I know Tom worked on this all day Sunday and uncovered something interesting. Should have a video at some point today.
Oooooooh, wonder what this is?

For the most part i agree with you but you mention "free update" and that's what i find a bit ridiculous to be honest, so do you expect people that got a PRO to get charged for console support updates? It's as if someone bought a better graphics card for their pc and in order to use better settings they would have to payI feel the general stress. I played TLoU on 1080/30 and it looked beautiful. Validated my Pro purchase. And then it was taken away.
Yeah. I am a bit pissed.
And, yeah, you can feel shit about it. But to take out that anger on ND, or to go all emo/mental about it, is just unreasonable. I mean, guys, grow some fucking balls. It is a free update. It is a great game anyway. And, ND did everyone a favour. They are not obliged, nor are they paid, to update a several years old game. But they did.
And what they giveth, they can take away.
And to whine and moan about a bit of extra shimmering, or a frame or two, or any other esoteric shit, is just self indulgent.
Critical analysis, and commercial observations, are all well and good, but to hear some posters go off on one because they lost 0.01% of shadow detail, for an update they got for free, is just laughable.

...and now you say the loss of supersampling is an equivalent of "a bit of extra shimmering and esoteric shit". Like you said, it validated your Pro purchase, and removing it invalidates it for others. I guess you managed to play the game through before the downgrade patch, unlike some of us.Me too.
I have it running on 30 frames locked on a projector. It looks astonishing.
I tried 30 frames unlocked, but it just looked too 'game like' whereas the 4k30 is more filmlike, with beautiful shadows and graphics.
I wasn't expecting much on 1080, but wow.
Why? So just stick with the PS3 version then? Just add the option to turn off or on supersampling in how you want the performance to be. Just don't take shit away.
So The Last Guardian does the same thing.
New Sony politic. Case closed.
I might have passed on buying the Pro.
Hell no!So The Last Guardian does the same thing.

Bring downsampling back. Give me a fucking choice. Do not take away advertised features.
In their defense i can only assume that they are preparing an option in next firmware update to choose 2160p in system settings on a regular 1080p screen so it will be a system wide downsampling and will eliminate one way of a possible fuckup from incompetent developers( Dishonored 2 ). They need to communicate though if that's the case. Right now it's absolutely unacceptable.
Why not? Anything to reduce jaggies is good in my book. Are people going to ask for 8K supersampling when 4K becomes the new standard? Just curious...
Doubt itDid the regular PS4 version have supersampling at 30fps?
Yeah, let's not close this case so easily. It's a dumbfuck decision wherever it's coming from. It unreasonably favours 4K TV owners giving them a choice that is missing from 1080p owners? Why exactly? People should be asking Yoshida about this. I personally still think that ND simply screwed this up, and TLG is the game where they decided not to offer any visual options, but in case that there really is some mandated way of handling this, it was clearly the wrong one.So The Last Guardian does the same thing.

TLOU:R had the same post process AA in both the 30FPS and 60FPS mode on the original PS4. The only difference in visuals were the shadows really. The AA used was OK, but nothing remotely as good as the AA solution they now have in UC4, so supersampling was very welcome.Did it have any AA? Then I can't complain, I don't have a Pro. Still though, should be an option to please both parties.

Man, did you lose an avatar bet or is that thing sincere?

However, those using PS4 Pro with a standard high-definition (1080p) display will also benefit. Both Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered will render at the highest resolution and downscale the super-sampled image to 1080p, resulting in noticeably crisp and smooth graphics.
I honestly don't think Sony realise people are buying the Pro for super-sampling reasons, if they own a 1080p display. Your average man on the street is going to see the games playing smoother and think that is of more benefit than IQ improvement.
Not saying it is right, and there should be more options. Perhaps they just really want people to buy a 4K set?
Yesterday they edited that note here:I've submitted a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK. It's simply not acceptable to remove advertised features like this.
I bought a PS4 as a direct result of the improvements touted in this blog post as TLOU is one of my all time favourites games:
https://blog.eu.playstation.com/201...-4-and-the-last-of-us-remastered-for-ps4-pro/
That quote is unequivocal as to the visual improvements offered by a PS4 Pro.
This is ironic because the whole reason we don't get 60fps games is that studies have shown the average person can't tell framerates and just wants the best looking image,

Yesterday I put this in the first post.
But you found an other article! Nice!
This is a clusterfuck. Removal of features that were advertised/promised retrospectively is shitty. They should be offering a refund to 1080p Pro users.
I just don't understand in what universe that these changes would be acceptable.

Many people bought the game for the first time due to the announcement of the Pro enhancements for 1080p users. It also was a factor for many people in buying the Pro model itself. How when the patch was a free upgrade to begin with? how do you get a refund for something that was free?

I understandcbeing upset, but come on...
Submitting complaints to advertising standards/authorities? Class action lawsuits?
Ya'll are getting ridiculous.
just to be clear i was joking lol

I think he means a refund for the hardware.
If they bought a PS4 Pro for The Last Of Us patch for super sampled 1080P and feel that it's not worth owning anymore they still have time to return the PS4 Pro but honestly it would be silly to do so because most likely this is something that will be fixed.
PS4 Pro hasn't been out over 30 days so anyone who want a refund should be able to get a refund anyway.

Besides the fact that it's pretty lame to say Sony is chill for downgrading one of their Pro headliners after release and despite you making the broad and general assumption that people can still return their Pro no matter where they bought it-
what about people who bought The Last of Us for its Pro advertised features and visuals that have been removed?
