Knack 2 revealed at PSX 2016

Incredibly Naive
It is. People sometimes say it's a 3d beat 'em up, but I think a dodge 'em up would better describe it. If you go in to Knack button mashing your way through it, you are goung to have a bad time, if you are even somewhat more methodical it can be quite fun.

Pretty much. It's a very simple dodge and strike game. Your health is fairly low and you can't just run around smashing everything. Comparing to souls is absurd.

Knack was a great experience on hard. Lovely art style too. I never agreed with the overall consensus of the game here on gaf. Bring on number 2!

I'm saying it's bizarre that this universally panned game is getting a sequel. It's a waste of resources, I'm allowed to say this on a forum discussing video games. Sorry if that pisses you off. I'm also excited for plenty of other games, but I still think this is a pointless sequel that pretty much nobody (in all seriousness) wanted outside of some random meme.

Sorry publishers make games a ton of people don't want (or panned) all the time. Sony thinks there is a audience for it that is all that matters. I am glad is exists.

Glad u know their financials

I know that doubling down on an underwhelming franchise is a financial risk yes... but that's not really an issue imo. The issue is that it's a waste of time and resources, which could be used to make better franchises. Again sorry this bothers you so much, but I have every right to say this stuff, enjoy that the game was announced ignore my posts.

Publishers certainly do, and I criticize them when they do it other places as well. I do it more so with sony because that's the company I follow the most by far. That's good for you you're glad it exists. I think it's a waste of time and resources. I also know that sony has openly said they get info from neogaf and other forums. I know they have far better forecasts than forums, but it's hard not to think they didn't catch on that the knack neogaf hype train is almost entirely tongue in cheek.

This comparison is weak since souls games have a fully fleshed out combat and weapon system, where knack had a handful of moves. I always thought the knack difficulty was overrated.
That's the lego part of the equation. Very simple moveset, but uncompromising, and all about learning all the enemy attack patterns and evading and getting your licks in through deliberate attacks without taking a scratch.

Lego games you can play on autopilot, and with Knack you have to pay attention or you will get beat down and have to restart from back a ways.

But the term is a bit tongue in cheek, so don't get riled up on me ;p

No they live in a financial sense bubble, and this makes none. As stated above the "good" sales were a result of bundles and being a launch title. There is little to no actual traction for this game.

So, where is your research data that shows this?

You should take a break dude, some people are happy that this is a thing. It doesnt matter how it will play out in the end.

SONY is the one that should be worrying if this is going to be financially profitable, and just a hint, if they are making it, they sure are as hell think it will be.

Gonna have to deal with this every new info thread. So salty over a game announcement

Also, if you look at Sony's IPs, Knack is pretty much the only family friendly "casual" game. It's the perfect parenting game. It might not have the biggest traction, but I can definitely see this generate more people being invested in the playstation ecosystem.

Funny I see it as the reverse, that you're salty that I and plenty of others think this is a bizarre choice from sony. Never understood why people get so worked up when somebody doesn't like something.

The problem here is that you're harping you're opinion as if it has any more merit than anybody else's, it obviously doesn't, but hey, the people that liked it are the problem lol.

So if you were to look at the string of conversation I started by saying this is a crap announcement in what was a homerun day for sony. The facts stand that the game got critically panned, and a huge chunk of people who actually have played it realize that it was a pretty weak game. That really pisses knack fanboys off apparently lol, but these are facts.

Did I push anything as absolute that's not? I pushed that the game was critically panned and had a poor reception amongst those who played it. Lol it seems to me like you're whipping yourself into a frenzy that I'm stating my opinion based on FACTS.

And I agree, but thats not what I said was the problem was it?

Here you are in a thread, bemoaning everything. You have more posts in it than anyone else. So tell me, what does that show us? Who is more invested here?

Day. Fucking. One.

"Stating" something repeatedly doesn't make it more true.
It is true though. The game didn't have legs, it was incredibly front loaded because it was a launch title with slim pickings especially for family games.

If something like the new Ratchet and Clank came out with Knack, do you think Knack would have sold nearly as well as it did?

Critically it was also panned heavily as it seems to be the worst reviewed PS4 exclusive.

That happens to me a lot because I respond to people calling me out in order rather than waiting and editing them in, so it really shouldn't tell you much. I didn't even post until 2 pages ago.

edit- also what do you mean bemoaning everything? What am I bemoaning?

It looks like a lot of assets are being reused from Knack 1. I highly doubt this is getting the AAA treatment. It's probably a B or C team working on this. I doubt they're sinking a large amount of resources into this, and I doubt it'll even be a $60 release.

I agree with this as well, I still think it's a silly release.

My passive aggressive tone.. alright internet switch I see. Have a good one

It really is, you're calling people salty and assuming everyone is mad. Again it seems to me the only ones upset are those who are mad at people questioning why this was made.

Well, thats not what it looks like from over here my friend.

From over here it looks like you can't accept that other people have a different opinion than yours regarding this announcement, no matter how much you deny it. (that you're ok with people liking it)

And about your edit, if you're not doing the bolded part, I apologise.

I don't think he was saying every single person dislikes it or that he can't comprehend why someone likes it. Moreso that the only reason that it sold well was because it was a launch title and was unrivaled in the genre at the time and both critical and user impressions are overwhelmingly negative.

This is the first time where a thread title and knowing what the reaction in the thread will be like has made me burst out laughing. Thank you GAF 😂😂😂

For what it's worth, this generation doesn't have a Sackboy-esque mascot. It's not too surprising that they're going to try it with Knack considering how many copies it "sold".

I'm not bemoaning everything at all though, I'm simply saying this is a bizarre game to be getting a sequel. Like I said I platinumed the game. Highlight any post where I say it's not ok to like it. You and others are completely projecting there, you'r taking my opinion of the game as an attack, when it's simply my opinion. Which again most of what I posted is opinion based on facts, being that the game was universally panned and widely disliked. That does not mean whatsoever that you CANT like the game.

This is actually exactly what I'm doing. I don't see why that's so hard to grasp... actually I'm pretty sure I know why.

Waow, hahahaha. I mean, I liked Knack 1 a lot, but what executive sacrificed his job to greenlight this, cause even I won't get Knack 2 until its on sale. Confirmed bomba already?

Happy its made, but this is odd, as its a guarantee waste of resources when comparing expectations vs reality to the eventual lack of sales Knack 2 will be.

also there have been plenty of posts like this. I think I'm just a target for these types of conversations, because this particular post is far more over the top than mine. (although I agree with the post)

I wish they tried it with a mascot who didn't look like poop :/

Wow, such anger for a title that some people are not even going to play.
Yeah we're just fuming over here.

That being said though wouldn't anger be a valid response since there are plenty of better franchises they could have made a sequel to or even try a new ip instead of making a sequel to Knack? Initially when I read the title I was kinda angry that this was getting a new sequel yet Crash, Jak, Spyro etc. Are still basically dead. R&C 2016 showed ps1/2 type action platformers can still do well critically and commercially and Sony makes a sequel to their worst one.

No it's not a gurentee waste of resources. If the budget is smaller then Knack 1 then it wobt have to sell as much as the first game to be profitably. And from that trailer there are a tone of recycled assets so I think its a pretty good bet that the budget is going to be smaller.
