From an Australian where the presidential election in the US is big news I am seriously scared for the world.

y u do dis America.

I'm going to go on a long rant here and I'm sure in this fast moving thread no one will read it, but it's going to be at least a little cathartic. I'm also going to put this forum on blast a bit.

You know, I'm just going to take a moment to say that some of us tried to warn so many of you. The whole "social justice warrior" online movement or whatever you want to call it that this forum in particular has come to be dominated by. Shame and spite do not do anything to help one's cause.

Unrepentantly calling all white people racists and bigots and sexists and misogynists is what brought this on. I've joked on here about voting for and supporting Trump, but god knows I never actually did. But I've always been able to at least sympathize with those "deplorables" for the blatant hypocrisy on the left when it comes to all of those social issues that dominate social media these days.

too many people on the left, and on GAF especially, remind me of the conservatives in the years following 9/11 under Bush. Everything was viewed through a polarizing, black and white filter. You are either with us or with the terrorists. You are either a ____ist or you're not.

You can't demonize and shame people and expect they'll agree with you. They'll only dig their heels in further, especially if they feel attacked.

This is some real truth here, folks:
All the people who are very likely or even (ugh) probably going to put Donald fucking Trump in the White House tonight are not voting because they hate women or blacks or mexicans or whoever else. I'm also not saying that the hatred isn't a factor, because it's been shown repeatedly that at least on some level it's an animating force for all of this... but people are complex animals but you've turned them into cartoon villains and stereotypes without every trying to understand them or why they actually feel the way they do.

Polarization is bad. The right has been polarized for a long time, but now the left is too, and it's biting them back hard tonight. If Trump wins and has the House and Senate behind him, this is literally the end of America as we know it and the beginning of a new BRIC nation world alignment. That's really fucking bad.

There’s been a lot of talk about Clinton trailing in Michigan and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania may be a far bigger problem. Clinton is up by just 4 percentage points, and that lead is slipping as more of the vote comes in from outside the Philadelphia media market. Clinton cannot lose Pennsylvania and win the election.

I mean, did you ever stop to think about why that is?

White people are the majority and the holders of power in the USA. Them being racist towards other groups is using and abusing that power.

Being racist towards white people is almost meaningless because it's coming from the position without any power, the minority group. They have no leverage. Because white people put them in that position.

This is why it's not at all similar.
Racism is negatively judging an individual based on his or her skin color, without knowing anything about them as a human being.

Millions of white people in America did not vote for Trump (myself included).

I passionately and unequivocally refuse the notion racism is magically acceptable if it's aimed at a majority group.

Racism is ugly and horrific, no matter who the target is.

Welp.

I really don't know what else to say other than I'm extremely disappointed in my home state and the nation in general.

Just... Fuck.

I really am sad right now. Not because of Hillary losing, but because of the precedence this makes for Muslim Americans

It hurts

The only person Trump could have beat is Clinton

The only person Clinton could beat is Trump.

If you want to blame someone blame the Democrat electorate for throwing up an unlikable candidate in a fit of nostalgia.

Well I was hoping for Paul Ryan for the 2020 Presidency which can still happen but wow...

Trump really exceeded all expectations as expected. People were afraid to say they voted for him but they came out and did indeed...

Flabbergasted. In the back of my mind I always knew there were still lots of racist etc folks in rural areas mostly and whatnot, but I can't believe there were so so many. Outcome aside I really desperately want to see the breakdown and exactly what the fuck happened here.

The Patrick Klepek tweet pretty much echoes my thoughts right now; I'm white and straight as is my wife, so we'll be "okay" but I can't imagine right now being a minority, poc, LBGT etc etc. With the likely recession and financial ramifications of this outcome everything I had planned is on hold, and we 100% will not be having children now; Trump being president is going to steer SCOTUS for a generation and that's not including all of the other massive changes mentioned by others in the thread (Roe v Wade, ACA, etc).

We're fucked. I'm so sorry rest of the world.

I'm a white male. I'm not really straight or able, but I still feel deeply, deeply ashamed of my demographic, and I'm deeply sorry and empathetic on behalf of those who will no doubt suffer more than me.
