I wonder if Konami will realize their fuck up when Resident Evil 7 releases.

Kojima was going to revive a franchise, not for honor, but for you, Konami.

Kojima wasted millions and many years making MGS5 for what is likely a small return.

Konami made a crap ton of money on cheap Pachinko games that probably required 1 programmer, 1 artist and 1 hardware designer.

You think they'd entertain the idea of another project from Kojima that could take untold years and be expensive as hell?

A famous director and actor aren't cheap.

People can be all #fuckkonami all day but that decision to dump the games is totally understandable.

Locking him in a cupboard for 6 months sounds pretty bad. But the guy was VP at Konami for years. He's bound to be a well off millionaire.

People hate on Konami but they did a good thing. If they hadn't ousted Kojima, he'd be locked in a dungeon at Konami HQ making another MGS game. Now he's free to do whatever he wants. You should all be thanking Konami. #ThankKonami

Didn't Konami make back their money in the first couple of days MGS5 was out?

This can be easily remedied by Konami bringing back Team Silent (Imamura, Yamaoka, Ito, Tsuboyama, Owaku, etc) and announcing the real Silent Hill 5 made on Fox Engine. ;)

Do it, Konami. Find redemption!

Why does PES have to be so good? I hate Konami, but nowhere near enough to play FIFA ever again

It's good that it worked out but that doesn't excuse their shitty behavior.

Konami is doing fine business wise. I do not like it but getting out of the high risk AAA game business was a shrewd move. I hope they'll do IP licensing in the future to leverage some of their old strength. Even if Konami turned around tomorrow and did "right by gamers" they would already have bleed too much talent.

No budgetary reason justifies that treatment and sabotaging of the game, they impacted it's potential sales by shipping an incomplete game, they also slapped gamers in the face by thinking this type of practice is acceptable.

It was the right move, they chose to focus on mobile so it makes sense to drop AAA development.
The thing was that Kojima didnt want to make mobile games (He was an executive) so head to be "removed".
I think it was the right move for the company but they botched the execution.

Yeah I wasn't being serious :)

My sarcasm radar just doesn't work on GAF unfortunately. I suppose that was an obvious one, but there have been plenty defending Konami on here today.

For example:

Well maybe Kojima shouldn't have crippled the company with ludicrous budgets for his weird wannabe-hollywood projects. The Fuck Konami bandwagon (probably coming mostly from Kojima fanboys rather than old Konami fans anyway) has gotten way out of control. God forbid a company wants to avoid bankruptcy by leaving a non-profital branch. It sucked for the lost IPs, but that's just reality and we already saw this coming at the beginning of the decade.

Good. Konami is an awful company that treats employees like garbage and has a blatant lack of respect for consumers and the products they sell to them.

The sooner they drop out of the industry and focus on their damn Pachinko machines, the better.

You should finish your post with excuses for how they treated their other employees. Poor, misunderstood Konami.

It's crazy how wild people went over PT and then konami decides to cancel the game and tries to even purge PT from existence.

"Fuck Konami" goes way beyond "poor Kojima" or "I miss Hudson games" (though both are valid). Look up how they treat their employees some time, in particular creative staff that made them one of the biggest names in gaming. And to cut off a potential response, no, that's not normal, even for Japanese companies.

Oh right, all these reports about the torture chamber Konami, which barely had any serious sources backing it up.

Oh, so you DO know, you just don't give a shit. But you're going to blame the sources.

That pachinko machine is wireless without the brand power of mgs. And lol if you think it requires 1 programmer and designer. Nothing is ever that easy.

I'm still really upset by the Silent Hills cancellation. They talent involved was splendid, and PT managed to created hype seemingly unmatched at this point. I think Silent Hills would have been something really special.

I do hope that Kojima and Del Toro get to collaborate on some type of horror project someday. The potential there is too great to go to waste.

Not in this tweet.

All the reports were conflicting, I have yet to see confirmation of these things. All of it seemed like overblown fantasy to keep the hate train rolling.

Yeah, no serious sources. Not like Kojima himself just last night admitted that he had been locked in a room on a different floor than the rest of his team for the last six months of MGS V development while the only communication he was allowed to have was through a mediator in the building. Oh yeah, then there was the whole gag order Konami forced on him that prevented him from even being able to turn up at a damn awards show last year.
Oh Jesus please stop. As much as I like Silent Hill, Konami have all the rights to do whatever they want with their IPs. If they want to bail out the AAA business, so be it. It's actually understandable, given the direction the industry has taken.
Shall we throw more #fuckthis #fuckthat around for every canceled game? Where's #FuckMicrosoft for Fable or #FuckRockstar for Agent? What about #FuckSony for EightDays? Come on, get over it. The real problem here is the AAA industry itself.
The problem is that a man was locked in a fucking room for six months and not allowed contact with his own team. Fuck the games for just a second, Konami's treatment of this man as an employee was fucking sickening and inexcusable.
Please, just try to defend their choice there.

Fuck Konami isn't about Konami leaving the AAA business as much as it is about the way they treated Kojima in the process.

Not in this tweet.

But your post did. And guess what? If they didn't like Kojima's budgets, there were ways to deal with that. They went far and above that.

All the reports were conflicting, I have yet to see confirmation of these things. All of it seemed like overblown fantasy to keep the hate train rolling.

"Hm, reports of poor employee treatment leaking out of normally secretive Japanese companies. Outward signs of Konami's mistreatment of their employees in other circumstances, including, but not limited to, their biggest name in gaming. ... Nope, don't see a connection."

(And I'm no "Kojima Fanboy", just to be clear.)
