Something is up with this game. Amazon states it is temporarily out of stock, even though it releases today. I'm going to go out and about in a couple of hours and see if it's out in the wild. I'll report back later guys. Really wanted to go physical release with this one. If I get impatient I know I'll end up buying it digitally. If I do, I may just wait for a price drop and buy a physical copy as well and just leave it sealed. I always regret buying digital since I'm an amateur collector (justifies my backlog). Especially with small titles like this. I like having the physical copy in cases like this.
I thought the season pass was 20?

Sure, we can play the 'but success will lead to new SSX/whatever' game, but this game does not deserve to be successful at all.

The game absolutely does deserve success. How many other games are out there which allow you to completely freely ski, snowboard, wingsuit and paraglide around a massive mountain with 0 load times?
Just because you can't grind or do ridiculous tricks like in SSX doesn't make it awful. And just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should fail.

I've played this game from alpha to closed beta to open beta, hoping it would improve with every milestone but seeing it fall way short every time.
It should fail on the greed of its season pass alone, but the game is terrible enough for that to not even matter anymore.
exactly. this game was so relaxing to me in the beta. I pretty much just skied (is it just me, or is ski a really weird word) and explored to my heart's content. if i wanted some excitement i would use the wingsuit and see if i could avoid impaling myself on trees and such. also, i'm kind of looking forward to earning different clothes and equipment. i'm a sucker for dress up in a game, and let's be honest, that's what it is, might as well be those old paper dolls that you put little paper clothes on them and fold the tabs to keep them from falling off.
I played for about 10 to 15 hours over the closed and open betas.
It is definitely not terrible and the fact that you want it to fail because you don't like it is ridiculous.
Also the greed of the season pass? What greed? It's a bunch of costumes and a few variations on the sports we already have. How's that any worse than most other season passes?
You call them greedy yet did you know that they'll be releasing an entire new mountain as a free update? Yup, totally greedy and deserve to fail for that.
I've seen this sentiment a couple times, what is it about the season pass that is so offensive? Legitimately asking since I don't see what pisses people off so much about this.

But the fact of the matter is: it's not even remotely great. The game has failed all on its own. Physics are borked to the point where every sport is either broken or a complete snoozefest.
'A few variations on the sports we already have' is downplaying it and you know it. But the Season Pass isn't even what bothers me. The game could be all about snowboarding and I'd be fine with that.
Also, they could bring in 15 new mountains at this point for all I care; they all look the same and they're completely barren. Which, again, would be fine (mountains are generally pretty barren!) if going down them was any fun at all.
OK, so it's that rocket wings, base jumping, and speed gliding are paid extras?
I mean I get that it would be cool if they were free but for one thing they're variations of the sports you already have (wing suit and paragliding) but more importantly they require development time to be made, tested, etc. Is it really super greedy and a "no-no" to ask people to pay for DLC? I mean we're all pretty used to this now right? And Alaska is a free update so it's not like they're not giving substantial content away for free already.

This, even if they are addons to existing sports. It's stupid that it's DLC.
and I played 30 fucking hours combined alpha/beta. The game is good but I'm not supporting this bullshit costume/removed features DLC.
If you're doing that nonsense then drop the price of the game.
I'm all for not buying costumes, I never pay money for them personally. But do you really think that the sports were in the game and even though they could have had them at launch they just removed them so they could sell them later? Do we really think that this is how game development is done?
Your response to someone saying "Please don't bomb" was "It's awful" and it "does not deserve to be successful". That sounds very much like you want it to fail because you don't like it.
That is most definitely not a fact. I completely disagree and think that it actually is pretty fucking great. I didn't notice anything majorly broken about the game and the sports certainly weren't boring (except maybe paragliding). I was loving every second of gliding down the mountain or skimming over the trees in a wingsuit.
Fun is completely subjective.
As for the new sports just being variations, that pretty much is true.
Speed gliding = faster paragliding
Base jumping = more vertical wingsuit
The sledge sounds like it might be a laugh but it's also just a sledge. It's not going to offer all that much of a difference compared to skiing/snowboarding.
The rocket wings sound like the biggest addition and even then they're basically just a faster wingsuit.
Even if they weren't just variations why would that be a massive problem? It's not like the base game looks to be lacking in content. There's 4 sports and 2 massive mountains to explore.

True, that's how I feel. I don't think this game deserves to be successful, because I think it completely fails in what it set out to do and is generally a Bad Game.
The concept was fantastic, but the execution is not. Snowboarding (your momentum, your weight) feels totally wrong, the wingsuit is floaty (no pun intended) and requires too little input to be exciting, and paragliding is a slightly interactive screensaver. The only thing that feels slightly accurate is skiing, but it's precious little fun to control.
With both skiing and snowboarding, doing anything other than just going straight down feels like the devs have never been on skis or on a snowboard in their entire lives.
But I'm happy for you that you feel otherwise, so I'd like to stop discussing this with you particularly. I don't want to give you or anyone else the impression that I'm trying to piss on your parade here. I'm sincerely glad you like it, even if I don't feel the same!

Thanks! Unfortunately I've got a busy day/weekend so I don't know if I'll be able to play much until tomorrow night.
The beta ran pretty good and looked decent, hoping for a bit of performance upgrade with the final release
I've seen a few comments on /r/steep saying that some optimisation has been done.
I'm still blown away by the lack of load times and the world map though. The fact that you can zoom all the way in right up to your character is insane. You can even see other people, I followed this one guy for a few minutes once as he skied along then zoomed out and went across to the other side of the map in half a second. It's ridiculous.

There was an article a little while ago talking about how things were intentionally cut from Watch Dogs 1 so they could put it in the sequel
I'm sorry but I would have to see statements from the producer and/or dev leads on the game saying that they did this. If you have the article then I'd be really interested in seeing it.
From my experience working on fairly major games at various studios I have seen a lot of features cut for various reasons. I have seen cut features, that didn't have enough time to get properly polished during production, make it into a patch or dlc later on. A lot of cut features game it into sequels since we have the base mechanics figured out and can now focus on the other stuff we wanted to do.
But in all the years I've made games I have NEVER seen a feature that could be finished by launch, or even worse is finished, held back so that it could be marketed and sold for more money later on.
If there is a concrete example of this happening like you say then I would be interested in seeing it, and I would absolutely advocate not supporting those games and practices.

I've noticed the IQ being much better (than the alpha) when playing the beta on Pro, but that could also have been the difference between alpha and beta. Looked a little too crisp to be 1080p, though.

Need confirmation but hearing reports from reddit people that IT IS running at 60 fps on pro. Need confirmation. Will buy if true.
Day off from work so playing now for a few, I went Gold and so far I'm 50/50 with the game, it's pretty hard and navigating the map is a little tough bit we'll see if it grows on me, been wanting a good snowboarding game. Also not sure how the MP works haven't seen anyone in my game yet

I dont think anyone got prerelease copies so we will probably just see reviews trickle in over the next week or two
