Anyone have Zotac GTX1080 AMP! Edition?
I was getting some sudden, bad frame drops in Overwatch coupled with temps close to 80c. I uninstalled the zotac firestorm program and I'm using MSI afterburner instead, using default power settings and adjusted the fan curve so it ramps up a bit faster.
It seems fine now, no performance problems. Fans are loud though. Still gets to around 75-76 during benchmarks/games. Seems a little warm? For all of the "iced out quiet" marketing on the box this thing is pretty loud and warm, lol

Flip a coin tbh. You're gonna get the same performance from either one more or less. It's mostly down to aesthetics between them. I've generally seen reviews lean towards the Asus for the slightly better build quality, but the Acer is still a super solid choice. You are getting premium monitors regardless.

Okay guys, so my PC is getting a bit, erm, long in the tooth (it's an i7-920, so its pretty goddamn old) so I'm building a new rig.
I want to upgrade to the latest and greatest (I've never had a computer with a SSD!), but I guess I don't follow what's hot these days. What's the deal with this M.2 stuff? Is that something I specifically want over a regular old SATA SSD?

I'm in the same boat as you, finally looking at retiring my old i7-920 early next year, replacing it with a brand new Kaby Lake i7-7700.
There's two different kinds of M.2, and which one your motherboard supports makes all the difference with speed. The older kind is still a SATA interface, so there's no real appreciable speed difference between it and a standard SSD. Newer mobos support NVM Express (NVME), which is a direct link to the PCI Express bus and comes with massive speed boosts. I built a rig for a friend earlier this year, i7-6700 with a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB NVME M.2, and that thing takes longer to get through the BIOS screen (about 3 seconds) than it does to get to the Windows 10 desktop (about 1.5 seconds).
Right now I'm running the dual-fan Asus 1070 (not the Strix). I previously had an EVGA 970 where the issue was also present, unfortunately upgrading didn't solve the issue.
I'll try adjusting the voltage when I get out of work later. I also picked up some new RAM, I'll swap it out and see if that does anything.

As the poster above states, NVMe is what matters. IMO it's worth getting a small one as an OS drive, but regular SATA SSDs are going to be fast enough for most people's bulk storage drives, but NVMe offers more than just throughput, there are lots of features tailored for solid state storage that are built into the spec.
Also you can get regular form factor 2.5" NVMe SSDs, they can use the u.2 connector or the SATA express connector.

RX series uses AMD's latest architecture that has two notable improvements over that of previous architecture which are cooler temperatures and it's less power hungry. The Fury is a power hungry card and a hot card too but it performs below a 1070 and under $300.
Wow I did not know about this. Which version should I go for? I've been using windows 7 for a long time but my friend recommends I upgrade when I finish building my rig to windows 10.
Is it worth it and if it is, which version is best?
So go with the RX? But there seems to so many flavors, are there any brands and makers to stay way from?

I bought the PowerColor RX 480 Red Devil 8GB and have had no issues out of it once I figured out which direction to flip the BIOS switch for overclock mode (toward the IO plate)... it was also the cheapest 8GB at the time.
Also, there is apparently a new driver coming out on the 8th that increases performance across the board an average of 10% for the 480... That means it will now perform better than the 1060 on average with DX12 and equal to it on DX11 for less cost.
Win10 is fine. OTOH, Win 7 is just too old. All the versions are fine for personal use, imho. Also, see if you can still get the free upgrade from here http://www.howtogeek.com/265409/you...-for-free-from-microsofts-accessibility-site/ , worth a try at least.

Whats a really good water cooler for a 980ti?
It's been five years since I built my last PC and today I got all the parts to build one. I got an MSI B150M Bazooka mobo and the thermaltake core v21, I can't seem to find the freaking screws that I'm supposed to use to screw the mobo to the chassis. Am I supposed to buy my own or something?

I have a question hopefully someone can answer? I have a NXZT S530 only about 6 months old, and the NXZT led on the front doesn't always light up. Its not broken as far I can tell but sometimes when I turn on the comp it will light up. It had stayed on while using the comp until recently when I hadn't used it in about a week and a half. Last time it started working again was when I took out some USB devices I wasnt using in the back. I'm wondering if its because I have it in a power surge that is 100% full? Its not completely off, it get VERY dim.

Need help guys. I just got a Kraken X62 today and set it up with these Noctua fans I already had but when I boot up my systems the fans don't spin until I log in to windows and the CAM software launches.
I tried the stock fans that come with the X62 and that spins up as soon as my computer is powered on.
I'm using the Asus Z170 Deluxe motherboard, the kraken x62 is plugged in to the CPU_FAN. I was previously using the Corsair H115i with the exact same setup and fans without any issues.

I have a X61 with those fans, but I have the Asus Z170I Pro gaming and actually had a similar issue. My fans started but the bios wouldn't recognize them at all. After some research it seems that Asus motherboards don't give 3.3v to the CPU_Fan header. Try it in a different header and see if that works. I fixed my issue by utilizing my built in Fan hub and plugging that into the CPU_FAN header. I'm pretty sure the Noctua fans may require more voltage.
I tried adjusting the voltage and memory frequency as you suggested, no luck. Even swapped in some new RAM with no change in the issue. If this is a hardware issue it's either the PSU or the motherboard as I've replaced everything else at this point. If it's a software issue I have no idea what.
Edit: I forgot about the CPU, but I don't think that's likely, right?
I tried plugging it in CHA_FAN4 and had the same issue.

Do you have the fans set to pwm mode in the bios ? It probably doesn't matter though.

I've decided to go hybrid and get and expandable dock for my laptop to get extra juice from my GPU.
Tried both pwm and DC
I removed the usb cable from the kraken and tried again and fans started spinning at boot up. So what does that mean. :s

I don't know what problems you are having but Windows 10 is running great for me. The big update last year started giving me a load of BSOD's but was fixed with a BIOS update to my motherboard. Other than that no issues since Windows 10 launched July last year. The anniversary update didn't cause me any problems either. I definitely wouldn't recommend someone to stick with Windows 7 especially not for gaming.

Some of it has been fixed with the Anniversary Update, but the AU has been a royal pain in the ass alone for me. I actually said fuck it and wiped it off when AU managed to fuck up my system completely.

If you were looking to make your PC more future proof, look into upgrading to 6600K, Z170 board and 3000MHz or 3200 MHz RAM. With a good cooler (Hyper 212 on budget, Noctua if you want the best) you could squeeze a lot more performance from the build. It would help your GTX 1070 and would prevent CPU bottlenecking in the future when you upgrade your GPU.
You would also need to get a better PSU, so figure out if 30% more CPU performance is worth to you.

I have been pretty happy with Windows 10. My only gripe is that the Windows Store is broken for me. I have free digital copies of Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3 from buying them digitally on Xbox. I have been unable to get them to download fully. I am not the only one, check the 1 star reviews for Gears 4. It's more than 5 weeks later and people still can't play them. Thankfully I can still play them on my xbox.

I take it that this PC would only use the 1070 for gaming purposes and use the cpu internal gpu for desktop use? So when i want to watch youtube videos on my TV with it, the GPU will not make extreme noise?
