I had a bunch of fun with the demo, but I'm not quite sure why?
Typically, I'm not an JRPG guy and I really kind of struggle to get engaged in any traditional Final Fantasy game's combat. So while I was falling asleep trying to play FFIV, for some reason this was way more fun.
Is it because the demo was super easy?
Is it because mana is replenished within battle and I don't have to bulk order ethers to use a pretty basic gameplay mechanic?
Is it because of the Pokemon-esque collection system that directly impacts how you strategize and customize your combat?
I have no idea. But it also makes me concerned because I wonder if this is an unrepresentative vertical slice of the game. It seems to me like it's a very intentionally made demo just to demonstrate mechanics and not actually how the environments and gameplay would be like.
tl;dr: Had fun playing demo, not sure if I'll have fun with the full game. Also because I don't know if I could tolerate the over-cutesy and grating VAs and story that long. Strange feeling to have that even I can't explain or describe properly.

People keep saying the story is crap, but I'm not expecting anything moving. So long as it's basic and competent, I'll be happy with it I think.
I think I probably should've picked the PS4 for performance reasons now that i've tried both.
But oh well, my Vita copy might be getting here tomorrow and it already shipped, so i'll deal. At least the performance in battle is still snappy with no UI lag, so I can deal with that stuff being limited to the field.

The same thing happens with selecting English voices in the the Japanese demo, apparently. It probably saved Square putting two language tracks in the demo.
As long as it's a demo only thing.
That being said, I find myself underwhelmed by the demo, and am considering a different game.

Based on some of the cutscenes we've seen, the companion might be one of the more tolerable characters.

If you preorder the game then you will get a DLC code for the Japanese audio.
They'll probably sell it for like $5 a month or two after the game releases anyways.

The code is in all Day 1 editions. And we all know with SE those are going to stick around for a while...What's so disgusting about that....

They probably have to pay the Japanese actors if they use their voices in the international version. Given how few people really care, it makes sense to offer it as an extra.

i just beat the demo twice and I have officially preordered the vita version two minutes ago!
Well, I didn't like the demo, but stopped short of cancelling my preorder. I'm hoping in the context of playing the game from the beginning, I will appreciate the combat and other mechanics more than I did this time around. I'm nervous, but will remain as optimistic as possible.
I'm torn between this and dropping the game completely.

For some reason the demo was hard for me but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Graphics looked great on the PS4. Went to classic mode during battle and it felt great!

Have been super stoked for this game. Need something a little less serious, but I played the demo and....I don't know. It just didn't click with me.
Don't really know why or have a particular complaint....I just turned it off with a big feeling of "Meh".

Damn man.. really, really mixed on this. I had the limited edition for PS4 pre-ordered cancelled for the Vita version then I played the demo on Vita and was not impressed at all so i cancelled that i bought Builders & DQ7 day 1 tho so I did my part.

The encounter rate is kinda high but I really liked the demo. I feel like the odd one here. I am glad the cameos are one liners in the demo too, I don't really care for too much banter in a cross over game like this.
I have the game ordered on Amazon. Hopefully it's a pleasant surprise. I have been on a roll buying stinkers like No Man's Sky and Star Ocean V. Hoping to not be tricked by this.

Not so sure about that. Take Megadimension Neptunia VII's PS4 release earlier this year. They have the Japanese Voice Overs as DLC for anyone who wants it for free on the PSN marketplace.
with Dragon Quest Builders, DQVII3DS and FFXV flanking this on both sides by a few weeks, I think I am gonna have to hold off on this until a good sale down the road. Game plays a bit on the janky side for my taste. Now, if they'd released this a month or more earlier, I could see myself getting it Day 1. Stop squeezing all your releases together, Square-Enix.

Yeah, same here. I remember I also hated the Uncharted demo, but the actual game was a million times better. That was actually the demo that made me stop playing demos because of that.
EDIT: In terms of what I do like, I think it's awesome that Tidus is a summon, and I can't wait to see the other FF characters.
Felt a little better this way, thanks. I may still get it because the trailers at the end of the demo looked amazing.
