PlayStation 4 Pro |Launch Thread| PS4 Reloaded

Finish and build quality look nice

Finish is quite a bit better than the OG, but I consider that console pretty low quality in that regard.

I like it a lot more in person than I did in pictures.

Matte consoles always look better in person. The inevitable white version should look significantly nicer I reckon.

Dude, give PS4 Pro some air. You will hold PS4 in that tiny space?

Should be fine, had my PS4 in the same spot for over a year and even in Summer nothing happened.

Where did you get stand?

Just picked up PS4 Pro at Gamestop 9PM Launch

EB, but the guy had to go out the back to find it. Could be scarce during launch.

So the word is that while the extra graphical features for Tomb Raider are nice, playing the game at a higher resolution or higher framerate are better options.

To be honest I could care less about "sun-soft shadows" and the like. Image clarity and / or framerate are far more noticeable.

Got my PS4 Pro at GameStop launch event at 10pm local time (Mountain). Threw in a bunch of my discs to do some patch fetching, gonna keep it in sleep for a couple of hours then start trying out whatever's fully updated, though I imagine most of my downloads, if not all of them, will be done by then.

Titanfall 2, Ratchet & Clank, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield 1 (think we're still waiting on that Pro patch though) and COD: Infinite Warfare are what I queue'd for update, as well as all my PSVR games: Batman, Driveclub, EVE, PSVR Demo Disc, Rez, Rigs, Robinson, Rush of Blood, and Thumper. Titanfall 2 already patched up and ready to go, but I wanted the other downloads to move along more quickly and I still got a batch of laundry to finish and might go get some late night food.

Lots to try out. I already beat Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One last year, so really excited to see the visual upgrades since I'm actually quite familiar with how the game looks. Also quite excited to see if there's big leap up in visual quality for some of the VR games. I liked the PSVR fine on my vanilla PS4, but I can admit that some stuff could use a nice visual tuneup, and it seems that's what's been delivered by some of the Pro patches.

I own a few more titles that I could start to install but I felt that was a good field of games that I want to test AND that I'm actually interested in playing. I've owned Ratchet since launch but never beat it, only got about 4 hours in. Currently working through Advanced Warfare. Just got Battlefield 1 earlier today thanks to Target flash sale.

So it says 3 hours to transfer 1TB from my old PS4 via Ethernet, don't see a progress bar so no idea if the estimate is on track. Going to bed now.

Anyone have their local Target showing to have in stock online? It looks like they enabled in store pick up, but no store in the area is listing stock yet.

Walked into Wal-Mart a little after midnight and asked for a Pro which were no where to be seen. After a brief wait, she brought back what I was told was 1 of 3 Pros they received.

Now to begin the transfer proccess.

It's really not a good idea. I know it looks nice and neat, but this is a device that's generating serious amounts of heat, and you're making it way more difficult for it to displace that heat. Heat is what kills these things.

So I just got home with my Pro. About to take my 2TB HDD out of my Destiny PS4 and swap it into my Pro.

Just deactivated my Destiny PS4, now how do I format the drive to prepare it to be installed in the Pro?

Just put it in your pro it will auto format.

Restoring a 2TB drive in the Pro now. Glad I cleared all but 16GB of data. It's already 2:20.

Tomorrow, I'm probably going to reroute all of the wiring behind my media center. A lot has changed over the last couple of weeks, and it's bothering me knowing it's not clean back there. Playing games will feel much better when that's finished.

Tomb Raider looks fucking boss in 4K mode. I expected it to look extremely similar to the "1080p Enhanced" mode, but the difference is night and day in terms of clarity! Although I'd like to use the 60fps mode, there's simply no way I can go back after playing at 4K for an hour.

Also, just tried out Uncharted 4 and the difference is so minor that I can barely tell a difference. As the above poster pointed out (although I've no idea where this information is coming from?), I really hope Naughty Dog works on another patch to really knock it out the park.

Another edit - also gave Ratchet and Clank a whirl and the game looks pristine. CG-movie level pristine with absolutely no aliasing in sight. Pixar visuals are finally here! Damn, I'll have to restrain myself from playing through it a third time.

Not sure if someone's mentioned this or not in the last 19 pages but didn't see it on the first few pages.

Regarding internal psu, YES, I can personally confirm, ntsc-j, ntsc-u and pal units all have 100-240v universal PSU's, unlike Sony's page that claims only AC 100v

I haven't seen any reviews mention it either so I went ahead and confirmed it first hand.

OP, would 'preciate it if this can be added to the spec list on the first post as all the major gaming sites are simply copy-pasting the wrong info from the sony site.

Well swapped out the 2TB HDD into the Pro. Got BF1, TF2, MWR, IW and a few others downloading as we speak on that sweet 5ghz WiFi. Popped in Ratchet and Clank to try out while I waited.

Holy fucking Christ. Game looks like a Pixar film. Pristine IQ. Mind blowing.

For reference playing on a Samsung HU8700 65" Curved with a SEK-3500 connected for HDR.

Fuck. Better than expected.

As someone that is used to playing 4K native games on this TV with my PC, I can say this is every bit as impressive.

If other PS4 Pro games are even half as impressive as Ratchet and Clank, then god damn am I happy with my purchase.

Anyone have issues with their display? Once I select automatic it goes blank. Have a LG OLED.

I have an LG 4k set. I've had my pro since monday and still can't figure out how to get it to work on that tv, I have a permanent blank screen with some minor white flickering. I gave up and have it running on my older 1080p plasma with no issues.

Just ordered mine off of Amazon and it will be here Friday. I was thinking of waiting until Horizon comes out, but I've seen enough improvements on 1080p games that I took the plunge. Well that and getting some money today for my Birthday definitely helped. I'm still going to wait until next year for a 4K TV because I want to see what new stuff gets announced.

Sounds like a cable issue, remember some 4K sets don't have hdmi 2.0 on every socket sometimes you have to use a certain hdmi in on the tv.

From the SATA III/SSD thread:

Whether the gains are worth the extra cost is up to you.

Isnt that roughly the same as the improvements you could get with the original ps4 using an ssd? The pro is still heavily bottlenecked and imo its not worth putting an ssd in it.

I've tried every hdmi port and several different cables, ultra hdmi set to on and off for each port, nothing has worked. I'm thinking it might be a tv firmware issue or my tv might just be not very good. It's an entry level 4k.

Is Skyrim Remastered already patched for 4K? Wish something would indicate the mode you're running a game in.

Man this worries me, people need some sort of indication that the visuals have improved without it being super obvious. Jeff alluded to this in the latest bombcast.

DAMN, Infamous First Light looks amazing in HDR. I played around with the Performance vs. Resolution settings, and it looks even better when running at 60fps (or close to it).
From where I was sitting, ~6 foot away, I didn't notice a drop in resolution.

It makes me want to play the Evil path of Second Son again, since I only did a Good playthrough.
Also, if you have a Samsung, I ran through these calibration settings and it looks awesome.

If it's a Samsung it's most likely only HDMI 1, and you have to toggle "UHD Color" in the Advanced Picture settings. Also, update your firmware via USB. The Samsung OTA updates have been spotty for me. As in, they release new firmware on their support site, but it's not getting it OTA, so I had to use USB to update.
