COMICS!!! |OT| December 2016. Motor Girl is my new Motor Crush

I started reading more Shutter vol 1 after hours of overwatch last night, I'm completely put off the book now because a character said action figures are dolls. You go too far Keatinge.

Aren't Overwatch characters with all of those skins basically dolls, too?

Hopeless on Jean, ehhhh. Fine. I guess.

Jean's book winding up for another round of Phoenix stories, blehhh. Could be good I guess but probably won't be.

Hopeless isn't really a bad choice for a Jean solo. Ibanez tho. Besides it's all just Phoenix shit again, proving that Jean is a character who has nothing left. Just like Angel and Archangel.

Are you buying the single volumes or the box sets?

(Also kind of annoyed that the Christmas box set turned out to be a "double-dip").
Fixed the thumb. It was bugging me

Why write a Jean book and immediately explore her most famous and most stifling story

Why not let the character grow a little first. Seems pretty cynical

You must have strongly misunderstood my post.

This simply isn't true since Rachel is right there on the Gold team. Hopeless mentions Rachel so he is aware of her existence. The premise of the book is flawed.

You probably should have put that quote in your original post because that's confusing lol.

They will probably be a reason why only Jean can do it since Hopeless knows there are other hosts out there.

Because Jean has two storylines: Phoenix, and Scott vs Wolverine.

That's fucking it. And not a single damn person wants to do something new, so somehow they act like another Phoenix storyline will do the trick.

"Okay here me out. So she's prepping for the Phoenix, except this time she's younger. Eh? Eh? How about it?"

It's baffling how tone-deaf they are with this character. I'm very curious how this will sell.
I mean she's one of the most famous X-Men out there for a good reason. I've never been fond of her not because I dislike her or anything, but because I found her to be boring. "Everyone loves Jean and if you don't you're a bad, bad man!" got real old, real quick for me. No one seems to want to change that no matter how shitty she acts, so I'm not really inclined to change my mind. Dark Phoenix saga was great, but for fuck's sake unless you're going to do something actually fresh, then just don't bother. Fuck I don't even care if it's as simple as "turns out there's an evil Phoenix called Nega-Phoenix!" or some shit. Just SOMETHING.

I mean Young Jean in particular. The Iceman thing alone was enough for me.

BK is not wrong in that those are the only two old Jean stories anyone cares about.

But young Jean not being burdened with the Phoenix is one of her best character traits. It opens her up to a lot of opportunities old Jean never had. So yeah I do think it is a cynical move to go there immediately. Creatively and strategically.

So, I'm sitting on some Amazon credit. I want to buy some Valiant books on Comixology (to take advantage of linewide sale). You can't use the Amazon credit directly, but you can buy Kindle/ComiXology copies through Amazon's store.

Problem #1 - a few of the items that should be on sale are the wrong price
Problem #2 - a few items are flat-out missing Kindle versions (Book of Death most notably)

Edit: talking about trades here; single issues might be available.

That's why I thought Trial of Jean Grey was so interesting. She's saying "Fuck the Phoenix. Fuck you. Fuck your ancestors. Fuck your cows. Fuck your couch. You genocided my bloodline and now you're blaming me for something I haven't done yet. Fuck literally everyone." I liked that.

And then Lemire comes along and gives her Phoenix powers again. I liked that she had also developed a new power that lasted for all of Bendis' book.

Also, this is why I'm pissed about Young Warren and dropped All-New. The cosmic wings were turning into Archangel 2.0 all over again. And no one will ever be able to do anything interesting with Archangel again after Remender.

Never.

Especially since Rachel is right there on the other major team. This bothers me more than AvX because now they actively have Rachel hanging around. They are artificially inflating an issue that at this point is creatively more tired than Komala.

Yes to all of this. The Trial of Jean Grey should be the template for this book.

THAT is the Young Jean Phoenix story.

Hopeless seems like a stronger writer on solo titles than on team books. The reason All-New X-Men has improved is that each issue has been focusing on one or two characters. The good parts of AA were this way as well.

I don't think he has been successful juggling the whole roster of ANXM in a single issue. Not once. And when they are all featured in an issue, he is loathe to put them all in the same room.

All New Xmen and Avengers Arena share one thing that makes me dislike Hopeless - awful portrayals of Laura Kinney. Really do not like her portrayed as Logan lite when her entire series established her as much more of a cooler headed, more operative type.

The mystery continues and we got an extra layer of WTF on top. Also, this wasn't a Halloween issue. We was lied to.

Man, new watch dogs is actually pretty good. I know reviews were good but still, surprised.

How long until the annotated watchmen noir I wonder
