem was a lack of taxi/fast travel, having to drive all the way to the goddamn bayou to pick up a truck and then drive it all the way back to the city with zero danger is some real shit game design.

I'll pick it back up again and platinum sometime down the road, but since I only paid $48 for the game I figure I might as well trade it in while the trade in values are good. Gears of War 4 trades in for the same value too, I enjoyed the campaign in there more (didn't finish either) but plan on buying digitally so I can play on PC as well.

I really hope Watch Dogs 2 isn't as dull as Mafia 3 turned out to be.

When I had to change the lethality option in the menu I thought that was weird and unintuitive as fuck. Now it turns out the devs had a better option in play and chose to do it in another, way more stupid way? What.

Yeah, that confused the hell out of me too. The only way changing takedowns could be worse is if you had to restart the game to do it.

I cannot force myself to get the collectables after finishing the story. I usually do not mind doing it in open world games (I did it twice in 2 playthroughs of GTAV); but the ones in Mafia 3 are just so mundane and not placed in interesting locations like they are in GTA.

I'll be shelving this one until the DLC drops now

Am happy to confirm as others have already posted v1.03 patch on PS4 has fixed the frame pacing. Its a butter smooth 30fps and feels silky smooth. Great job Hangar13. Really nice to play now, and seems bugs have been fixed too like sound drop outs.

Well, Burke and I finally had a falling out and I had to go "deal" with him. Man, the cutscene afterwards was pretty sad. I didn't expect it to affect me that much, but it genuinely made me feel crappy about what I'd just done. The icing on the cake was when I got back in my car a little while later (I stopped playing for a bit) and heard a news report about his body being found. It almost felt surreal.

I really wish more open-world games had moments like this. For the first time in one of these games, I felt like I, the player, made a meaningful decision that actually dictated how things played out. That's one area in which Mafia 3 simply blows GTA V (and most other open-world games for that matter) out of the water.

It's been mentioned many times in here...but it's just a shame that a game with so many cool ideas and attention to detail is let down by such boring mission design (at least for the racket missions). The only 'Mafia moments' I had was for the actual boss missions and the ones where you help people escape

The story was the only thing which kept me playing until the end really.

Yeah, when I saw the scene on Youtube later I was glad I didn't kill him or the other lieutenants. Their deaths were all sad as hell.

I'm waiting to start it for those. Want to change my outfit to the suit, hoping it hits next week maybe.

Whelp, fired up the game to play a bit today after not playing for about a week, and my save is just gone. After about 15 hours of playtime.

Guess I'm done.

I'm on this path just for the sake of it and I'm not really looking forward to it. The game doesn't seem as good when you are not balancing your lieutenants

You didn't back it up to the cloud on PSN/Live/Steam?

That's something the Mafia series has always been good at.

Steam. I think it happened when I rolled back a Windows 10 update, it's the only thing that happened in that time. My impression has been that Windows 10 rollbacks don't delete user data, but otherwise, I'm not sure what the cause would be.

Mafia 3 doesn't support cloud saving on Steam, only local saves.

Whaaat. Windows 10 might have moved around the localApp files or whatever they're called.

That fucking sucks pal. Sorry to hear it. I can send you my save file, I'm probably at about 15 hours too? Feel free to ping me where you were in the story.

Oh damn, I better backup my save then. I just assumed it was uploading to the cloud on Steam.

Got the plat last night. Shame how frustrating this game can be sometimes. When it's good, it's great. The dialogue is great. The characters are great. The hit reations and shooting is top tier, but there are so many fuck you design choices. I hope hanger 13 gets a round 2.

I'm going for the platinum right now. Will probably get it over the weekend. Playing the opposite way of what I would normally do is weird. Still have the desire to evenly spread districts but I can't lol

It was the opposite for me. Loved treating my lieutenants like shit, and seeing their reactions. Though my main I spread out for the rewards. The dynamic dialouge in the sitdowns is one of the best things in the game. Everytime I thought I was going to get a repeated response they had something new to say.

I wish I had separate saves because the loss of the rewards is the problem I have. I can't get my favorite handgun in this run or have better ammo capacities. I haven't got to a point where the dialogue starts changing since I haven't given out enough districts, just that I know I'll have to do it at some point.

So I finished,
took the throne with my underbosses still alive

The ending choice was interesting and the epilogue is very well handled. In fact, all the main story missions were full of great dialogue and characterisation. I particularly liked Sal's last scene - very fitting.

I don't blame people for not getting past the racket grind and the asinine unlock system but... man, I wish more games put this much effort into building believable characters. The story is nothing special and very straightforward but the personalities and character moments really elevate it.

Not the best game of 2016 but I'll remember it fondly and eventually get back to it.

I came here to say pretty much all this. I even made the same choice for the ending! Mafia 3 is definitely a special game if you can get past the endlessly repetitive racket missions, which for me wasn't a huge deal since I played in short bursts anyways to avoid burnout. Plus, as someone who's always enjoyed stealth games I still had a blast trying different approaches and going on "quiet massacres" with my silenced pistol. At times it almost felt like an open-world Hitman game, which was really cool.

Overall, even despite its glaring flaws this is probably in my Top 5, maybe even Top 3 open world games ever. It just sucks knowing how much better it could've been had Hangar 13 injected the missions with more variety and spent more time polishing the game (especially the PC port... jesus, what a mess).

God damned bugs are getting to me. I didn't crash much in the first hours but lately I get a crash to desktop one or two times every play session. Feels like they're getting more frequent too.

I finally purchased it today after renting and being let down by the frame pacing. The patch makes this game a completely different experience! It runs smooth as hell. Even cutscenes are smoother. Even if it gets repetitive, I'm loving this open world. Keep the patches coming, because this game deserves it.

Welp, I just finished it tonight.

I did some listening in (the term escapes me) and was able to pinpoint a few garbage barges. However, before I even got to them, Lincoln had picked up enough cash laying about to finish off that racket for me. (While I was killing guards protecting them.)

That was the last major racket I had left. Then I unlocked the new part of town.

At the end, I chose to leave town. That was the Lincoln I wanted to be, and is most in line with my personality. Vito took over and expanded the city like crazy.

I finished my run of the other route where Lincoln is a real asshole. Stopped when I got the platinum cause I absolutely hated playing that version of Lincoln and it felt like I was a GTA protagonist without the actual reason and goading necessary for the role.

Felt really out of place

Just tried getting into it again and it's so stale. Alerting the cops is just annoying too as they are so hard to get rid of. I really wanted to enjoy this game too.

The cop system in Mafia 3 is probably one of its stronger features imo. Once you work out that it is more realistic than GTA etc you can quite easily get rid of them. The search logic they use makes sense and if you hide from their field of view they don't telepathically know where you went.

For example if you have 2 cops tailing you...make a few hard turns and then go into a side alley and then watch as they go screaming past. Stay in the alley long enough and they will eventually lose contact and give up. It may be one of the finer details alot of players will miss as they will just try to outrun the cops GTA style.

I think I am nearing the end soon.

Still very much love everything about the game.

And at the moment Donovan is one the best new characters this gen. Love the guy.

I just got an email from CDKeys basically begging me to buy the game at £18, it won't be long before I can grab it for £10 which is what I feel comfortable paying for it in the hopes it gets fixed.

Okay I think I've messed up. I have assigned 1 district to Cassandra, one to Vito and one to Burke. I just assigned another to Vito, and now on the 5th district I've already assigned 2 rackets to Vito. I just decided I want to distribute all territories equally, is it too late?

When you assign a district then the rackets go to them. So Vito might get a little upset buy you can reassign the district where he has two rackets to someone else. Make sure to do the side missions for the people so they stay loyal and don't get too upset

Finished the game. I enjoyed my time but I'm a little upset I picked up the collectors edition, I'm not clamoring for more mafia right now and I have the season pass or whatever. I like open world crime games a lot though so I don't know maybe other people milage may vary?

My pros and cons in more specific (but non spoiling) detail:

The truly bad: its a very buggy game. the lighting is just weird. The game crashed on me numerous times, I had one bug where every truck/tanker in the game flew into the air and exploded, on its own for no reason, it was actually kind of glorious.

The truly good: The story and characters are great, the framing device is great as well. Gunplay is meaty and satisfying, The game features lots of internal environments, the soundtrack/radio while not having a large amount of songs is almost perfect for this game, and the actual graphics were good when the lighting wasn't trying to put on a laser show.

THIS FUCKING CHECKPOINT SYSTEM

Against my better knowledge I did another of Cassandra's side missions, in this case bringing a truck from the other side of the city. Get it, get killed by a squad of assassins on the way back, OK fair enough. Second try, steer into a friendly outpust when they come to deal with them. Then take a screen shot of a nice view once I'm on the way back again, at which point the game crashes. Start it up again and of course I no longer have the truck in my hands but will have to steal it again.

I want to see this story to the end but it's close to breaking me.

Steve Gaynor drew a parallel to Far Cry 2, seeing similarities in Mafia 3's mechanics and mission structure. Neat! As someone who is indifferent to the Far Cry series outside of Clint Hocking's game, it's really exciting to see another team continue that legacy.

So I posted a few days back, but I lost my save file on the PC. I had just finished
the meetup at the mansion with the 3 people.

Wondering if anyone has a save file around there that I could get a copy of. Please feel free to PM me if you have such a save file, I would be forever grateful. Thanks.

Far Cry 2 was much better, much more varied and more fun. I wanted Mafia III to be great, but was disappointed by it as a huge fan of the second one.

I've still yet to play the original Far Cry, due to a lack of a console to play it on at the time (or a PC), but love the other four (2, 3, 4 and Primal). Instincts was okay.

Wow I loved the ending(the mid credits scene). What awesome payoff. Give me that game premise and sequel.

I echo many others in saying this games biggest problem is there's too much of it. The front half of the game should've been shortened. The main missions and story are fantastic.

Wow the contextual dialogs are amazing in this game. They really managed to make your three buddies organic, their replies notice all your choices, the previous wards you gave, the previous bosses you killed and the previous rackets you dispatched.
And not only in the after bosses cutscenes, but when you got them on the phone too. Pretty amazing.

I'll give you that Far Cry 2 had more dynamic, systemic possibilities and the presentation was bolder, but I don't agree one bit that the gameplay was more varied. I think the combat and driving in Mafia 3 is on a completely different level. I also can't get on board with Mafia 2 being superior to the sequel in any capacity. It was the definition of a sophomore slump. It doesn't hang with Mafia 1 & 3. I never felt like I was part of any criminal system in that game, either as a lowly foot solider or a made guy. The antagonists were non-existent and the world presented criminal activities in a completely plot-convenient, perfunctory manner.

Then again, Far 1, 3, 4 and Primal do nothing for me, so different strokes for different folks and all that.

Doing the Garbage racket and suddenly enemies who work in garbage disposal wear helmets and are immune to headshots.

This is some MGS stuff right here.
