TITANFALL 2 |OT| Don't Misgender Tone.

Played a few matches of this after playing Battlefield 1 and I have to say I'm not a fan so far. Maybe I just need to play around with it more, but coming from Titanfall 1 this seems crappier. I remember this being a complaint in the beta, but so far all of the maps I have played just do not feel like they really take advantage of wall-running that match. It feels like wall-running is "Just there" instead of being an intregral part of the movement system in the sense that there are a few buildings and walls you can climb on, but a lot of the environment seems like it discourages wall running by having indoor buildings to go through or large spaced out walls so you can't get some flow. Also, the movement just feels slower for some reason which is strange since they added the grapple hook and sliding. I don't know I just can't get a feel of things compared to how fluid and fast paced TF1 was.

Tried bumper jumper. So damn hard to get used to. May have to grab a scuf.

I switched to bumper jumper before beginning the campaign so by the time I was done with it it felt natural

I felt the same way but I played the campaign and got comfortable with the different feel of the game. It's really good. Several of the maps aren't that great but most of them I like a lot and are even More intricately designed that the maps in TF1

I have come to the conclusion that all my teammates are bad lol.

Yeah I'm having a hard time winning matches :-/

I needed a battery really badly and a teammate of mine was running around in a circle with a battery while I was chasing them trying to get their attention lol

I get the feeling this will be a slow burn to good pop numbers: the marketing wasn't really on point, the timing was bad but the game is so good I see a cult following building to big numbers of the next few weeks; in spite of COD dropping.

Something this good deserves to be rocking massive numbers, and so say we all.

If the game is good, people will come. See Rainbw Six Siege, and that is a more niche genre of shooter.

Bought this on PC, I hope the population is sustainable for a couple of weeks. If not, the campaign sounds good at least.

You'll be fine. I played TF1 on PC for like a year without issue finding games in attrition, hardpoint and sometimes CTF.

So I played a few hours of multiplayer tonight and noticed it said 20k people were online at most -- this is PS4, mind you. That seems like an incredibly low number for how good this game is.

Or is that pretty decent for how long the game has been out?

I'm expecting relatively weak population numbers to be the norm, but a relatively serious playerbase so there should always be people to play with, given you want to play the inevitable one or two modes that wind up populated. Respawn totally shit the bed with the release date and marketing.

I'm not expecting a R6: Siege situation either. If you want a tactical shooter, on console especially, you have basically nowhere else to go so with the support the game got, eventually people were going to show up. This is competing with all the other big players on the market, including Overwatch, COD, BF1, and even Destiny for people who hate themselves enough to slog through that shotgun infested disaster. Everyone's basically just hoping word of mouth moves more copies, I'd say.

Ion is fucking terrible, I'm great with tone in LTS or other modes but Ion yuck!! The fucking rifle does shit damage!! It says there's an alternative mode how do you activate that? I really don't like how yiu need to manage that energy meter when playing with it.

Tone all fucking day!

So whats the population like on PC right now? Is everyone playing attrition or are other modes playable as well?

In Asia (Taiwan servers) it's mostly Attrition and Bounty Hunt. I really wish they'd put Variety 8v8 on the first page, because there's no one playing it. About 15000 total players at peak times.

Zooming in makes the shots spread further so you hit more often but some can miss and do less damage overall. I like Ion honestly. Legion is stupid powerful though.

Hope you're right. Not in a negative sense, but in that I want Respawn to succeed and see the playerbase grow despite the less than ideal release window.

I'm on the Tokyo server, and while I find matches for Bounty and Attrition no problem, Variety and some of the other modes show literally "0" players when searching... Thought it might have been a bug. Anyone else seeing the same?

Really fancy some variety pack mp to keep things fresh, but don't really want to abandon this glorious ping.

Just play on west coast US servers, ping should be in the 200s for you but playable. I just hook up a VPN on my router and do it that way.

Just use ADS and it activates the alt firing mode. I've been using nothing but Ion. Just reached gen2 with Ion and R-201. I wouldn't say Ion is terrible. Use the laser shot more often I guess. Great for killing pilots, goosing pilots. Deals major damage to doomed titans and decent damage to regular health bars. With Legion being popular, vortex shield is amazing.

Titanfall 1 has great multiplayer and terrible singleplayer.

Titanfall 2 has great singleplayer and terrible multiplayer.

Hopefully they manage to nail both sides of the equation in Titanfall 3.

Multiplayer needs a massive change if they want to gain and retain a playerbase.

Locking anything besides cosmetics into something you have to grind is so 2008 that it's baffling no one said, 'hey, this is a really fucking dumb idea.' of course, it lines up with all the snowballing the games multiplayer allows to happen as well. And no one stoppe that.

I don't mind the grind too much. I do think they need to reduce the number of playlists drastically. Something like 6 playlists total, and that's it. Make one of them rotate through different modes from week to week. There's no reason to split the small playerbase up that much.

BF1 has a similar grind. It's not as bad as previous BF games, but you're grinding soldier levels to get access to the rank 4 guns like the BAR that is, at the moment, one of the more OP guns of the game.
I don't know anything about modern CoD, but it looks like it has loot boxes, so that's even worse.
The grind isn't really the problem.

On that note, earning credits can drag at times, but otherwise it's not a bad system.
If I read correctly, anything you buy doesn't get reset when you regen, so I guess that's a way to make the whole prestige system a lot less painful. They probably want you to unlock things you know you are going to use.

Battlefield and COD already have the playerbase. They don't have anything to prove. Titanfall 1 wasn't exactly a mega blockbuster.

Yeah I'm convinced my teammates have no idea what the fuck they're doing. It is making me cringe watching people not even consider using mobility and just playing like Cod :(

Massively enjoying the campaign! On the back of BF1 which i liked also, this feels much better all round, and the level of performance and polish is fantastic. Also, special mention to the audio...very satisfying, punchy and with great transparity and clarity...v.nice.

The thing is that TF1 had pretty much no unlock system and people complained about it back then, so...

(Personally I preferred TF1 where there were just 5 different guns instead of now where there are so many varieties that it's hard to keep track of which ones you should use.)

There's just one gun though, the R201.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not very VPN/router savvy, but I'll give west coast a try.

By the way, when do you "regen"? Guessing that's Titan-talk for "prestige"?
Does it do anything besides imply you have experience and lots of cool skins?

When it shows the amount of players online, isn't that for the data center you're connected to?

Yeah, it's prestige. It's the only way to get cosmetics.

There's player regen which is the one you know from CoD, and then there's regen on weapons and titans, which basically lets you unlock cosmetics and the kill counter on those specific items.

So I'm reading the campaign is surprisingly great?

That's a nice surprise, after the disastrous MP demo.

I'll pick it up in three months when its $20.

I am so completely in love with these burn stars.

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate the Sonar Pulse and Map Hack. I'd be completely fine if only Tone had wallhacks, but people are abusing the hell out of these abilities. I'm coated in orange for like half of most of my matches and it makes flanking so much harder because there are no countermeasures when 3-4 people are popping these things every 30 seconds. There are already no silenced weapons, which I'm okay with, but this is overkill. Everyone's always lit up on your UI.

This is probably the thing that's been annoying me the most mechanically about the game.

Every step of the way, this game feels like it does not want you to be out of sight from other players.

Cool, thanks. Didn't realise there was regen for player and weapons/titans.
When (at what level?) do you reach that for each?

Played my first Attrition match. Was down early but we came back and won. Two enemies called in their titans right next to each other and I salvo core'd them to death before the pilots could even hop in :(

wat. ion is fun as hell. the shoulder mounted laser is what you really need to use first. it does a lot of damage, especially if you hit crits with it, and then you ads so the gun goes into it's secondary fire which is more powerful. plus you have the trip mines incase someone charges you and the vortex shield to block shit and send it back into their faces.

ion is great.
